Hello to all,

We're beginning our 8-day vacation plan for a family of 5 (3 kids 9,5,3yrs) and must decide between 8 nites at AKL or 4 nites there and 4 nites at the Polinesian (in order to be closer to MK and avoid the long haul). With 3 kids (all girls) we're planning on spending several days at MK.
Any comments and suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks

I don't mind sharing resorts at all, but I only have one child & he is older (16) and packs himself.

My comment is that I will move our bags myself this trip instead of letting Disney move them (which we have done in the past) I will use a cab or towncar to do this as we don't rent a car during our stays (I hate driving on vacation). Disney will move them & it is fine, but I don't like to be without my things for an indefinate time. One of my friends got stuck without her things from 10am til 6pm, which made dressing for her dinner PS difficult....

DH and I resort hop all the time and just love it. How smooth the transition will be depends on a few things. Do you completely unpack? For the most part, we live out of the suitcase and only hang a few things. I leave a train case on the bathroom vanity and everything stays in it. Getting things ready on the morning of our switch is a breeze for us. Also, we do not plan to be in the parks on that day. We use that day to lounge at the pool for an hour or so, visit resorts, ride both monorail loops, rent boats at FW, with sit down PS for both lunch and dinner at other resorts, etc. If it takes you a while to repack and you have plans to visit the parks, it can still work, but it will cut into your time.

DS & I will be moving from the Wilderness Lodge after 3nights to the Beach Club Villas for 6nights.
That last day at WL is a pool/resort/etc day so I'll plan some time that night to repack us.
The day we move Im planning on a boat/bus to a park then changing to BC bus from there. We will check-in, spend time at EpCot, check on the room and back to EpCot. .

I think you should switch resorts. It is way cool to stay at two completely different resorts! and AKL and the Poly are very different. Just pack up, call the bell hop and let them know to take your stuff over to the Poly (or vis a versa). you may want to cary a bag with you, just in case you need to brush your teeth or the girls need something. if you are like me I have a bag with me anyway for all that just in case stuff you need with kids! Have a great trip!

I think that splitting your stay would be worthwhile. There are so many bonuses to it -- the experience of staying at more than one resort, the changing of location to suit your park visiting needs, etc. just to name a few. And for 8 nights, I don't think it would be a hassle at all. We've done split stays and never regretted it.

Plus, Disney makes it so easy with transfering your luggage. Go for it and enjoy these two beautiful resorts!

Welcome to the DIS, LloydFamily!

Just one consideration with the switch. You could be without a room for a portion of the day, so if your 3 year old needs a nap, that could be difficult.

One thing you may want to consider is to pack your suit cases so that you don't even have to open some of them until you make it to the second resort. When I split stays, I always do that, and it makes things a bit easier. That could be a huge help for a family of five.

Have a great time planning!

I agree with you. I'm going on 4/27 to 5/4 and I splitting my stay between AKL and the Poly. First off it makes the vaction a little cheaper for me. I could only swing 4 days at the Poly and I always wanted to check out AKL. On the plus side, I get to look forward to staying at the Poly for the last part of the trip. Volcano pool and Ohana's here I come! :cool1:
