I just signed up for restaurant.com today. I don't know a lot about it but I've been hearing a little bit about it on these boards but I'm confused about how it works.

We are Florida residents and will be taking a short weekend trip at the end of the month. We haven't been to many of the offsite restaurants yet but we want to so we can save some money. I see some on restaurant.com for $100 of food for $40 and it seems too good to be true. If they say $35 minimum purchase do they mean after the $100 you have to spend an additional $35. I'm assuming that's how it works but I wasn't sure.

Also,what are some good places near Disney on restaurant.com? We will have a car and there will be 5 of us. I saw giordano's,shogun,house of blues which I've been to before and a couple others.

This is how it works:

First off- NEVER EVER buy a certificate without a code! Often you can get a code for 80% off the purchase price!

Once you have a code, go to the site, find a restaurant purchase the certificate amt. that is best for you. Be careful and read ALL the stipulations. Some are for dine in only, some you need to purchase a certain amount, some are for specific days. After you purchase you can immediently print out the certificate.

Take the certificate with you when you go to the restaurant, and present it to the server when the bill comes. They will then deduct the certificate amt. from your check. That's it!

ex: If you purchase a $100 gift certificate for $40 and you have a code it could be as little as $8.00. Your entire check would have to be over $35.00 (not including alcohol & tip). Now, I've never used a coupon that was more than my actual check, so I don't know how it works if you require change back from your bill. We're just 2 people so I get the smaller certificates.

It is more of a coupon.
Each restaurant has a different set of rules/mins.
Each amount has a different set of rules/mins.

You MUST highlight the circle for the amount you want to buy in order to get the specifics!!!! Usually a 100 cert requires a 200 min.

we used one at BB kings in Orlando and they allowed alcohol purchases to be put towards the minimum purchase, that is not always the case.

Make sure you read exactly what you are buying first to make sure it works for you!

We ate at the Giraffe restaurant at Royal Plaza Hotel, Kook sports bar ,Buena Vista Palace and Andiamo Italian Bistro ,Hilton . All 3 hotels are on Hotel Plaza blvd, Downtown Disney, so we didn't need a car. We just walked across the street from Downtown Disney. All 3 were fine, but I really appreciated the steak dinner at Giraffe. We will definatly go back. We also ate at Garden Grove Dolphin, but I didn't think the buffet was good value for the price, even with $25 off. I won't go back.

I waited for a code, and got the certificated for $2.00 each.

I use rest.com coupons regularly. They will have a minimum purchase and most do not include alcohol towards your coupon amount. So if you buy a coupon good for $100 off your bill you will probably have to spend $200 and alcohol won't count towards that $200. We generally have a coupon for $25 off, I'll pay about $4 for it and then we have to spend $35 to use it, that means we will have to pay $10 when we are done eating. All restaurants we've used a coupon at apply tax and an 18% gratuity as well. Be sure to read the fine print for all the details, minimum purchase, restricted dates and items, etc.

We use them all the time. Tried an Indian restaurant near US last trip, Tabla, was wonderful. We get them for Giordanos almost every trip. I bought a whole bunch of HOB ones back when that place was still on there, and still have a couple left .

I use their certificates all of the time. Make sure you read the restrictions. Not all of them are double in price, meaning buy a $100 certificate you need to spend $200. Just click on the amount, and look below, it will adjust to that amount. Also if alcohol isn't included it will state it. I have bought certificates that allowed you to purchase beverages and alcohol, only because in the restrictions it didn't say not good towards beverages/alcohol. I have also bought some that stated, not good on beverages/alcohol. Alot of the ones I buy are $25, and I have to spend a minimum of $35. Also always look for codes, just do a google search "restaurant.com codes"

we use them all the time on Long Island NY and i will not buy without a code like some else has posted . they are really good but like someone has said read all the fine prints on each one you buy

I know in 2009 and 2010 in the month of September they had a 90% coupon code,I picked up a bunch $25 certificates for $1.Last year they never had the 90% codes and I doubt they'll have them this year as I'm seeing fewer and fewer emails advertising coupon codes at 70%-80%.I think 70% is the lowest I'll go to buy these especially as I've also seen a drop in the quality of the restaurants offered.

It is $50 certificate - requires a $100 purchase (someone on the restaurant board said they called HOB and alcohol is included)

currently $20, but with the GOLD code that expires today (8/10) it is $8

I grabbed one for our family of 4 - $60 for dinner and a couple of drinks in WDW is a bargain

We use them a LOT, also. My son is a BIG fan of their restaurants and when he asks "do you have any coupons" I know exactly what he means!

I agree, always use the codes! They come up later in the month (the first week is usually full price) and get better based on the promotion.

I like to call the restaurant first to see if they are still participating. I've had an issue with restaurants who dropped off several times before. One restaurant here in Atlanta had a large sign on the window screaming that they don't use Rest.com anymore! I sent an email and was quickly sent a certificate to replace the one that was no good.

We have a HOB certificate as well as Kimonos and Garden Grove in the Swan and Dolphin. Does anyone know if they still accept these? I noticed they aren't being sold on Restaurant.com anymore. Or at least the ones at the Swan and Dolphin aren't.

If they show on your account information and don't have anything that says to replace them they should be good.Sometimes when a restaurant stops accepting them restaurant.com will send you an email telling you and what to click on to replace them.Other times I either haven't seen the email or they didn't send one and I just checked my account info and saw one that wasn't good anymore and then you're just a couple of clicks away from replacing it.I still have a Bluezoo and an Il Mulino certificate that I haven't used.I did use the one I had for Garden Grove.

Thanks! I didn't know about the code. I am going to get a couple for restaurants by my house & a couple of them in Orlando..Has anyone tried Bubbaques in Orlando? Does anyone know how far of a drive it is from Disney?

It was further than I expected. I think it took about 25 minutes to get back to AKL. The food was good and we enjoyed it. I don't mind going "off campus" and we will go to Bubbaques again next time we are down if they still have the gift certificate deal.

I bought one for outback in Buena Vista. $75 off purchase of $150. We'll have a large party so we'll have no problem spending $150. Got a groupon for Giordano's and used mypoints to get gift cards to rainforest cafe. Should be able to eat at some favorite places pretty cheaply this trip

We decided to try 2 certificates this time last year. Both were $25 which we bought for $1. We went to the restaurant on a Sat only to be told they don't accept them on weekends (not on the restrictions on the certificate). So we went back on a weekday. Ate our meal and the server took the certificate. He came back and told us it had already been used. We ended up paying the full price for a 2nd time. I email Restaurant.com who said I had to take it up with the restaurant that it had been validated the night we were in there. I called the restaurant who admitted they had lied about it. Needless to say we will never buy Restaruant.com certificates again (we'll stick with Living Social and Groupon) and we won't go back in to that restaurant again.
