I know at once upon a child you can get an extra stamp on the customer appreciation card for not using a plastic bag. So this got me thinking does anyone know of any other stores that offer a discount for using your own bags?

target - 5 cent discount for every bag
Stop & Shop (NE region grocery store) - 5 cent discount for every bag

My local natural foods co-op does but I always forget my bags!

I think Whole Foods has some type of savings, but I'm not sure how much.

Thanks guys. We are trying to get in the habit of bringing our bags with us everywhere. It is just nice to have a little extra for using them.

In my area if you do not bring your own bag you are charged 10¢ for a paper bag.

I try to not get a bag when I can avoid it and bring a bag when I know I will.

Here Redner's and ShopRite pay us for bringing our own bags. Safeway stopped doing this.

The Stop and Shop in my area does the 5 cent discount only if the bag being resued is from Stop and Shop.

Whole foods will give you 10 cents per bag. But they ask if you want it or give it to the charity they chose for that time. I usually just give it to charity.

Really? Mine gives the 5 cent per bag discount and it doesn't matter if its a pathmark bag, walmart bag-whatever...

Interesting that Stop and Shop doesn't give the 5 cents anymore. I have Giant here and it's got the same parent company as S&S and they still give the credit. Target also gives 5 cents and Mom's Organic Market (MOM) gives 10 cents per bag. I don't think Safeway gives anything but I don't really shop there much so I don't know.

Sprouts & Target give 5c off a bag.

Aldi will charge 6-10c a bag if you want a new paper/plastic bag

Trader Joes puts your name in a drawing for a gift card if you bring in reusable bags

Wow, aprilgail, I think you live by Babylon? Here in central Brookhaven our Stop and Shop took away the 5 cents per bag. I wonder if its a regional Long Island thing? Hmm, doesnt seem to be fair. We always take our bags and now we get nothing!

Our Stop & Shop in CT doesn't give the 5 cent discount anymore, either. I asked the head cashier and she told me that people were 'abusing it' :confused3 I have no idea what that means.

Hmmm. My local Target has never given me a 5 cent discount for every reusable bag. I need to look into that. I normally bring those in with me.
I do get dirty looks from the cashiers when I hand them over so I guess that's something.

My grocer gives 5 cents on canvas or the big durable plastic tote bags, 2 cents on plastic (like the ones you got at their store to begin with :rotfl2:).

The Target I shop at doesn't either. I actually even quit taking them in because the last time I did the cashier didn't even my things in it. I told her I had a Target reusable bag, held it out for her to take, she looked at the me, looked at the bag and then just put my things in plastic bags. :confused3

I usually remind the cashier about the five cents per bag. I work at Target and will admit that sometimes when I cashier I forget to scan the five cent bar code.
