Reykjavik, Iceland

That is so cool! I've never seen this before, but I know people have done homeswaps on things like craigslist before. Our house is probably too cozy for your family of seven (plus we have two dogs/two cats) but Oregon really is a lovely place and you should homeswap here sometime. :)

Oregon is on our list of interesting places. We´d love to tour as much of the USA as possible. We always enjoy our stays very much. We have a dog too (would be boarded elsewhere when we travel) so dogs are no problem for us ;)

I´m curious to know what you expected?

I expected more than one bathrooms and one less bedroom. More modern than I expected. The bedrooms were smaller than I expected, especially the one with the queen bed.

Is this a typical Icelandic home or more to your taste?

The one with the queen isn´t supposed to be a bedroom, but a den/office. We decided to let our teen son have the biggest room because he has his drum set in his room.
However rooms here are a lot smaller than in the US and walk in closets are hardly to be found. Our home is approx. 2300 Sq feet and is considered pretty big.
But yes, this is a very typical new home. Most of the homes in our neighboorhood resemble it.

When you click the map link, your house is in the ocean off the coast of Africa. ;)

Your home is beautiful. So the home exchange is exactly what it sounds like? Like that movie with Cameron Diaz?

How about Maine? We have a 4 bedroom home in the country with horses. 45 mins south of Portland and 1.30 mins north of Boston, 20 mins from President George Bush's summer home in Kennebunkport. and a wonderful Aunt who lives in our detatched garage apartment LOL

Your home is very nice. We looked into doing this years ago and may just try talking hubby into it again.

Do you worry about damage to your home?

Maine sounds great :thumbsup2

To be honest I don´t worry about damage to my home. I trust that the people I choose to stay in my home will treat it with the same care and respect as I will treat theirs. Accidents can always happen but I am willing to take that chance.

I love Maine. Other then the cold winters, black flies and mud in spring (LOL) Maine has so much to offer.

A few years ago I did a Flat Stanley project for my friends DD from CA. I took Flat Stanley all over our local area and did a scrap book and sent him back to CA. My friend called and said she thinks about 3/4 of her DD class parents all wanted to visit Maine LOL

What is the cost in flying to Iceland from the US?

Freyja....just a question.....what do you do with all your personal items, like clothing, etc? Do you empty drawers and store things? We are about 1.5 hours outside of NYC and checked out the website you listed. It looks very interesting and seems like a great idea. Have you done this before? We are about 1.5 hours out of NYC....thinking of a stay here? Iceland looks amazing!

I will be leaving most of my personal things (such as clothing, etc.) where they are although I will clear some closets for our guests to use. Valuables such as jewlery will be stored elsewhere.
We have never done a home exchange before but know serveral people who have done up to 6 exchanges and always been very happy about them.

As I said, we´re open to any destination. Tempt us!!!

I'll have to check out airfare from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Iceland this summer. We have a 4 bedroom house in the St. Paul suburbs we could exchange with you. :yay: Interesting thought.
