My dd had her sweet 16 party the other night. She received 3 couch bags
verious color/styles however...she doesn't like coach. Does anyone know if
Macy's takes them back or do I need to go to an authorized dealer with coach
we do not have the receipts either.

update...
one does have a gift receipt from macys!!!

Do you mean Coach?

If so you have to be careful as they may have bought at the outlets. If so that's the only place you can return I believe.

I wish I had your DD friends :) I LOVE Coach

I would first look up on the Coach website to see if they are a current style bag (this will help you tell if they were bought at an outlet). I will say that chances are you will have a very hard time returning these without the receipt, even if they are current Macy's put little stickers on the price tag of higher priced items stating that the sticker must be on the price tag in order to return it.

Are the people who your DD got them from good enough friends that they would understand if she wanted to return them and she could ask them for the receipt.

opps you can tell I am not into coach either spelled it wrong :rotfl2:

I will check their website out first and then see if the outlets might carry them if not hello ebay:love:

I know when I worked at Macy's, we did not accept coach purses without a receipt. We might offer store credit if it had the original tags and it came from us. You need to get those receipts and tags.

Your DD16 got 3x $100+ bags from friends? Goodluck returning, there is a good chance they are knock-offs. Hopefully you can get a receipt.

OP --- I see you are from NY and knock-offs are so easily purchased in the City. If they were purchased at Macy's (or another retail store) I think there would be some sort of tag on them to identify where they were purchased; don't know why all three people would have cut off the entire tags, rather than cutting off just the price and leaving the store name on it.

I came into this thread to see who in the world gave someone a couch as a gift :rotfl2:

I have a niece who gives very generous gifts like that so kids do give the really McCoy these days.

You may end up ebaying them but they'll probably bring a good amount.

Seems funny that her friends wouldn't know she isn't into Coach though. Why would they spend $$$ on something like that when she obviously doesn't carry them or even talk about wanting one? Oh well.

 I was like, "Couch gifts? What the heck?"

I wondered if it was a *name* for the stuff that gets lost in the couch cushions!!!!

hey, here on the DIS, you just never know...:rotfl:

Generally, if I get a couch gift that I don't want, I just stuff it back down between the cushions.

That's what I was thinking. I don't know of many 16 year olds with the means to spend hundreds of dollars on gifts for friends.

Personally, I would never ask someone for a receipt so I could return their gift; it might hurt their feelings, and I don't think it's polite. You have to take into account that they might be knock-off's, or got them on clearance, or something, and they may not want your DD to know what they paid for them. Or, they might not even have a receipt at all. If you sell them on ebay, you don't know if they are authentic, either, so you could get into a sticky situation if you say they are, but they aren't (and have to price accordingly).
Can anyone in your house use them? I would even consider possibly re-gifting them.

I could really use a new brakes for your car gift. :upsidedow

LMAO..me too

My guess is they are knock-offs, which are still popular, but not as pricey.
Be careful trying to sell them on ebay, because you could get in trouble if you can't validify their authenticity. Craigslist may be more the way to go. Or, if you find out they are authentic or came from an outlet store, you can try to return them, but without a reciept, you'll only get store credit.. for, you guessed it, another coach purse :upsidedow

PICTURES! We have some serious coach addicts on here. We'll try to tell you if they are current or outlet or fakes.

Maybe oits the same person who gave BACON as a gift :rotfl2:

Ha ha!!! I guess I really shouldn't be surprised. I just hope my MIL doesnt see this thread. I really don't need another couch....or bacon....

I'm another one who only opened this thread to see what a couch gift was! But I agree, post pictures - I work at a high end department store, I might be able to tell you if they look real? Although I've seen some knock offs that look awesome, just like the real thing!
