My BF and I are going to WDW for the princess half next year. I have a list of restaurants we want to try but none of them are really good for pre-race meal the night before. He requested a steak and potatoes-esque and eats pretty large portions. We already ruled out Chef Mickey's because we want to eat there later in the trip and Ohana as he doesn't think the spices will sit well. We may or may not have park tickets for that day so suggestions for in or our of park would be appreciated!

Not sure what your budget is but you may want to try Kona. They have some nice lighter meals with steak, fish or seafood. Also DTD has some good options like Paddlefish or the Boathouse.

If your budget permits Yachtsman Steakhouse at the YC has wonderful steak with sides included. It is a Signature Restaurant so upscale and expensive, but it is terrific.

I'd also second Raglan Road at DIS Springs. Any of the lamb, steak & pot roast entrees sound like a good match. Check out the updated menu on allears and also see some clips of the interior & entertainment on youtube. If you go, when you check in at the podium, ask to be seated in the main dining room (and not shunted off to a quiet side room) so you can see the stage and watch/listen to the live entertainment.

I would recommend Raglan Road or Le Cellier. Both have great steaks! CA Grill also has a wonderful steak!

Budget isn't really an issue since we're planning it out so early. I'll definitely have to check out the menus at Yachtsman, Le Cellier, and Raglan Road. We're more concerned with plain food and hearty portions (him mainly) because we've found that spices and races don't go well for us.

Traveling resort-to-resort is not something I recommend.

So, let's start with - where are you staying?

Big portions:
-- Epcot - Morocco.
-- Hollywood Studios - 50's Prime Time - very meat 'n' potato-y.
-- Any place that serves pasta - Via Napoli, Trattoria al Forno, Tutto, Italia, etc.
-- Shula's (or BlueZoo or Il Mulino) for a Siganture experience at Swan & Dolphin resort (near Boardwalk).
-- Disney Springs - Homecoming (fried chicken & potatoes).
-- Boathouse - indulge!
-- Dinner buffets at Cape May (seafood) and 1900 Park Fare (adults in costumes - kinda' characters) - will serve a great deal of food and are pretty good value for an eater.
-- Capa is both a steakhouse and tapas restaurant at Four Seasons. A big menu of very good food.

We're staying at the Contemporary so traveling resort-to-resort is pretty easy with the monorail and a quick walk to the MK buses. Haven't decided if we'll be going to a park that night but I will check out 50s Primetime- I haven't been there since I was a kid. I forgot about Trattoria al Forno but I ate there before wine & dine and it was good. I'll have to check out if there is steak and check out Cape May and 1900 Park Fare.

We are big fans of YSH. They let you swap the side that comes with your steak for one that comes for another. Which is great as I always get the filet but am not a fan of mashed potatoes so I opt for the gratin. I don't think anything we had was spicy
As far as traveling to another resort if you aren't driving use a taxi/Uber rather than Disney transit.

I'd suggest Le Cellier, 50's Prime Time, or even Liberty Tree Tavern (all you can eat Thanksgiving-type meal!) for what you describe.

I think we've done SEVEN 1/2-marathons in WDW so far, and we're partial to dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern or Via Napoli the night before races... :)

If you are staying at CR, I would check out the menus at Cali Grill and Artist Point at WL. Both great and easy to get to from CR.

If you aren't on the dining plan, check out Shula's at the Swan. You could take an uber over!

I have been to capa many a time. Its very adult menu . I find the FS better for 15+ year olds . And Disney for 14- year olds
But it would a big procedure going in and out.
I would go to California Grill

After looking through menus we're leaning towards Raglan Road with 50s Primetime or Le Cellier being an option if we do a park. The food seems good but pretty straightforward which is what we're looking for. We've done several races before and most spices don't really work for us which limits our options. We'd rather save those places for later when we can enjoy them since in normal life we love trying new foods and different spices! Thanks for everyone's input!

If you're looking for steak and potatoes, good-sized portions, and no park tickets required...I would go with either Yachtsman Steakhouse or Shula's.
