Review of Cosmic Ray's

As Mike and I weren’t very hungry from our large, late lunch at the Polynesian, we scouted around for a counter service restaurant for a small dinner at the Magic Kingdom. We finally decided on Cosmic Ray’s, because of their corn dog kids meal and the great toppings bar. The toppings bar is always one of the deciding factors when Mike and I are deciding where to eat at the Magic Kingdom.

We walked around Cosmic Ray’s, and there are three counters with different types of food. The first has chicken meals, the middle has hot dogs and hamburgers, and the last has soups, salads, and kosher meals. Along with the corn dog kid’s meal, we decided to share a hot dog as we had really enjoyed them here last time. Starting to come down with a bad cold, it was a bad idea to have greasy fast food, but I wasn’t thinking right at the moment. I took a seat near the toppings bar, and Mike ordered our food, with carrots on the side for the kid’s meal, and fries with the hot dog meal.

Service appeared to be quick from where I was sitting, and Mike came back with our food. The kid’s meal includes only five small corn dog nuggets, but these were very good for corn dog nuggets. They’re one of my favorite fast foods, but can be hard to find. The adult hot dog is very large and tasty – we like them as much as the hot dogs at Casey’s. We used the toppings bar to make cheese fries out of the French fries, and unfortunately that made them soggy, with the mushrooms and sautéed onions. In the past, though, they were hot and crispy, but this time it was our own fault. The carrots were the standard baggie of carrots available at the Magic Kingdom, and we’re always happy to see healthier choices at Disney.

The toppings bar included sautéed onions, diced onions, relish, sautéed mushrooms, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, barbecue sauce, honey mustard dressing, hot cheese sauce, plasticware, sweeteners, and coffee creamer. All of the vegetables looked fresh, and were replaced when needed. Toppings bars at the Magic Kingdom always make our meals more substantial, and we’re glad for the opportunities to have more vegetables, especially interesting ones like sautéed onions and mushrooms.

There is always plenty of seating at Cosmic Ray’s, whether you want to sit on the balcony with a view of the castle, on the interior, or in a room with an animatronic character named Sonny, who plays music and sings all day. We’ve never had a problem finding a quieter seat.

Cosmic Ray’s is one of the counter service restaurants with more variety than most, and can be a good place for groups or families. There are plenty of healthy choices to be had here, including soups, salads, veggie burgers, and rotisserie chickens (I just unfortunately chose not to select one of those this time, even though I was sick). The Caesar salads looked very good, and we’ll return the next time we want a quick meal that’s not just burgers and fries.

Great review! I always love stopping in Cosmic Ray's for a quick lunch b/c there truly are many options--and it's cool because the voice of Sonny is a family friend! It's funny seeing him in the form of a martian, LOL. Thanks for the detailed information!

Cosmic Rays was nice enough to give us extra glasses of ice without charging me for them. I appreciated that.

The restrooms had a waiting line. Definitely one of the crowdest restrooms in MK.

I have no qualms about their food, but it would be nice to dine in a more quieter atomosphere. My 2 year old needed the peace and quiet too.

Thanks for the review. You are right on about the menu. Lots of choices and a good toppings bar to boot.

Thank you for the review. I think I will try it in July... Sounds good!::MickeyMo

Another great review - I'm sorry you were coming down with a cold though. :(

We usually eat counter service on our MK days and have had some good counter service meals, but we haven't tried Cosmic Ray's yet. I'm adding it to the list of possible places to eat next month! :D

Thanks for another great review. I agree about the hot dogs there. Mmmmmm! I hope you feel better soon.

In all my visits to MK, I don't remember ever eating in CR's except maybe to get FFs one time. My DD and I decided to stop in one night in March. She got the vegetable soup and I got the Italian stacked sandwich and both were great! We loved it!! Later in the trip we stopped in with DH at lunchtime. It was very packed. I knew about the line set ups, but unfortunately a man in line next to us didn't understand that he couldn't get a hamburger from our line and was quite upset after standing there for 20 minutes. That's the one downfall. DD ordered the soup again and DH and I shared the sandwich and a chicken caesar salad. Again everything was wonderful and plenty of food!! DH said we will definitely be eating here again our next trip!!
