Restaurants in Mexico — Which is the good one?

San angel is beautiful inside. Amazing atmosphere, really hard to beat. Some claim the food in San Angel is wonderful, others terrible. The food is not Tex Mex, nor should it be. I love authentic Mexican food, and am not a fan.
Have read good reports of La hacienda, but have not tried it.
If you have not eaten at San Angel, I would so you can make up your own mind. At worst, the atmosphere is worth 1 bad meal.

Well, my DH wants to try Biergarten for the same reason. I ate there years ago and recall hating it because you have to sit with people you don’t know. I have heard the tables are super close together at San Angel. Did you feel you had adequate space and separation for your table?

Nothing to do with style. Find me a positive review from someone who reviews food for a living.

I don't only go to restaurants that get approval from some supposed expert. Good grief.

I like both restaurants. But the view from La Hacienda is very nice. I would just pick whichever menu appeals to you more.

I think the tables are far enough apart, especially for a Disney restaurant. If spacing bothers you, don't try Le Ceiller whatever you do. You are very close to the table next to you there!

I have heard references of two restaurants in Mexico, but the names of both sound so similar. Anyway, just curious what the difference between the two

If you are looking for typical MX food such as taco's, burritos, enchiladas with red salsa etc then neither will be what you're looking for

Typical Americanized Mexican fast food!

Pro reviewers are about the worst way to judge whether the food is good or not.

Do you ever like something a pro critic dislikes or dislike something a critic raves ?

Often, I like “B” rated movies too!

1st, the kids menus are fine at both. 2nd, the decor, I like the boat ride at Mexico but San Angel Inn though pretty, the restaurant is too dark for me. 3rd, La Hacienda, brighter but uncomfortable seating. 4th, Food is good at both and as Huff stated, depends on which region provides your favorites, we’ve enjoyed family meals at both!

Biergarten- like your husband, I have a love of German food (doesn’t necessary go hand in hand w/ the FL heat) and I hate buffets but... like in Munich, I don’t even mind sitting right next to other humans while eating and drinking!

You need to read the menus and see which offerings line up best with your likings. That's the best one.

It’s funny you mentioned Le Cellier. This was exactly the restaurant that I was thinking about in terms of being cramped and was hoping San Angel wasn’t as bad. Glad to hear it isn’t.

I consider San Angel Inn to be one of my "essential" eateries in the World and would never dream of missing it, no matter what. However, I love most food, provided that is well made and not super cheap or bad. I'm not a picky eater, in fact I am quite adventurous and really appreciate food that is a good representation of other cultures.

I never really ate much in my life at Taco Bell or other Tex Mex-style places, so for me, I was not let down by how "different" San Angel Inn was or for that matter, La Hacienda (I only ate there once, though, but it was quite good).

The only really, really bad restaurant I've been to in Disney World, to be quite honest, of the sit-downs, is Tony's Town Square. I've eaten at most of the theme park ones, most of the resort ones, and a few of Disney Springs. I even tried Tony's Town Square a few times years apart to give them another chance. Huge Flop both times.

Anyway, I wouldn't say San Angel Inn will be the most amazing meal you will have on your vacation but I have always left a satisfied customer. They are not perfect. But it's always an interesting meal, for sure, with unique flavors and quite memorable. And the theming is stunning. And I think the menu is pretty varied, actually, with alot of choices.

I love San Angel Inn. I agree that for me it’s a quintessential Epcot experience and I personally have never had a bad meal there.

I agree that they’re different styles and so might be judged differently based on preference. We’ve been to both a few times each and like both. I prefer La Hacienda while my DH prefers San Angel. We’ve had consistently better service at La Hacienda too. I have noticed new vegetarian choices at San Angel lately so we’re trying that one next month. La Hacienda has a separate vegetarian menu if you ask.

Depends if we want to see Illuminations during dinner. We will go San Angel if not.
