It's been several years since we dined at AP so I was looking forward to this meal. I like the look and feel of the Wilderness Lodge itself, and we usually stop in the Territory Lounge for a pre-meal libation. This visit we were fortunate enough to be dining with another couple--Pete and Lee Lebowitz from Ft. Meyers Fla. then in Orlando to attend a wedding. They are friends of ours whom we met from the International Sinatra Society.
Our PS were for 6:30 on a Tuesday evening and after the obligatory stop at the Territory Lounge we were seated promptly. For appetizers ,we had the Braised Penn Grove Mussels with fennel, Lemon and Grilled Sourdough, along with the Crispy Venison Spring Rolls with Hot Sweet and Sour sauce. Both were excellent.
Entree selection was fairly easy--3 of us ordered the Cedar Plank Roasted Cypress Island Salmon (topped with Maple/Whiskey glaze) while Mrs. U ordered the Roasted Free Range Chicken Breast w/Smoky Bacon Two-Potato hash. The Salmon was good as always, and is "de-planked" (un-planked? dis-planked?) tableside before it is served. This time I couldn't really taste that maple/whiskey like I remember, and I wish they might crank up the glaze a little. The fish was served with Celery Root Smash and Swiss chard--but ordinary mashed potatoes are cheerfully substituted on request.
Mrs U was very pleased with her chicken breast--had a rich, golden color and a delightful taste.
Mrs. U and I split the dessert of that excelent AP Cobbler, served with seasonal berries and vanilla ice cream.
For drinks, the ladies had wine (Mrs. U went with the menu suggested pairings) while the fellows had beer. Fortunately, AP has Michelob Honey Lager on draft, so no way I could pass that up!! They used to carry an excellent micro-brew that was made just for that restaurant, but it's been gone a # of years now.

Service was excellent that evening. Our server was very attentive--in fact, we had arrived a bit earlier than our friends and were seated early. Our server made a point of asking their names and when they arrived, she was at the poduium to meet them and escorted them to the table. A nice touch, and appreciated.
The restaurant was fairly crowded that evening, but not full. Dress, as usual, varied widely, from theme-park casual thru dressier slacks and collared shirts.
All in all a fine meal and AP remains one of my top 10 favorite restaurant at WDW.

Many thanks for the restaurant review!!

That cobbler is one of my husband and DS1's very favorite desserts at WDW. The chicken sounds very good. Last time we dined there my husband was a little disappointed in his salmon. Would you order it again?

Thanks for the review- I am one of your "followers"!
From the venison spring rolls to the dessert, you had the same meal I had a few months ago along with great service (Pok is a wonderful server, we adore her).

Always enjoy your reviews, Uncleromulus!
Artist Point is one restaurant my husband and I keep wanting to try, yet haven't got there yet. I'm glad to hear it gets a favorable grade from you.

Just ate at AP a few nights ago. I gave it my " best meal on property" donation. I am a fussy eater with very high standards. I had the buffalo with glazed onions and mash roots. for dessert I had the chocolate bread pudding, to die for! however I still claim that the best dessert on property is liquid chocolate cake at Le Chief de France. My huge thumbs up to AP.

P.S. do you know where the three hidden mickeys are?

Thanks for a wonderful review on one of my " top 10" as well. I'm glad you enjoyed another great meal at AP.

Thanks Uncleromulus!

I just made our PS ressies for AP for July 4th, for DH, my mom and me.... can't wait. I may even print out your posting to send my Mom, who is not a computer user.

We have only had dessert there, and split the berry cobbler. We loved it, too.

To echo above posters, it is always a pleasure to read your dining reviews.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the compliments!!
Still ahead are Citrico's, Narcoosee's, Flying Fish, and V&A.

firen'ice: never really attempted to find them. Thought they did locate them once on that show Walt Disney World Inside/ Out-used to be on the Disney Channel.

BCV23:
Probably not. Next time I'd try the beef tenderloin or the Pan-seared Pork Chop.

Many thanks--we are planning to try AP for the first time in November.

Thanks for the review, Uncleromulus!

After having the cedar-plank salmon at AP two years ago, I found the recipe, and made it myself, and I was very generous with the maple-whisky glaze! ;) Now, I just have go get a cedar plank - I cooked mine on the grill, without one. I did recently see cedar planks for sale at an upscale cooking store, but the 6X12 plank was $30! I didn't buy it, not at that price! If anyone has any info on buying a small cedar plank, reasonably priced, that is safe for cooking (not treated with chemicals like building cedar), I would love any info!

Thanks for the great review! I was wondering if you could tell me a little about the portion size?
Thanks:Pinkbounc

My husband and I have been to Artist Pointe a number of times. About two years ago, I believe it was in either June or July we had the Copper River Salmon. They told us they only have this when it is in season. This had to be one of the best salmon I ever had. We were there this past January and my son and I had the Salmon and it was good but not as good as the Copper River Salmon. My son had the Venison Rolls and my husband and I had the Mushroom Soup (which was excellent) for an appetizer. Would like to know if anyone else knows anything about the Copper River Salmon. I think they said it came from Washington State.

Uncleromulus-

Although I don't love V&A's as you do, I have to say that you are the man!! I love reading your detailed reviews and that you are an adventurous gourmand makes it all the better. Keep up the great work and consider reporting for your local paper. My neighbor is a political columnist for the New York Times and he and his wife have written up vacation destinations(restaurants incl.) for The Times and had the holiday comped. Just an idea. Thanks for the great review, love all the details that you put in your reviews. One of my favorite foods is Salmon, so hope to have it at AP one of these visits. can't wait to read the rest of your reviews.

Uncleromulus - I have to agree w/the previous posters; I really appreciate the detail of your reviews. It gives my family and I a great "snapshot" of places that have been on our "wish list". Thanks.

Again-thanks everyone!!

We had that Copper River Salmon on one of our previous trips to AP. To be honest, I don't order Salmon often enough to notice any special difference between it and what's ordinarily offered. But there must be something, as I've seen Copper River Salmon mentioned as a special "event" over at Fulton's too.
Tiknerkel:
Portions are quite manageable. Not large, not small. I should add that in previous years, portions at the WDW restaurants we frequent were often quite large. Recently, I've noticed they've dwindled a bit. But still large enough for all but the most hardy eater, but not overwhelming as to intimidate those with smaller appetites. I usually manage to finish all my food, and nowadays, so does Mrs, U.

They are friends of ours whom we met from the International Sinatra Society.

The International Sinatra Society! How cool is THAT!

I always enjoy reading your dining reviews. Artists Point is on my list now.

Has anyone ordered the trio? We will be there in Nov and I can't have the salmon. I can't stand to eat it ever since I was pregnant five years ago .
