Resorts for Children

What do you recommend to be best resort for a for year Olds first visit?

IMO, any resort that appeals to you would be a great fit. All Disney resorts (deluxe, moderate, & value) are kid friendly, it just depends what theme/decor, amenities, etc you want. The deluxe resorts offer the most as far as amenities (transportation options, dining options, etc). The moderates are middle of the road with a few extra amenities over the values, but not as much as deluxe. Both deluxe and moderate resort pools have a slide, whereas value pools do not. Value resorts have the smallest rooms, with mods a little larger and deluxes having the largest. I would look at pics/amenities of all the resorts that appeal to you and see which one you like best. Good luck :).

Art of Animation is a over the top visual experience that kids often love. But it's also not relaxing, as there is almost constant stimulation, just walking around. The suites are nice but the standard rooms are tiny and have only double beds. That alone means we won't stay in them for more than 1 night if we arrive VERY late.
I love Port Orleans Riverside for overall price, location and appearance. Queen beds, pull down Murphy beds or Princess decorated Royal rooms. Fun pool. Quieter than your Value rooms, bigger too.
For Deluxe, it's hard to beat AKL for animals right outside the door or WL for peacefulness. Both of those are on the lower price range of the Deluxe resorts and are good choices.
CR is always a hit with kids, with the monorail running right in the middle.

Though it's hard to go wrong with any of them. All are geared to kids and families, obviously.

We will be taking our son next year and he will be 1.5. I picked Coronado Springs, hoping it isn't terribly overwhelming for him.

The best resort for children is one that is within their parent's budget. The kid is at Disney and will enjoy any resort.

I could not agree with this enough. Any kid will enjoy which ever resort you decide on. Kids are just happy to be there and on their first visit they will have nothing to compare it with. If you want to spend the extra and get a deluxe resort because that is what you want then go for it. You are the adults and should decided on what fits your needs the most.

One that is near so you can get an afternoon splash in the pool without spending ages on transport. And within your budget of course. WL is lovely if I were a kid I would like that. Budget AoA, Mod POR . But heck they are all Disney your kid can't loose!

This will be our second WDW trip and we chose ASMovies. He's at that super fun age where he knows more characters than the fab 5 and is very excited about the 101 Dalmatians and Toy Story sections! We first had reservations at POFQ but after he saw the pictures of ASMo, we switched for his excitement.

Exactly. I doubt a 1-yr old will notice the difference. Now if the question was about convenience for moving around with a 1yo then the Contemporary fits the bill pretty well.

Yes indeed. Kids in that age group could care less. My grandson will be going for the first time next year, he will be two years old. We are probably going to be staying at AS Movies and I know he will enjoy the huge icons they offer.

Honestly any Disney resort appeals to kids of that age, LOL. Kids that age are just so easy to please...they see anything with Mickey and Minnie and they are are all into it, lol. I will say we stayed at the Contemporary for our first Disney hotel and my oldest son thought the coolest thing about that hotel was that the monorail ran through it, lol. The next disney Hotel we stayed at was Grand Floridian and my oldest son just thought we were awesome bc we were staying at the ritziest disney hotel, LOL. Now next year it was extremely hard to decide on a hotel to stay at bc we decided that we didn't "need" a monorail resort so it took us like weeks to decide which resort we wanted, and my youngest is now 3 so he got to weigh in his resort choice. Animal Kingdom Lodge won out though bc thats the only hotel with giraffes lol and it was agreed upon by everyone, lol...I took both my kids in separate rooms and got their opinions (once we narrowed the hotel choices down to 2 resorts). It was between Wilderness Lodge & Animal Kingdom. Both kids chose Animal Kingdom. The shocker was my older son (he's 9) said he wanted to stay at Animal Kingdom bc it has giraffes and his brother loves giraffes. Anyways I think any Disney resort would be good for that age, but if you get to the point of where we were at where it was between 2 choices than have your 4yr old look at pictures of both resorts and then weigh in where they would rather stay. Of course this is my kids like millionth time to Disney so its kind of old news planning a trip for us. Not sure if you want it to be a surprise or not bc a lot of people do that but if thats the case then which ever hotel you choose your 4yr old will love no matter what!

For a one-year old? Any resort that makes it easier for the parents to vacation with a one-year old. I'm completely serious. My DS8 has stayed in all levels of WDW (and non-WDW hotels) since he was one and has loved them all. When he was younger, one of his biggest thrills was simply walking the pathways at Poly. He could have been ANYWHERE! LOL! When he was younger, staying at a monorail resort or an EP resort cut down on bus transportation which meant less folding of strollers - hurray!! The more amenities the easier for mom and dad and better vacation for all!

We took our twins to Disney lots of times as babies. Believe me, at age 1 they are happy anywhere. The most important thing is to choose a resort where you adults are happy; i.e., a comfortable bed, relaxing atmosphere, and easy transportation to parks.

I can tell you our favorite resort when our twins were age 1 -- Beach Club. There's a sandy-bottom shallow section of the pool that babies LOVE. At least ours did. Our favorite thing to do was walk to Epcot and around the boardwalk at night with the babies in the stroller, usually sleeping! It was wonderful....if we were hungry, we'd stop by a restaurant in Epcot where we could keep the stroller at our table and we'd have a nice quiet meal. Also, the loop around the boardwalk is a great area for kids just learning to walk. We'd take afternoon breaks just to let our kids practice walking -- we have such special memories of those times. Best of all is you can walk to Epcot and HS from Beach Club. So no worries about unloading and folding up a stroller for transportation to parks. When going to MK, we used to walk through Epcot to get to the monorail (so we could just roll the stroller right on). It's the long way there, but we found it peaceful and relaxing.

Also consider Contemporary for the walking path to MK. Just push the stroller back and forth, nothing is easier in terms of Disney transportation.

We stayed at CS last year with the kiddos, they loved the pool and playground. I think they're just happy to be at Disney.

DD was 4 on our first trip and we stayed at OKW (borrowed points from a relative). She loved the pool and the buses and the boat to DS. Honestly, kids are so easy to please, any resort will work.
