Returning a car at Indy?

I'll be renting a car for the drive to the Indy Airport and was wondering how far a walk is it from the return spot to the upper level.

I looked on the map and it looks there is an escalator within a few feet or so from the rental spot but what about the return area? Same general area?

I'm planning on using National, great service the last time I rented (MCO), but this time I'll have DS5 and DS10 with me and it'll be about 5 am when I drop the car.

With the wee ones tagging along I like to know what to expect in advance.

I don't recall exact distances...but it wasn't too far of a hike when I returned a rental there (Spring Break, 2004)...the only problem now is everything is all torn up for construction....not sure if that has had any effect on where you would return the rental car....Indy airport is only about the size (and appearance) of a bad bus station anyways...so it shouldn't be too far. Hopefully someone from Indy will have a current update.

The rental car returns at Indy are in lots that aren't by the terminal. You'll have to take a shuttle to the terminal. The drop-off from the shuttle buses is just outside the doors of the lower level. You'll have to walk across 4 lanes of roadway to the terminal, then there are several escalators going to the upper level.
