Revealing our surprise trip... UPDATED!!

I'm so glad you came back to let us know how it went! I could feel the excitement while reading it. :goodvibes

THAT IS SO GREAT!!! I'm telling you they will remember that FOREVER!!! We surprised our DD's in 2002 ... they still talk about how exciting that was ... they want us to do it again ... it was SO hard for me to keep that secret!!! (We drove that year (last time!) and told them on the way, in South Carolina actually!!! They thought we were going to visit relatives down south, so did my family as I knew one of them would slip up and ruin it!!! SURPRISE!!!

What a wonderful surprise. Sounds like it was lots of fun. :thumbsup2

Awwww that's so great!!! What an awesome reveal, you pulled it off perfectly! :cheer2:

While money can't buy love, parents who want to do something special for their children show those children that they love them, and love always multiplies and comes back to both the giver and the recipient. Reading your story reminded me of how my parents surprised us with a trip to Disneyland in 1988. Dad had to go to Las Vegas for a convention, so they took us along and told us we were going to the Hoover Dam. Then, they distracted us from all the signs leading to the Hoover Dam and we were asleep while they drove into California. We didn't realize where we were until the California produce check. Then, we put everything together. Mom and dad had a car full of 5 happy and thrilled children.

I've been reading a lot of great trip reports lately. Your reveal story makes me think that you could write an awesome trip report. Please think about it.

Marie

What a fabulous surprise SleepingJ.B. I can just imagine the thrill of realising where you were!! :goodvibes I'm intrigued by your trip report title, particularly the 'Serenity Now' part [Frank Constanza influence by any chance?!!! - I'll check it out!]

Jackie,
You have four good looking girls there! You must be very proud. What a great surprise those girls got - I dunno how you stayed quiet for so long!

Brianne, Mimi, Karen, thanks! :)

Awww mmeb what a great thing to say, thanks! I wanted to write one after our trip last year but I was so sad when we got back, I had to avoid thinking about Disney, impossible though it is!!! I tend to waffle a bit but I'll certainly consider doing a report after our next trip - I'm certainly gonna keep notes even if it's just for my own diary.

Your story made me cry! I'm planning a surprise 13th birthday trip for DS. We are leaving this Wednesday. I travel a lot on business. So just yesterday, I told DS that I have to go to Arizona again next week. Then I told him that I'd like him to go to the airport with me. Just the two of us, but Dad will meet us at the airport a little later to take him to school. (I can get away with that doesn't make sense logic since he has Downs. I don't want DH to have to take us - we'll be leaving home by 5:00 am). When Dad doesn't show, he's just going to have get on the plane with me! Oops - this plane's going to Florida, not Arizona.

I just hope he is really excited! He's been asking to go to WDW, and I've been telling him "sometime."

I am just reading this thread for the first time. What a wonderful surprise and sounds like your boys truly appreciated it and have something wonderful to look forward to. Hope you have a great time planning your trip!! :cool1:

Deb, yours is one name I remember from last year, and every now and then I've seen a post from you - but I just now stumbled onto THIS whole thread!! How very exciting!!

Thank you so much for sharing your joy, and your enthusiasm - I agree, your kids will always hold dear the love that surrounds them, and the amazing ingenuity and creativity you've shown - and then to go 2 whole years sooner!! Amazing!!

Now I have to stop spending money at the House of the Mouse and get myself to Ireland!! DD is going to her first Feis next Saturday, if she works real hard she gets to go to Ireland for Irish Step Dancing in 2008!! One way or another, we're going to get there, mark my words!! :)

:wizard:

Eeyore, I remember your posts very well!! It was on my panicky thread where I was looking for help because I couldn't fathom having to book meals 3 months out. Hey it's a good thing it wasn't 180 days back *then* - that would have been pass-me-the-brown-bag-I-can't-breathe kinda ugly!! :lmao: I saw some posts from you too over the months since I've been back on the boards but my healthy Irish paranoia often stops me from saying 'hi' in case it's met with 'who are you?' on a public message board. Oh the potential humiliation is too much!! Hee hee!

You gave me fabulous advice on restaurants and general Disney tips and I can tell ya they helped so much!! Our dining experiences were very successful!! I need to book October's ADRs on Thursday next - I shall not panic [*breeeeathing slooooowly*] :teeth:

So you're finally gonna get to Ireland. Yay!! Your ancestors were from around these parts if I recall - Cork! I wish your daughter the very best of luck with her feis. Good for her!!! It's certainly the kind of dancing that takes great skill and focus - I did it for a couple of years as a child but of course back then it was considered waaaaay uncool and that prevailed until the Riverdance explosion - I'm pleased it's gained a very positive reputation. The dresses are beautiful!! Great to 'see' ya Eeyore. I'll keep reminding you about that Irish trip in case you put it on the back burner! ;)

Tink-n-Belle and Lisa,
It must be the DIS hormones, because now you've got me crying! Lisa, I just think what you're doing for your boy is so incredibly sweet!! How I'd love to see/hear his reaction when he finds out!! :goodvibes He's gonna be over the moon!!! Best of luck to you for a great trip!!!

disgirl, thanks!! Yes, they are very appreciative children - of course they have their moments but in general I'm glad to say they understand the value of things! :)

You have to wait till next week to book adr's???? You must be going late October!!! I'm trying the last week of September - with the rest of the planning Dis members!!

Great memory Deb - yes, Cork is where it is, and I've been collecting books, and DVDs - I found one that has a great itinary, that is "Different" than a lot of the bus tours... I just love watching the dvd's tho, such a gorgeous country on dvd, and I know that doesnt do it justice!!

DD is trying to get me to warm up with her on the dance - yeah, no!! That is alot of work - and jumping!! I'm very impressed with how hard everyone works - dd did ballet, and jazz, combine with tap, and you have a better perspective, but Irish step is so much more!!

Glad some of my typed words helped, you are a beautiful person, and you shine thru your posts!! And I know exactly what you mean about seeing your name, and thinking, she'll not remember me, I'm just one of tens of thousands of posters on the Dis - and I'd come across as a DebIreland "groupie"!!

Cant wait to watch for more of your planning etc!! :) :wizard:

Wonderful reveal! Thank you so much for typing the story for us!! I am so excited for you I feel like it is my trip too. :rotfl:

I loved your reveal story DebIreland! You should absolutely write a trip report when you get back! It is a good thing that I am at work or I would've been balling! It was hard enough swallowing the lump!

I am glad that you got so many great ideas. It must have been amazing to see your children's faces.

I hope that you have a Magical time! I am sure that you will your family sounds precious!

Thanks Tricia and Mickey F.
Tricia, thanks for giving me the incentive to write out what happened. It'll make a nice keepsake! :)
