Ok first, I want to say I am super excited for anyone who's been able to book on the Wish. My early 2020 cruise (which has been rescheduled 4 times now :guilty:) would have made me platinum. Since I'm gold, I have to wait until Monday. I don't typically like shorter cruises (a week isn't enough now!), but I want to at least explore the new ship, so I will probably book something around hurricane season and cross my fingers. I sailed on both the Dream and Fantasy within their first few months too.

So back to my 2020 cruise, we last switched it from October 2021 to January 2022. My daughter and I are both now fully vaccinated and we are dying to get back on the ship!!! We want to move it back to this fall if they restart. I'm not asking for everyone to respond with their best guess, but is there anyone on these forums who has some inside knowledge at this time of where Disney is in this process? lol I know Chapek recently said "may be able to resume in the fall." Are there any updates since then? I always seem to find out Disney-related info more quickly here, so I thought it couldn't hurt to ask. :flower:

Any inside knowledge would be kept very close, as it falls into SEC guidelines. Insider info that influences stock price cannot be shared without extreme risk.

Nothing has been filed with the CDC.

Thank you! I guess I didn't mean that inside lol....not trying to get anyone in trouble. I just wondered if there was any news I missed. Like everyone here, I really miss cruising!!

I have a friend who works in the cruise travel industry - she told me that one of her colleagues is currently in DC participating in meetings to try to work things out for resuming cruising out of FL. It sounded like one of the sticking points is some cruise lines wanting to sail with vaccinated passengers (no specifics) and the conflict with the FL Governor mandating that vaccination status cannot be required.

Thank you so much! I just found some threads tonight catching up on this. I’ll keep my thoughts to myself re the Florida governor, but I keep reading that the feds prevail with port decisions. I will vaccinate, mask, eat out on my balcony all day if I have to, I just want on the ship!
I always cry when I get off the ship, I’ll probably cry this time when I finally get back on!

IF the cruise lines really want to start with vaccinations, I really wonder if one of them bites the bullet and just goes for it, inviting the governor to try and stop it.

Does anyone here really think he has the guts to sue Disney? How on earth can that play out in the press.

Absolutely he does. You can see the messaging from miles away.
I don't know if I just don't believe he would, or if I just want him to try. For someone who talks about how much he is responsible for restarting the FL economy to sue the single largest source of tax income in the state? It would be a hot mess, inside of a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck.

(I edited this, I meant tax income, not largest employer)

I personally don't think it's worth either side pushing too hard until the cruise lines know they can get their ships staffed. That is likely to be the biggest issue. So much could change by the time the crew is back on board and trained. Doesn't seem worth a premature, expensive and public battle right now.

The word "woke" would be involved.

since we've already gone political against the FL governor, I'll add my two cents in his defense. Be glad someone is standing up for your rights - requiring vaccines for any service is a dangerous precendent - someone out there, somwhere, has a valid medical reason that prevents them from receiving the vaccine. put yourself in those shoes and imagine being unable to cruise (or fly, stay, dine, etc.) due a condition beyond your control - THAT is discrimination and it has no place in this day and age.

This is an interesting point, and one that will need to be figured out. Right now, I am not sure if "medical reason" qualifies as a disability, but how vaccine mandates for certain activities aligns with or conflicts with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be important as any vaccine requirements move forward. I think one thing Florida could do to save face is pause on not allowing vaccine requirements until the us case load is below xxx. (I don't know how I specifically would measure it or what the water mark would be.) I wouldn't be surprised if vaccine requirements aren't part of a long term strategy, but just allow some thing to open sooner, especially higher risk activities like cruising or other international travel.

Unfortunately there really isn't any way of knowing. Even "insider" info may be wrong in a matter of hours. There's a lot of bickering between cruise lines and Florida right now which is a major sticking point, plus the CDC. Lots of factors at play and most of them are not entirely up to Disney.

I hope we can all start cruising again very soon!

I don't expect DCL would be the first to try -- it would more likely be another cruise line. DCL isn't going to be the first one out of the gate. Disney was a good month behind other Orlando theme parks opening last summer, and other cruise lines starting UK and European cruising before DCL dipped their toe in the water.

Someone may push forward with vaccinated cruises but I don't think it will be Disney first.

If you think the governor would ever sue Disney over this you haven't been paying attention.

Ok? So let that person who has a very legitimate reason to not get the vaccine provide a medical exemption. No one is trying to discriminate against very legitimate medical reasons to not get the vaccine. You have to put yourself in the cruise line's shoes, however. If they sail and days later, there are 10 people in a hospital bed due to COVID and 2 die, they're getting shut down again. For a long time. These businesses are trying their hardest to sail in the safest way possible. Does that mean going to extremes in safety protocols for a period of time? Of course it does.

The state of Florida (like most, if not every state) requires children to be immunized to be enrolled in daycare or schools. And that's a service that's a little more essential than pleasure cruises.

Those vaccines have been tested to death and their effects are well known. This non-vaccine (gene therapy) has not. There is NO long term info on what it might do to people. People are free to take it as they wish, but to insist others do is tyrannical. Personally I will take my chance with a 99.7% survival rate against a 95% efficacy rate any day.
