Resorts getting rid of comforters

We were at OKW and ssr 2 weeks ago. I like it. It seemed nice and clean and was plenty warm enough ( I get cold easily).

Sadly many opinions on whether something is good or bad for us, is media driven.

I seriously doubt anyone became ill from a hotel bed comforter.

People just seem to really freak about things, I mean there are so many other areas one comes in contact with on vacation that are more dangerous; as to germs, than a bedspread.

I was fine with the bedspreads, we did not sleep under it, as they were too heavy, but I have napped on them many time and lived to share it here.

Triple sheeting is fine too, if you are cold turn down that air conditioning everyone runs at frigid temps. :)

I think we're having a terminology issue here. :)

This is a comforter. It's big and fluffy and stuffed with down or fiberfill. It's meant to cover you while you sleep. Not generally found in hotels.

Down comforter

This is a bedspread. It's a thin, decorative bed covering, usually with a plain white polyester backing. It's meant to be used as a decoration, and removed from the bed or folded down before sleeping. Traditionally used in hotels in the past, now it's more common to see duvets or triple sheeted blankets as they are easier to launder.

All-Star Movies bedspread

I've never slept under a bedspread, at home or in a hotel. I'd always heard that they were only for decoration, and you took them off and slept under the sheet and blanket.

Are we discussing comforters or bedspreads? I don't recall ever staying a DVC resort with comforters.

I still prefer not to have bedspread that hasn't been washed "forever" put on top of the pillow where I will put my face. I don't want my pillow to smell like perfume, smoke, perspiration, and dust from the last several hundred people who slept in that bed. I don't want something that's been thrown on floor hundreds of times to be plopped on top of what should be fresh, clean bedding.

It's not about becoming ill or not becoming ill. Heck, we might not get ill even if the hotel sheets were only washed once a year. But that still wouldn't make it a good idea.

Yes, I know I'm being overly dramatic.

However, I am glad that hotel beds have improved greatly in the past decade, with better mattresses, higher quality sheets, and are greater commitment to cleanliness. I'm glad Disney and DVC have joined this revolution.

At least you only napped on the bedspread. Who knows what other people did on it?

Am at Boardwalk right now. I'm fine with triple sheeting but a friend is on the pullout and it would be nice to have a blanket for that.

I never got that life lesson. If something is on a bed that is useful to me, I figure it's there for a reason. I did sleep with bedspreads on the bed. I folded the sheet over the top of it, because "ew", but it was still a part of the sleeping experience for me.

Look in the closet.

Now see, I could never ever sleep on a pillow others have slept on, so we all have things that gross us out I guess. I travel with my own, just like my own toothbrush.

As to what was done on those comforters, I hear that also happens on the rides, and I know they don't get clean.

Rats are animals, just like squirrels and rabbits. Both are rodents that exist in the wild. When humankind build and encroach in a wilderness area, expect them. My cats bring me one as a present now and then here in Texas, and I often see them running around outside. Disney was originally a swampy, watery, wilderness area. There are occasionally Florida Panthers in the area between Ft. Wilderness and the MK resorts. Alligators are also common on Disney property.

Personally, I liked the comforters, too. But they've been or are being removed at all Disney resorts, partly because of all the consumer advocate exposés of dirty hotel comforters. The new bedding is called triple sheeting, and is used by most major hotels now.

Housekeeping, well, that is a human factor...mistakes happen.

Florida Panther sightings - since Florida panthers are an endangered species, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission would appreciate a report of any sightings - they are very rare. Especially if seen as far north in Florida as Disney property. Pictures can be uploaded to their site as well.

As far as bed coverings - I like the weight of a quilt - Where's Horace to explain what a quilt is - while sleeping so I've been traveling with my own small quilts for years and years. I've never been able to stand the huge comforters- they are usually too big and unwieldy just to get them out of the way in the room and I like a cool sleeping space. So glad to see them go! Scarf, no scarf - could care less!

To be perfectly honest about it, I would love to be able to buy the used bedspreads (and decorative pillows) from AKL, along with the old dishes they used to have, and of course, my very favorite is the sheers on the patio doors. I check eBay sporadically for this. If I had them at home, I could be sure that they were cleaned regularly.

I loved those dishes. The changes in bedding are fine, I personally had no problem with the bedspreads, but the plain white dishes are so boring.

It definitely can be confusing, then throw into the conversation duvets, and duvet covers. To me a bedspread goes to the floor and does not have a bed skirt/dust ruffle. If it was short, not floor length we always called them comforters regardless of what they were made of or filling.

The primary difference between a bedspread and a comforter is coverage. A bedspread is usually designed to cover the entire bed, up over the pillows, and down to the floor. Whereas a comforter is smaller, designed to just cover the top of the bed and barely past the box springs, and is accompanied by matching decorative pillow shams and often a bed skirt.

We did. The playpen, vacuum, etc. but no blanket, just the sheets.

Is it in the little nook where they tuck the pillows in the sleeper? I know we've had them placed in there before.

Otherwise I hope you called housekeeping for one.

I liked the Fiestaware dishes from OKW, these new plain white dishes are not as "usable." The cereal bowls are smaller, and you can only microwave a small portion of oatmeal in them for breakfast rather than the full portion you could cook in the larger Fiestaware bowls. And you're right, the plain white color is just boring and generic. When I drive, I bring my own cereal bowls.

I did like the bedspreads better than the triple sheeting, but it's OK. I have a heating pad that packs easily for the late fall and winter trips.

We stayed at OKW last July for our 18th Wedding Anniversary and we just asked for a blanket. DH and I were ok with that. Of course I like to keep the air condition on high. So we just snuggle longer.:yay:

I also miss the cool dishes at AKV and the Fiestaware at BWV. :sad2:

Keep checking Ebay! We have the sheers from AKL in our MBR, and we bought them off Ebay several years ago.

When we were at BWV in December, there were a total of 3 blankets. One was already on the pull out bed, one was on the king size bed in the bedroom, and one was in the closet. My son used two blankets on his bed.

I don't trust that the sheets are clean if already on the pull out. When I leave, I take everything off the pull out. But, my son was already asleep when I asked where they found the sheets for his bed.
