OK, this is bothering me. When we joined DVC in July 2008, our guide explicitly told us, a number of times over and over, that the point charts for the resorts would never change, NEVER, over the life of our fifty-year contract. That the 283 points that we purchased would buy a week in a two-bedroom at AKV now and it would buy the same week fifty years from now. (Needless to say, if the points could "inflate" over time, so that the same week could cost 566 points in 25 years, the DVC experience would not be a good one.)

So how can they do this, change the point charts like this? Admittedly, it's not a huge deal, because what cost us 283 points before for a week now costs us 281 points. But what's to stop it from going up the next time they do this?

Did everyone else get the same speech from their guide when they bought? Has anyone heard any other information that could enlighten my annoyance at DVC for making this change?

The actual deal is that the total number of points for a resort cannot change. They are just re-arranged. The points don't inflate, they are just changing how they are alloted. So..weeknights are tending to cost a little more while weekends are costing a little less. Someone posted the place in the contract where this is spelled out in all it's legal glory..somewhere in the thread that talked about this when the adjusted points charts were mistakenly uploaded a couple days ago.

I checked BCV and it seems Friday/Saturday stays will be less, while Sun-Thur will cost more. My quick look seems that the most expensive days and seasons drop, while the most value days and seasons increase. Some significant changes are premier weeknights increase from 50 to 60 pts/night, while premier weekends decrease from 106 to 85 points per night.

Actually my guide told us the same thing. He said that what costs me 101 points for a specific room for a week will always cost me 101 points for that specific room for a week. He said the only way that will EVER change is for holiday fluctuation. That is SPECIFICALLY what I was told.

I'm pretty sure he knew what he was saying too because he has worked for Disney for many many years. He's also owned a DVC for a long time.

Now what costs 101 points for that specific room in 2009 could cost 105 in 2010.

I'm ok with the new chart, but I was lied to flat out. I know what I was told, I wasn't overwhelmed with information during our presentation. I specifically asked the question above and that was his answer.

What would have cost us for 5 nights in a 2 BD (sun--thurs) just increased by 20 points total. That's a lot.

Do people really use their points on the weekend? I never even considered it, but now the weekends are much more reasonable.

To answer your question - not enough.

Hence the reallocation.
And see it's making you think about it now....which was the goal, not to sell more points/add-ons/etc....but they were obligated to try to balance out demand.

These point value changes for 2010 will add 26 points to the 11 day vacation I took last August in a 2 bedroom at OKW. I bought my points based upon the current values. Now I will have to cut 1 day off my stay and have several points left over but not enough for another night.

My membership dues go up each year and now my vacation is cut short due to these new point values.

Just emailed membership services to let them know I am not happy. Maybe everyone who feels likewise should flood them with emails / letters.

I asked and was told the same thing I can't believe I got screwed by the mouse....I should have looked over everything alot better, but I was to worried about getting back to DHS...And the worst mistake of all I trusted them on their word...

The sales promo dvd that they send out for dvc specifically states that the points will stay the same. This a little more than a salesman giving his word. This is evidence to a promotional item from dvc. Personally, it costs about 2-4 points less for the vacations my family takes. I just like to see people keep their word. Its an ethical thing for me.

I think it is pretty comical how upset people get over trivial stuff, so your trip costs 3 more points, thats they hav banking and borrowing. In over 10 years of ownership I have never booked exactly the points I had for a given year.

I started out being a strict Sun - Thurs in Adventure Season to "maximize" points for the first 4-5 yeras of ownrship but as some of you will find out circumstances change, Now we usually book the full week of 7 nights.

Ignorance is no excuse and I do not care what people think their guide told them this has been a possibilty all along, and if you did not know or realize it then shame on you.

In general, I agree with you with the exception of those who added on at BLT before the minimum add-on went up to 100 points. My wife and I bought 125 points, enough to go every other year for a 2-BR MK view during our anniversary week (5 nights * 50 points per night = 250). Now, prior to the resort opening, it's been upped to 53 points per night. That's an additional 15 points we need every other year, and the minimum add-on I can make is for 100 points.

So maybe I should have an anticipated that DVC would have changed their allocation tables, even though it is something they had never done for a resort that was not yet open and only did once really before. But was anyone also supposed to guess that they would change their add-on philosophy too?

In my opinion, DVC should offer the option for owners to purchase the necessary amount of points to compensate for the differences. And they should drop the minimum add-on too. Heck, offer us the right to purchase any number of points we need to close the differences if we pay closing costs.

ITA with that! I just bought into BLT, and before the resort is even opened, I am finding that my points are no longer enough.

3 points? Ours will cost an extra 45 for the same vacation. Maybe people with big contracts won't find that hard to swallow but the average member can't manage it. If I were a new BLT member, I'd be furious. As it is, we will just travel less.

I feel everyones pain and undertand your disappointment, but this will overall make the system better. As evidenced by the number of complaints, most people are staying Sun-Thur. The system is based on level demand and occupancy and it's not happening. This means that there are some members out there that are unable to use their points because they can't get rooms when they want. It's funny that there was always a lot of complaining about how high the weekend points were, well now that they have dropped no one is happy.

I realize now what a compulsive person I was before we purchased. We thought about the possibility on a trip but did not purchase for another 9 months. Over that period I read all I could about DVC. I lurked on this board and checked out every other DVC website. Over this time I compiled so much information that I don't remember our guide telling us one thing I didn't already know. Apparently, unlike a lot of people, my guide, at the Doorway to Dreams store, told us about the possibility of the reallocation, something I already knew from my research. After out purchase I read the entire POS (prior to the 10 day cancellation time) and actual did learn a few new things about DVC and it's operation.

I would strongly encourage all prospective buyer to do the research and read the POS and make sure you fully undertand what you are buying prior to making such an investment.
