Restaurants booked: to walk up or not?

So, I've ALWAYS had ADR's for Disney trips and never done a walk-up. We have an ADR for AP at WL on 12/7 but I feel that it's too late to get us to MVMCP in a timely manner. I've tried calling to change to something IN the MK, but, of course, ADR's are booked solid.

Does that mean a restaurant WON'T take walk-ups? What's the official Disney policy? Should we chance a walk-up but keep the ADR just in case?

We have sometimes lucked out on sold out restaurants as a walk but right when they open....nothing later than that. Plus we are 2 adults so it maybe easier for them to fit in a small party.

What I dont get is most of the time these places are sold out the restaurants still look empty.

If it were me I would try and get a TS for lunch and wing it CS style for dinner

I wouldn't think you would be able to get a walk up in MK before MVMCP. That is a really busy time because so many people want to do what you want to do. I would maybe try a walk up at Grand Floridian Cafe or the Wave or Kona at opening for dinner

Everything was full when we called too. I took the Plaza at like 4:40. I seriously doubt you could walk up at least in the MK. Its booked up when we are there too for the MVMCP. I am having no luck finding something for Dec.6th and its not even a party day. I am thinking of doing a walk up at Kona at 5pm and if that does not work out I might just go to Captain Cooks. Hope you find something.

Depends on the restaurant, but I wouldn't suggest during a busy time. I have been successful with a walk up a few times, but it was only two of us. Even with two of us we were turned away at a few different places. A bit wiser now and I make ADRs for everything because it just isn't worth it to me to take a chance.

Why not mix things up and do a lunch TS and then have a CS dinner later on inside the MK.

We had reservations at the Wave before MNSSHP, decided to try and get in a little earlier. We still waited almost two hours to get in, mostly due to the hostesses keeping horrible track. Waitresses in the lounge (where all the families without reservations were waiting) were complaining because no one was ordering drinks or apps, etc. We were there 30 minutes before they opened, put our name on the list. (we went into the lounge, ordered apps).

One of the managers, unaware of this huge MK event, lol, was trying to calm his overwhelmend staff by explaining about some party in the MK, LOL.
The restaurant was only 1/2 full the whole two hours we were waiting. Now, I do know a new manager has been added, thank goodness, lol. Hopefully he has straigtened them out over there by now.

ON the upside, the food is great and so was the waitstaff, once we got in.
