Planning a stay at GF. Is it "common" for GF guests to simply take monorail rides to the other MK monorail resorts to grab a meal (either CS or TS)? Is it worth it? Or is there enough at the parks and the GF that I wouldn't need to even worry about it?

Even though my family and I have not stayed at the Grand Floridian, we have stayed at the Contemporary and Polynesian and we always make a few trips to the Grand Floridian so we can eat at Gasparilla's Grill & Games, because it's one of our favorite counter service locations. So for us it's a common thing to do.

You should definatley check out the other monorail resorts and restaurants if you can.
There's plenty of great food at the GF - but also at the Poly and Contemporary. I'd recommend checking at least one restaurant from each of the monorail resorts out if you have the time and the budget. :)

Eat all over the world, not just in the parks or your home resort.

We stayed 5 nights at the Carribean Beach resort last year and also ate at the following:
- Epcot, MGM and Magic Kingdom
- Animal Kingdom Lodge, Grand Floridian, Contemporary

If you are staying at GF, I do hope you try Citrico's at the GF.. Wonderful dining experience, but you will need ADR's to get in.. Yes, do monorail to other resorts for dining and also eat at Epcot.....Check out the dining section here and make some ADR's for your trip so that you can enjoy the dining experience part of WDW.

thanks for the replies! We'll definitely work some other resorts into our planning now that I see it is the thing to do! Appreciate it.

We like to leave the MK for lunch and travel to the GF Cafe or Kona for lunch. Its a nice time to relax, cool down, and enjoy the different resorts.

Our last visit we tried a bit of everything. A lot of Resort Dining for a change.

MK- Tony's Town Square & Cosmic Ray's.
MGM- Counter Service can't remember where.
AK- BBQ
Epcot- TS in Mexico, Canada, & the Coral Reef.
CS in Mexico & UK.
DTD- Capt n Jack's
Resorts- Spoodles @ Boardwalk
Chef Mickey's @ Contemporary
Cinderella's Gala Feast @ 1900 Park Fare Grand Floridian
Boma @ Animal Kingdom
Ohana @ Poly

I think that is all. We had a great time touring all the different Disney Resorts. Go for it. Enjoy.
