As Mike and I werent very hungry from our large, late lunch at the Polynesian, we scouted around for a counter service restaurant for a small dinner at the Magic Kingdom. We finally decided on Cosmic Rays, because of their corn dog kids meal and the great toppings bar. The toppings bar is always one of the deciding factors when Mike and I are deciding where to eat at the Magic Kingdom.
We walked around Cosmic Rays, and there are three counters with different types of food. The first has chicken meals, the middle has hot dogs and hamburgers, and the last has soups, salads, and kosher meals. Along with the corn dog kids meal, we decided to share a hot dog as we had really enjoyed them here last time. Starting to come down with a bad cold, it was a bad idea to have greasy fast food, but I wasnt thinking right at the moment. I took a seat near the toppings bar, and Mike ordered our food, with carrots on the side for the kids meal, and fries with the hot dog meal.
Service appeared to be quick from where I was sitting, and Mike came back with our food. The kids meal includes only five small corn dog nuggets, but these were very good for corn dog nuggets. Theyre one of my favorite fast foods, but can be hard to find. The adult hot dog is very large and tasty we like them as much as the hot dogs at Caseys. We used the toppings bar to make cheese fries out of the French fries, and unfortunately that made them soggy, with the mushrooms and sautéed onions. In the past, though, they were hot and crispy, but this time it was our own fault. The carrots were the standard baggie of carrots available at the Magic Kingdom, and were always happy to see healthier choices at Disney.
The toppings bar included sautéed onions, diced onions, relish, sautéed mushrooms, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, barbecue sauce, honey mustard dressing, hot cheese sauce, plasticware, sweeteners, and coffee creamer. All of the vegetables looked fresh, and were replaced when needed. Toppings bars at the Magic Kingdom always make our meals more substantial, and were glad for the opportunities to have more vegetables, especially interesting ones like sautéed onions and mushrooms.
There is always plenty of seating at Cosmic Rays, whether you want to sit on the balcony with a view of the castle, on the interior, or in a room with an animatronic character named Sonny, who plays music and sings all day. Weve never had a problem finding a quieter seat.
Cosmic Rays is one of the counter service restaurants with more variety than most, and can be a good place for groups or families. There are plenty of healthy choices to be had here, including soups, salads, veggie burgers, and rotisserie chickens (I just unfortunately chose not to select one of those this time, even though I was sick). The Caesar salads looked very good, and well return the next time we want a quick meal thats not just burgers and fries.
