We will be staying in a rental home in Eagle point at the end of May, I am looking for some restaurants in that area that Disers think are great. Suggestions please.........

What type of food are you looking for? The whole of 192 is awash with chains, but very little else. Around the area you're staying (between markers 10 and 12) are, amongst others, branches of Damons, Ponderosa, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster, Uno, Chili's, Darryl's, Perkins, Denny's, TGI's, Taco Bell, and, of course, McD's, BK and KFC. Further west you will also find Outback Steakhouse and Carrabbas.

The new Gaylord Palms resort at the junction of Osceola Parkway and International Drive South (a 5-10 minute drive) has 3 restaurants: the critically acclaimed Sunset Sam's Fish Camp (which is partly on a sailboat, on a lagoon, inside the hotel!), the Old Hickory Steakhouse (a shack in the Everglades) and Villa de Flora (described as a "European market" set in a grand dining room of an old-world mansion). We've eaten lunch at Sunset Sam's and it was very good, although I think it is the dinner menu which gets the rave reviews. The most relaxed (and probably the cheapest) is Villa de Flora. Even if you don't eat there, it is worth a visit - the place is amazing.

You could also check out one or more of the restaurants at Celebration, again worth a visit in its own right.

Coming out of Eagle Point you will turn right and head upto US 192. At the junction you can turn left or right. Turning left will send you west and into places such as Ruby Tuesday, Al Pacino's, Celebration, Kobe, Charlies and Red Lobster - all within 5 - 8 mins drive. Going furthr west you can get to another Red Lobster, Outback, Key W Kools, Carrabbas, several chinese and pizza places - all about 12-15 mins drive.

If you turn right on US 192, most people do, then Olive Garden, TGI's and Cattleman's are all within 5 mins. Going further East are Outback, Red Lobster, Shells, etc.

Now then....the places most folks don't know of or how to get to:

Cross over US 192 on Poinciana Blvd and go to the end where you turn left on SR 535. Keep going for 6-8 mins and you will be at the Crossroads area. One of the entrances to Disney. In this area you can find most of the restaurants already mentioned plus Pebbles. Don't stop here though if you want really great food.....keep going....another 10 minutes until you get to Sand Lake Road. Turn right on Sand Lake Road and be prepared to spoiled for choice. Shortly on your left you will see a shopping plaza and Morton's of Chicago, Christini's and Chathams can all be found close by. Going a little further you will see Moonfish, The Melting Pot, Ruths Chris, The Samba Room and lots more restaurants. Welcome to Tiger land !! It's not a cheap area to eat but the food choice and quality is excellent.

I saw that someone had stated that a Darryl's was on 192. I just wanted to comment that we eat at the one on International Drive quite frequently. We have found the prime rib is some of the best in Orlando, but get there early they tend to give out.

Wow!!! I love to eat out. I am going to have a hard time deciding where to eat. Fleisure and UKDEB- If you had your choice of one restaurant to try , what would it be? We have most of the chain restaurants where I live, so I'm looking for one that is different but will be okay to take the kids (3and 9) with us. I appreciate the great advice.

We discovered the area of Sand Lake Road to which FLeisure refers quite by accident during our last trip and all I can say is, WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME ABOUT IT BEFORE! ;) We are real foodies and we were in a real quandry when we stumbled across all these restaurants during the last couple of days of our trip. Even the McDonalds looked upmarket! Luckily we are going back very soon.

It is quite a trek from Poinciana Boulevard, though and I imagine you are looking for something a bit closer to 'home'. As I mentioned before though, most of the places close-by are chains, so you will have to be prepared for a bit of a drive if you want something different. With a 3yo and a 9yo you are going to need somewhere which will hold their attention. Are they used to eating out?

One place which does spring to mind is Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you don't already know, it's an all-you-can-eat buffet, with some unusual options, but with plenty of choice for the kids. AKL is a stunning resort with a truly wonderful ambiance during the evenings. I'm sure your kids would love seeing the animals and they could sit and listen to the story-telling at Arusha Savannah. The CMs there are all very knowledgable about the animals and never seem to tire of telling guests all about them. Stay on Poinciana Blvd as it crosses the 192 and then turn left as it hits the Osceola Parkway. This road takes you all the way to AKL - just stick with it.

I generally try to visit Darryl's every other trip. The one on 192 is in the Fort Liberty development where the now defunct Wild Bill's dinner show was held. I have eaten there many times and I cannot remember a single bad meal. It's not gourmet, but it sure is good.

If you're looking for something different....like UKDEB , I'd go with AK Lodge....but JIKO's......a wonderful meal everytime :)

FL - I'd agree with you, but for the 3yo and 9yo - not sure that they would cope so well with either the menu options or the more adult feel of the dining room. Boma has much more of a family orientation IMHO.

Depends on how well behaved they are ;)

Seriously, I have never let my kids govern how I eat. If we are going out to a nice restaurant and they are coming, they know we expect them to behave accordingly. When they were younger (now 9 & 12) we used to let them take a book or something to color in.

Each to their own. :)

Thanks for the AKL suggestions, we actually stayed there for 10 nights in July so we've done their restaurants, I agree it's a great place for kids. I want something we've not tried whether it's at Disney or not. I was thinking of Whispering Canyon, any comments. I also love Darryl's, because I'm thinking it's part of the chain that has a restaurant near our home. What about the ones mentioned at Gaylord Palms? I like trying weird food, like at Boma, but DH does not so we need to steer clear of that.

Personally I'd head into the Dr. Phillips area (Sand Lake Road) and have a wander around until I saw something I fancied. There's plenty of choice and I'm sure you'll find something for all the family.

I fyour kids are not afraid of loud noises or fire, then you might want to try a Kobe Japanese Stekahouse restaurant.

I know it is a chain per se but there are not alot of them around....

Great food and they cook on the table in front of you...good entertainment that way...just beware of the fire at times and some loud noises when they are cooking.

I just returned from a stay at Eagle Pointe last week. I'm not sure it was a "great" meal, but we very much enjoyed our dinner one night at Pizzario Uno. If you go left (west) on 192, the first one you come to is in a plaza on your left, and your kids only pay what they weigh. For 40 and 45¢ our kids ate very well!

Have a good trip. I loved our villa, but I will say the homes at Eagle Pointe are very close together. If we'd had noisy neighbors it could have been a problem. Luckily we didn't, except somebody' yippy dog with a 4 a.m. wake-up call.

Very easy, using 535 and 536. That takes you right in by Epcot.

On Mapquest, plug in your villa address and World Center Dr. as your destination, it gives you a nice overview. They say it takes 13 minutes via that route and I would totally agree.

When coming out of AK, we did take the 192 route. It seemed to take a little longer, but it would no matter what as AK is physically farther from Eagle Pointe.

Will you be spending any time at Sea World? We found it was also very easy to get up there via 535 instead of I-4.

Overall, we really loved the villa location. Hey, maybe you'll be in the same property! PM me if you want to know what villa we rented. :)
