Rest days?

I recall one trip where I simply couldn't get out of bed (maybe day 3 or 4?) because of the schedule I had us on (and we had driven from MD, so it was more like day 5). It was spring break and we were up very early for the 8 a.m. emh, and I'm sure we stayed for fireworks every night. Everyone went to EPCOT without me and I met them there later :)

DH and I recently came back from a 9 night trip (first one without the kids). We only spend 3 days in the parks but they were toward the end of our trip. DH said he liked how relaxing the whole trip was but would like to have the last day be more relaxing on future trips.

In all of our many, many trips to WDW, we rarely had rest days with the kids. But I think the last day would probably be really nice to just enjoy the resort and have it feel like a "vacation" - we just never did it that way :).

It sounds like you have thought of some rest/easy time. With the new FP+, you can schedule them for the afternoon and, if you can make it to the opening to take advantage of the shorter lines, great!

All our previous trips we have never done a "rest day". Last trip my DS8 and DH were getting on my case because they were just getting run down. I am a go go go type of person and I don't like to rest but the rest of my family was just dying, lol. For our next trip in 2017 I am planning 1 rest day in the middle of the trip (adding on an extra day just for this rest day). We are planning to go walking around Disney Springs for a bit then have lunch at TREX then spending the afternoon swimming and possibly a late afternoon trail ride at Circle D (my older DS LOVES horses) followed by dinner at trails end and then the kids can play on the playground stuff there. Anyways its a more relaxing day but we are still doing stuff so I don't go nuts, LOL. I figure this is a good compromise lol.

That's the beauty of AP's, you don't feel like you are wasting days if you go for a couple hours in the morning or evening. I've gone late June and the mid-day heat can be brutal. I would take advantage of the early open park, then head back to the resort late morning when the huge crowds are coming in. Maybe head back out in the evening, you'll be right next to Epcot.

we never take rest days. We do go to RD every day and then generally depart the parks around 6/7 pm to go back and swim/ relax. DD (now age 16 but started going to the parks just after she turned 7) is an early to bed early to rise child so staying out late has never (other than the occasional Disney party) been an option. We rest when we go home - and make the most of our time at Disney in the parks but that's us

<<< no full rest days here. But we do go back to our room during the middle of the day to relax or catch a snooze and then head back out later.

If the trip is longer than 8 days, we plan 1 "rest" day. Our "rest" day on our last trip consisted of a DVC tour and afternoon at Disney Springs followed by resort hopping at night so it wasn't really resting.

But, we don't do parks open- close. We usually go to the parks from about 9am- 1pm then back to the resort for lunch/swimming/naps from 2pm- 6pm and then back to the parks at night. This plan works really well for us with smaller children.

I think BC is the best resort for planning rest days or "free days" as I call them. We are going to BC at the end of May and I have 1 free day planned. We have Beaches N Cream lunch ADR, plan to stay at the pool most of the day, then in the evening go to Disney Springs for dinner and maybe a movie.

Because you have APs you can easily walk to EPCOT for lunch or dinner. We do that a lot on free days and just stroll a little in World Showcase without doing any rides and head back to BC.

Take two days for waterparks and one day for nada.

During nada a few fruity drinks and ice cream every couple of hours should do it.

We go for 11 days every time we go and we take a day at the mid point to sit back and recharge. We tour different resorts, go to Disney Springs, etc. or just hang out at the pool. Then during the night, we hang out at the resort

Last year, we had 11 full days at the resort and 10-day park hoppers. We took the middle 6th day as our 1 rest day. Even though we took breaks every afternoon to rest/swim, we felt that it wasn't enough. (Blistered/tired tootsies need some true down time.) So this year, we've purchased the 10-day hoppers again, but will extend out Poly stay as well to 14 full days.

So, our arrival day will be our first rest day, as we'll be driving for 2 full days, followed by 3 park days + 1 rest day + 2 park days + 1 rest day + 3 park days + 1 rest day + 2 park days + departure day.

I'm anticipating more down time will allow us to rejuvenate for park day fun!

In your case, since you have annual passes, I'd be inclined to take some similar time off from the parks too. I'm serious about the feet thing. Last year, although I prepped myself with good walking footwear/socks/body glide, in addition to the mole skin and blister pads, my feet would have really appreciated a few extra days not pounding the pavement.
We missed illuminations bc while we were eating at Garden Grill (5pm) my son asked if we could just leave Epcot and go back to the volcano slide. So we did :)
