Boy, I can understand why you're upset! What nerve!!
I had the best boss in the world at my last job. She always said "you're a Mother first! Everything else comes second!" I never took off more time than I was allowed in a year due to taking care of (then I only had 1 child) my son. Of course, I did hear from other girls in the office that they had gripes about me taking time off.

Well, then my Mom was diagnosed with Cancer & I had to take care of her. The way it worked out, I never even got to give notice at work about quitting. I just called my boss (basically after leaving my Mom's doctors office) & told her that I didn't think I'd be returning.

Anyway, she held the job open for as long as she could & then she had to release me. She obviously believed what she preached about family coming first.
We're still in touch with each other & I'm so ever grateful I worked for someone like her during the time my Mom was diagnosed. It was a tough enough time then. After my Mother passed away, she told me that if ever I'm in the job market again & if she has any openings, she'd love to have me back.
So poo-poo on the other snots in the office that were always trying to draw attention to my being off when I had to take the day off due to my son being sick!
Sounds like you need a boss like I had!
