Reviving expired promo ticket

I tried a few search-word-combinations, but couldn't find a relevant discussion or pinned thread on this particular ticket question... we have the "promo" tickets that expire May 23. Have been planning (for ages!) for an end-of-April trip, but now family drama has entered the mix, and we may have to cancel at the last minute. If we can't use the promo tickets by the May 23rd expiration date, are they just dead/worthless? Or can the value of the promo tickets be applied toward purchasing regular admission on some unspecified date in the future? I'm not concerned about losing the "discount" upon a possible upgrade -- I'm concerned about losing the entire value of the promo tickets.

I've never had to cancel a Disney trip (and fingers are still crossed for this one), so I've never paid that much attention to what happens to unused tickets... something in the back of my (hopeful) mind thinks the tickets might be able to be revived at a future date...

Thank you!! :-)

I'm not sure what the official word is, but it's pretty common for them to apply the purchase price of an unused ticket to the purchase of a new one even after the ticket date has expired.

Thank you! I did some Googling (which seemed to work better, even turning up results within this board that didn't come up on the board's own search function), and that does seem to be the case -- as long as you're "trading up" for a ticket with a greater face value than the one you have, and you haven't used any of the days on your expired ticket, it appears you can apply the expired ticket value to the new ticket purchase. That's a weight off my shoulders/wallet :-)

Sorry to hear about the family drama and having to cancel a trip. We bought our tickets when they first announced this promo thinking that it was just a limited time thing and that you had to buy them that day before they “ran out”. I did a face palm when I realized we could have just bought them right when we were going on the trip. And could have bought maxpass on a day to day basis.

Hopefully your future trip with your applied tickets will be just as if not more magical than before!

Another poster (@mcm574) asked this same question recently. She called Disney Guest Services and was told that the promotional tickets do retain their original monetary value past their expiration date, as long as the tickets remain unused. Just bring them to the ticket booth when you do visit in the future and apply the old tickets toward new ones. You will only pay the difference in price. So don't throw those tickets away! Hope you are able to make your DLR trip soon.

Yes indeed! - I actually emailed (guest.services@disneyland.com), because I like to do things in writing, and they called in response within a week to confirm that I could apply the value of the tickets (totally unused) to a future ticket purchase.
