Cast: Me(30) and DH(31). DH has a chronic pain condition and uses a power wheelchair so I have included information about accessibility for those that are interested in such things. He can walk a few feet and transfer to a regular chair. However, he prefers to stay in his PC and this requires a table that he can drive straight into his "seat" because it is hard to maneuver the chair around in between crowded tables. We always explain this when entering a restaurant and I always state that we are willing to wait longer for a suitable table. We stayed on the concierge floor at AKL, so we did not eat breakfast out and supplemented meals with snacks from the lounge.
Thursday (MK day): We had lunch at Liberty Tavern. Again, we had no problem getting an accessible table once I explained what we needed to the hostess. We shared a crab cake appetizer. The crab cake was a good size and had good flavor. It had a little too much filler and not enough crab meat for me, but it was still tasty. I had a salad and the Cape Cod pasta. The salad was fresh and the buttermilk dressing was flavorful. DH had a cheeseburger which he told me was very good. We were stuffed, so no dessert here. Service: A little slow given that the restaurant was not very busy, but it was adequate. Accessibility: Had to go outside and around to the side of the building to get to the ramp which was ok because it was sunny out. It would not have been pleasant if it had been raining.
DH was tired, so we returned to the room to rest. He was not up to dinner out, so I went to Mara to get soup and a salad to go. I ordered, got my number and sat down. It was not very crowded when I entered but got very busy as I waited for my food. After 15 minutes, I asked about it and the young woman went to check, came back out and told me it would be right out. After another 10 minutes, I stopped her again, and she went back to check on it. By the time she came back I had been there for half an hour. She asked for my receipt. I watched her take it to the back, talk to one of the cooks, who quickly prepared my salad, put soup into a bowl and send it out to me all in less than 5 minutes. It appears that my ticket must have been lost. I'm just not sure why she told me it was on its way out the first time, when it clearly was not being prepared. The potato and bacon soup and the Caesar salad were both very good. This was my only trip to Mara and I seemed to be the only person who had a problem getting their food, so I will give it another try. Accidents happen.
Friday: We spent the morning at the DVC office purchasing our membership. After that we were off to MGM. We had lunch at the Sci-Fi Drive-in. The food was very good. DH had the ribs and I had the cheeseburger. The ribs were very meaty and the BBQ sauce had a good flavor. My cheeseburger was good, but definitely big enough to share (unless you have a huge appetite). We shared a chocolate milkshake. I know this place gets mixed reviews, but we really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Due to DH's PC, we could not sit in a "car" but the view was just as good from the tables in the back. Service: Good service, attentive waitress and we never had to flag her down for anything. Our drinks were full and DH had plenty of napkins for using while he ate his ribs. Accessibility: We had no problems.
For dinner we returned to Jiko. We had planned for room service, but our meal earlier in the week was so good that we wanted to return. We did not have a priorty seating and it was Valentine's Day. We still only had to wait 20 minutes. DH chose to park his chair and walk to the table again since it was crowded. We skipped the appetizer this time but we did share another salad. This time I had the filet with mac and cheese and DH had the curried shrimp. We almost tried the monkfish, which sounded heavenly, but we really wanted the filet and shrimp again. For dessert we shared the chocolate symphony. I cannot even describe how good this was. Service: Again, the service was outstanding.
