Just curious if anyone knows if you are on a VERY restricted diet, can you request certain foods and drinks?. An example of my needs are I can only drink Lactaid Milk in my tea and cereal or drink water that has been boiled for at least five minutes. I plan on bringing bottled water that I can buy at Publix that my system is use to for we are doing our own thing, but at sit down meals where I am sure I can't bring my own water, I may have a problem. I know I probably can order soda with no ice, but really don't care for soda because I limit my sugar as well. I also cannot drink diet sodas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Eggle

I cruised with a friend that was also lactose intolerant in January and they told us they did not have lactaid milk on board - they offered shelf milk - not the same. We did not give them advance notice though, maybe if you do you will have better luck??

why cant you walk in with your own water?

(I know people walk in restaurants on cruise ships with their alcoholic drink)

I know that you can buy a bottle of wine and your servers will make sure it follows you on the rotation. I would think if you talked to dining ahead of time (first via your reservation) and then go to where you can request changes and ask to speak to someone in dining that you could arrange something. Maybe buying a gallon jug that they could label with your name and table number on it so that they can use that for you each night. I think most Asst. Servers (the ones who handle the drinks) would be happy to take care of it (and of course you would tip them well for going the extra mile for you.

They want to make your cruise magical so as long as you give them some insight up front I'm sure they will do all they can for you.

Thank you everyone! I think I will try calling ahead and see if I can supply my own drinking water. Sometimes people don't understand that all it takes is one glass of water that I am not use to, to set my colitis off for weeks. I will also find out if I can bring my own bottle of water to the dinner table with me. I don't want anyone to be offended, but I would also like to see much more of the ship other then the restrooms!! I am sure I will sneak a ginger ale in there every now and then if I can just for a change of taste! As far as not having milk for a few days, that I can do. I'll just drink the cup of tea without it and forego the cereal for a bagel. It's just the hole in the bagel gives me the worst indigestion!! :p Imagine what donut holes would do!! YUM!

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't Parmalat (the stuff that doesn't need to be kept cold until it's open) come in a lactose free version? You could keep it in your stateroom fridge.

If I were you I'd bring my own bottled water to the meals. No one will care. If anything they'll bring a glass over for you :)

I've seen that milk on the shelves, but never have I seen a lactose-free one. I'll keep my eyes open between now and next May and maybe I'll get to have my tea the way I like it then. Thanks for the advice. :)

1) make sure your dietary restrictions are noted on your reservation.

2) after you board, go to where they are doing the dining room changes. Confirm with the head server there to make sure that they know about your special request. You can do this at the first dinner, but as stated in an another post, they do need to know in advance.

My husband is lactose intolerant and they did a wonderful job on the Magic to make sure he didn't get sick. Our waiter gave him a menu the night before so he could decide what he wanted. They prepared it special for him with no milk , cheese, or any other dairy products. I think this is why my husband loves to sail on the Magic, because he is treated like a king. Our waiter's name was Ashley(my name too) and he is sure he brought home the wrong Ashley!! I was under extreme pressure to treat him better when we got home. Don't worry. Bring your water and be very clear with your waiter your needs. Have fun!!!

That's great to hear that the wait staff is so accommodating. I will shop the Publix by Celebration for my water before heading out to DCL and make sure I have everything straightened out with my server. I can eat small quantities of dairy but prefer to save that for when I just have to have an ice cream and can't hold out anymore! Just wish it was Mickey Premium Bar!!!

When we went last year on the Wonder, my mom was with us. She is allergic to shrimp and made sure to mention it to our waiter and sure enough ... he was always on the look-out for her, steering her thru the menu every night ... the cast members truly make the cruises both WONDER-ful and MAGIC-al!
