The promo editors did a decent job... they implied someone wanted Charlie's "company" when that was so NOT the case.

I'm not sure a flask would stop a bullet from point blank

It could, particularly if the shot came in at a shallow angle and was from something pathetic like a .32, maybe even from a .38 with low-velocity ammunition. It did break a rib, though, and that's believable.

I can't help it... I like this show, and now that there are multiple story lines going on at once, there are more possibilities for writers to play with.

And I agree with you about the promo. What REALLY happens was a complete surprise.

I liked it, too. Weird adrenalin trick, though. The Google guy is still a mystery to me.

I honestly don't buy that the government of the US would fall into ruins like that after a black out. The military would have more firearms and bullets than any militia could get their hands on. And seriously, are there no BOOKS anywhere that explain to people how society functioned successfully before there was electricity? How to farm and build etc? And the fisherman tells the British chick that all the tall ships were burned for FIREWOOD??? For real? Cause there were no trees to chop and burn?

No way a bullet would be stopped by that little tin flask. Pretty sure mythbusters did an episode on something just like this.

Some stuff is a little hard to swallow. That said, I do enjoy the show.

Oh, is Columbus, OH 5 hours via horse from ANYWHERE in Indiana? They started in Indiana (after the train attack), and ended up in Columbus. The guy Charlie was supposed to 'take care of' was based at Ohio State if I read the sign right.

I'm hoping they replay this episode for those of us without power. Any chance of someone posting a brief synopsis?

I stopped watching for a few weeks, but caught the last episode. I though it was better than previous episodes, even though there were still some things that seemed far fetched. I'm still not sure if I like this show, but I'm starting to see potential of it getting better for me.

There are very little trees in England, and there are other areas in the world were firewood might be scarce like the desert, middle east, other arid areas.

They have done some bulletproof episodes. I don't think they did a flask, but they did a Zippo lighter (busted) and a Sheriff badge (plausible)

They weren't IN England. They were in the US in (I think) New York. The scene was a flashback to when the British chick walked cross country to the east coast and tried to find a ship to take her home to England. the fisherman told her there were no more big ships with masts or sails as they'd all been chopped up for firewood (ridiculous).

I know they were in the US, but she wanted to go to England, so what England would be doing to ships matter. Even if they weren't all destroyed, do you really think the owner of the last remaining mast ships would go somewhere were they were chopping up ships?

I do agree that it was incredibly stupid to chop up ships for wood. If you were low on resources, it be better to take that ship and get resources than to chop it up for resources.

I just thought of something else. How many ships these days are made of wood? Aren't most larger ships made of steel or something?

Like my TV, my computer requires power to run :-) I doubt I'll be able to catch up on all the shows I missed, which is why I was hoping for a synopsis.
First, it's being replayed tonight (Friday).

Here's my synopsis (as I remember it)...
Desperate for medical help for Nora, Miles takes them to an acquaintance of his. Upon arrival there, the Dekker (the acquaintance) acts like he's going to execute Miles, pulls the trigger, and the gun's empty. Dekker is obviously a little off his rocker (and raises poppy for herion).

The doctor Dekker keeps patches up Nora. In exchange for the work, Dekker wants his neighbors (who burned his poppy fields) "taken care of". Miles agrees to do it, but Dekker says Charlie must. Miles, Nora, and Aaron have to stay with Dekker while Charlie goes to assassinate the neighbor.

When Charlie gets to the neighbor's (at OSU), she finds out his daughter ran away to Dekker's, basically became a drug addicted prostitute, and Dekker's people brought her body back after she died. That's what prompted the burning poppy field.

We see some flashbacks of Aaron from shortly after the blackout. It shows how he wasn't able to physically protect his wife and leaves her because he can't.

Aaron convinces Miles to escape to catch Charlie because he (Aaron) is the most expendable (they assume Dekker will kill them all). Miles escapes from Dekker and stops Charlie just before she kills the guy.

While they're gone Dekker forces Nora & Aaron to duel, the winner will be let go. Aaron shots himself in the chest, when Dekker comes over to look at him, Aaron shoots & kills Dekker. It turns out Aaron had a flask and the bullet hit the flask.

In the meantime, Danny is delivered to Monroe & is reunited with his mom. Monroe tells Neville to send some sergeant after Aaron to get the charm/usb stick back. Neville's son protests says the sergeant won't leave any survivors.

Not exactly a synopsis, but I think that's about it. Sorry for the length.

Sorry I didn't clarify. Sometimes I forget there are still people out there who don't know these things. They keep the last 5 episodes up. You can watch it when it's convenient to you.

I absolutely think the US military and government would fall apart. There would be very little, if any, way to communicate from base to base. How would anything get organized? I assuming rotary phones and telegraphs wouldn't work, right?

Also, the guy was saying the militia took apart the ships. It was their way to control the people, not because they needed to the ships for firewood. The firewood was just a byproduct. At least that's what I got out of the conversation.

I'm finally caught up in the show. I like it, even though some of the stuff is a little far fetched.

I do have to admit that while we were without power from Sandy, we felt like we were on the show.

I'm trying to not get to invested in it though, because we really liked Alcatraz and got burned on that one.

I'm glad you're buying it. I, on the other hand, consider it VERY far fetched fiction, ala LOST or FRINGE (shows I also enjoy).

ok, so how about OTHER sources of energy--they don't work either, like gasoline for cars, coal, natural gas, solar energy

It's not the energy sources that are the problem. I'm pretty sure it's the batteries and electronics that run the car that are fried. At least that's what I'm assuming. That's why a steam train works. No battery. No electrical system. But no idea why somebody can't figure out how to make a steam powered car.

Oh, I definitely think that the idea that an international event would occur and stop all powered items from working forever is very far fetched. I just think that IF that happened we'd all be SOL. Especially people in the cities. It's quite chilling how vulnerable we all are really.

They already exist, well in short supply but they do. Stanley Steamer cars, my dad's friend has one.
And I've seen a guy on TV that converted his truck to a wood burning car, instead of gas.

In the opening credits I heard them say people in the city would die, I didn't see it. But after seeing the effects of hurricane Sandy, I believe it now. Food resources would deplete very quickly and people would be SOL fast.
