Reviews You can't use! Review #15, The Angry Rude Planet!

Love the pics from T-rex, makes me want to go even more! Not sure it will fit into our schedule this trip but hopefully the next one.

Love your reviews, always :flower3:

I'll make it there sometime, maybe, if I ever have a grandchild (doubtful). In the meantime, lunch today was at Ale House :confused3

Amazingly though, I think I have eaten at all the places you reviewed so far, believe it or not! Unlike some attractions :sad2:

I LOVE the rerun reviews. Don't stop posting them!

Trex looks amazing...and loud! I took my daughter and aunt to Rainforest a month ago. My aunt had never been before and the look on her face when the storm started and the animals start squawking was priceless. Definitely not the place for any intimate conservation.

Popped into Trex to use the little cavegirl's room when I was there and thought the ice room was awesome. Wish I had known about the storm show, sounds like I would have enjoyed it, especially after the beers at Raglan Rd that prompted the pit stop in the first place. Was that TMI?

Okay. Okay! I wandered over here just to stop the incessant whining on your TR. "Please, won't somebody visit my dining review?... Anybody??"

Just kidding.

I just spent some time catching up and thoroughly enjoyed reading the reviews. Some I'd seen, many I hadn't. Looking forward to more!

Boy, ok, thanks for bailing me out here, much appreciated,,,, just a couple notes;

Your awesome review has caused me to make reservations for our June trip at T-rex. My 20 year old DS asked me if there were any characters at the restaurant. I said, "No, we are bringing the characters." No one ever laughs at that joke anymore...

Inever heard that before, I like it and I know you have a 16 year old Goofy.

Excellent reveiw as always!

My wife HATES to eat at San Angel Inn. Way too dark, the menu is confusing as hell and the food comes out like it was already eaten.

Way back when we were first married I would take her here each trip. I would request a table by the river and think I was Captain Romance. Little did I know that she was thinking that I was more like Captain Dumb @#$!!

Jay

Thanks Jay,,, we haven't eaten there since, every once in a while I'll walk over there during the day and marvel at how dark it still is in there.

It is loud in there, but that's why you're there in the first place, you don't go there for the food, but the food isn't bad either though.

Popped into Trex to use the little cavegirl's room when I was there and thought the ice room was awesome. Wish I had known about the storm show, sounds like I would have enjoyed it, especially after the beers at Raglan Rd that prompted the pit stop in the first place. Was that TMI?

Tell me you were't dancing on the table too at Raglan? Now there is a place we haven't eaten at yet.

Okay. Okay! I wandered over here just to stop the incessant whining on your TR.

Incessant whining? This is coming from a guy who is going to be counting on me when he finally does his own report?
uh huh,,,, just kidding

I just spent some time catching up and thoroughly enjoyed reading the reviews. Some I'd seen, many I hadn't. Looking forward to more!

nope, only got a couple more,,, then, hopefully,,, they will become Reviews you CAN use with new and current reviews,,,, all I need to do now is get back there.

By the way,,,, the review of one of my most bizzare meals is coming up, The Rose and Crown,,,, this one you don't want to miss.

Like I said,,, this was a strange meal,,, and sorry, I guess I really focused mainly on myself that night.
No, I wasn't trying or planning on doing a dining review, it was really a Twilight Zone review, that is ending up here now because it concerned a Disney table service restaurant, and food.

December, 2007, Rose and Crown

After Soarin' (that appostrophe is trademarked), we head on back to England, time to meet Colleen and Adrian again, and also maybe "eat" something.

They were already there when we got there, already checked in and somehow, we were actually 'taken' to the table to join Colleen and Adrian, soon we were seated.

Adrian is Colleen's approximately 20 year old son.
I am really bad with guessing ages, so I will probably be beat up on this one,,, but that's my best guess.

The whole idea of eating here is that we should be done just about the time that Illuminations starts, and they have a separate viewing area behind the restaurant, down by the lagoon. I have never been there, but it was worth a try. We have never watched Illuminatios from here either,,
and we thought with the cool Holiday Tag added on to the show that might make this an "extra special " spot to see that from, as well.

Diane was happy because now we are "knocking off" another restaurant in World showcase that we have never eaten at before. Now, the only countries that we haven't had a sit-down dinner in are China, Norway, and of course, America. As far as Norway goes, I don't see me EVER eating at Akershus.
I've seen the menu, and I don't even want to waste a "free dining' meal on it. It's all sushi and dead fish and raw nightcrawlers and even the character meal there is just for anorexic Princesses so that fits as well.

You won't see Mrs. Potts and Ursula hanging around there.

Let me also say, there is a reason we haven't eaten HERE, the Rose and Crown, yet either.
I've looked at this menu too. Many times. I'm sorry, I don't even like the SOUND of an entree called a "meat pie".
Or a "shepherd's pie".

And I like chicken pot pies.
But if Swanson had a thing sitting in the freezer at your local grocery store that just said "meat pie", uh uh, I'll pass, thank you very much.

So I'm just looking for something "safe" on the menu tonight. I've been in a lot of pain today, and I have a lot of vikes invested in me, and not going to lose them on a "cottage" pie.

For the record, the Chicago Cubs have a Felix Pie, but he was just sent back down to the minors, as well he should be.

Ok, here we go again, another pathetic Nebo restaurant review, that will keep him from any possible future Disney employment!
I have no idea what Colleen and Adrian had that night, never thought of putting that in my notes. Hmm, know what? Now that you mention it, I didn't take any notes that night anyway.

I asked Smidgy, she said she had "bangers and mash". Said it was ok.

But, being the self-centered, egocentric, person that I am, I remember EVERYTHING about what I ordered! Believe me, it made a "stuck in the throat" vicodin sound good again.

And Adrian didn't help!

We ordered a beer for me and Diane, Guiness, I believe. I don't know, could have been Billy Beer.

I think Tigger got a "glow thing". I remember my eyes just staring at the thing.

When it came to my turn to order, I still didn't know what to get. However, they have on the menu, "Fish and Chips".

Hmm, know what? That sounds safe right now. I've had the fish and chips form the counter service outside, and it tasted like what you get at Columbia Harbour House, or any of the counter service eateries. "Yeah, I'll have the fish and chips, thank you."

Boy, when I'm dumb, I'm dumb to the third power.

As we are sitting there haveing our drinks, a waitress walks by carrying a platter, and she passes close to Adrian.

He gives out a supressed, "EWWW", and we all turn to him.

"What, what did you see?" Colleen asked.

"Nothing, t'weren't nothing at all," he replied.

Now it's my turn.
"Oh, no no no no no."
"You have a civic responsibility to inform all those that may be upchucking in the very near future, and may I remind you that it will happen at your very own table, so please, tell us what you saw." and,
"May I remind you that you are under oath?"

"Ok," he said, "It was just this huge fish that still had it's head attached to it, that's all."

"EWWWW!"
That was from me.

There was only one fish item on the menu.
And THAT IS WHAT I ORDERED!

Diane grabbed the waitress before I could. "If you have any concerns about the cleanliness and sterility of the restaurant, you will make certain that when my husband receives his fish it no longer has a head attached to the main body."

I'm thinking, "yeah, yeah", but what comes out of me is only "I don't eat things that are looking at me."

Now, I still, to this day don't know if Adrian was pulling my leg or not, doesn't really matter at this time, and, no, we never actually asked the waitress if it did or not. We just made sure,,,,,,,NOT!

She came back with our plates, set mine down last.

And ran!

I just stared at it.

For a long time.

Wasn't really sure what I was looking at.

The rest of my dinner companions were staring at it also.
I wasn't exactly sure what it was.

It ,,,,,, notice that I keep referring to my dinner as "IT"? It was served on an oval platter, and hung over both ends of the platter, lengthwise. At first I thought it might be a sturgeon, but it seemed too long and skinny, kind of like an eel.

They all just shook there heads and went about their own meals leaving me to deal with this on my own.

You see, it wasn't just the size and shape of it that scared us,,, it was because it also had an appendage sticking out the side of it, well, top of it looking at the plate. This gave teh fish the appearance of having a bad foot.

"Ive never eaten something extinct before."
They are all ignoring me now, to make sure they don't glance back at my plate by accident. Or because it's hard
to turn away and not look at a car wreck.

Then, to make matters worse, as I was staring at it, a stupid song popped into my head,,,

"When the moon's in your eye, like a big pizza pie,,,,,"

You're going to hate me for this........

"That's a moray."

You know,,, Disney has been going a lot more "green", lately. Giving us more "healthy" options, more environmentally healthy food choices. And I'm all for trying to eat more "green".

I JUST DON'T WANT TO EAT SOYLENT GREEN!

But I still had to eat it.

I took a couple of bites, LITTLE ONES, Diane is looking at me very intently, she knows how I am, and THIS doesnt even look good to her!

Everybody moved away from me, to the far side of the booth.

I took another bite, put my fork down, and said;

"Hmm, hmm, different. Just need one thing here."

Diane perked up. "What, salt? Tartar sauce?"

"Nope."

"ANTIDOTE!"

(Let us pause now in the review and briefly return to present time. When I first posted this a few years ago, one of the readers knew exactly what I was talking about and posted a picture of the Ichthyosaurus I ordered that they had also gotten once.
This picture is almost exactly like what I have now got sitting on my plate,,,,, but I think mine had a bigger foot.)

I just picked at the thing. I did eat all my chips though. I was still a bit hungry when it dawned on us. "Hey, we never got any bread!."
Well, since the waitress served me that eel, she knew better then to come back around. Finally, someone flagged her down and asked what happened to our bread.

"Yeah, I realized I forgot to get it for you, but I figured that it was too late to bring it out now."

Great! And now she really is correct, time to get out for the fireworks.

Going out the back door, we station ourselves on a patio overlooking the lagoon. It really turned out to be a great spot, sometimes a new angle can make it seem like a whole different show. Plus, they still had the extended version in the schedule.

Would I go back there again? I don't know, I suppose now that I know, but I'm in no rush.
It is nice to have the viewing area right after dinner though.

So, food, not so much, view for Illuminations, good. Got it!:thumbsup2

:lmao:

Oh boy, do I love the R&C review!!! :rotfl2:

Nebo, I was thinking R&C or Ohana was where we could meet you guys in August. What a delight it would be to hysterically laugh/cry my way through a meal with you. ;)

Or wait.....how about Akershus? You know I think it's pronounced Ock-ur-shush. Anything that sounds so....what word am I looking for? Oh yes, innocent, can't be bad. Yum, yum, raw fish and night crawlers sound so appetizing!

Great review Nebo!! :thumbsup2

We ate at Akershushushush our first "as a family" visit, and though some will argue, it is our consensus that you're not missing anything by not going there

Even if it were made of REAL shepherd's?

I asked Smidgy, she said she had "bangers and mash". Said it was ok.

Have you seen "Get him to the Greek"? I chuckle every time I hear someone say "bangers and mash" now

I think Tigger got a "glow thing". I remember my eyes just staring at the thing.

Those things are memorizing, great men have wasted away gazing into them

:lmao: One of my favorite "episodes"

A yes. I remember the trip where you were served deep fried Mushu. A classic. :)

Did I ever tell you that the first time we took the girls (DD4 & DD8 at the time) we did both princess breakfasts? Including Akershus? Apart from the fact that the cost to attend these breakfasts was funded by their college savings ("Hey, you wanna see princesses? Then you can't get an education. Pick one."), it was pretty good. Here's the lineup...
Fresh Seasonal Fruit
Bacon
Sausage
Scrambled Eggs
Potato Casserole
Biscuits
Cinnamon Rolls

See? Not bad. Will never do it again for that price, though.

So, food, not so much, view for Illuminations, good. Got it!:thumbsup2

I'm not raving about the fireworks viewing there either, I seem to recall some trees being in the way, I still prefer it from Showcase Plaza,, I like looking at all the countries during the show,,,, well, except for Morocco, which doesn't play. Wonder why that is?

:lmao:

Excellent choices for a meeting Buzz,,, it will give me a chance to finally use my stunt double.

That's a Moray.

Best. Line. Ever.

Jill in CO

I still have not found out to this day why my fish came with a handle.

:lmao: One of my favorite "episodes"

I have to admit, when these things happen tat the time, no, I'm not exactly happy with this, what's going on,,,, but I have to admit that it sure makes writing trip reports a heck of a lot more fun when the time comes to do it. The old, "We'll look back later and laugh" sydrome.

Ok, your menu looks just like Denny's. That seems safe einough, but like you said,,, sure don't want to spend that kind of money for Denny's.

Ok, again, I posted under Smidgy.

Doesn't matter though, she believes every exact thing I write about anyway, every-thing, heh heh.

According to all the stories I have ever heard (including this article), it's because the Morocco pavillion contains a "prayer tower, at the entrance of the pavilion, ...a detailed replica of the Koutoubia Minaret that stands in Marrakesh". That gives it great religious significance to the people of Morocco, so it is not spotlighted.

However, someone on these boards (I think it was Robo) has pointed out that Norway doesn't light up either, and that perhaps it might be tied to the fact that Norway and Morocco are the only two pavillions that were not present at the opening of the park and were added later. He surmises that maybe the ability to "light up" wasn't built into them as a cost-cutting measure.

Ahem, there better not be any Nebo stunt doubling in August, unless it is in the tradition of Lou Ferrigno and I get to dine with "The Incredible Hulk". ;)

Okay, we can do something else. It might not be a good idea for me to laugh/cry my way through a meal with you. I could experience Nebo luck and choke on my food or something. I've been trying to pull the trigger and finally book Tony's, but most of the reviews seem pretty bad so I'm a little hesitant. The other restaurant I have been thinking about is Maya Grill at Coronado Springs. Have you and Smidgy been there?

You know, we have never done a character buffet with the kids. There are two very good reasons for this. The first is that neither of the kids seem all that interested in meeting the characters outside of the park. If the kids were interested in going to a character meal, we would go, but so far there has been no interest at all. The second is that the kids eat virtually nothing for breakfast. I can generally get them to eat a little something after we have ridden some rides, but the character meals are not cheap. Breakfast is good and cheap for my crowd.

Smidgy, excellent thought of Nebo at Akershus with your granddaughter! :thumbsup2

Boy, will that be a good review! I'm in no hurry, I can wait for it! ;)

I've been trying to pull the trigger and finally book Tony's, but most of the reviews seem pretty bad so I'm a little hesitant.

I can't be much help, because our experiences at Tony's are 50/50. Our first meal there was one of the best we've had at Disney! The second, one of the worst. And we ordered the same thing both times :confused3

We tried Rose and Crown a few years ago and it was so so. I enjoyed my meal (some kind of steak and shrimp), DD had the bangors and mash and I don't think she took more than 2 bites! If I had gotten that big old hunk of fish with the appendage sticking up I think I would have walked out :scared1: Go to youtube and seach sushie moving, your fish was almost just as bad :lmao:

I have only read your review of Saana so far and I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard!!!!! I was trying to read it to my husband but was laughing so hard I couldn't even speak!!!! I am going back now to read the rest and catch up but am thinking maybe I should ration it out and not read it all at once!!!! Thank you so, so much!!!! :rotfl2:
