Resort parking question. Is this ok or flameworthy?

Thanks marriedatWDW for letting me think I was not the only one to ever be able to valet park at the resorts all day. I was beginning to think quite highly of myself! ;) Just for the record, when we left our car , we have always had a meal at the resort and then went to the park. I am sorry to hear that the valet parking lots do fill up, but again, it is up to the management to decide who parks where, not the guests. You would think if the lot was reaching capacity they would make sure only guests were using the valet. I agree with brettb's solution to the whole valet anquish thing!

Just for the record -- valet parking doesn't necessarily mean fewer door dings. We valet parked our rental van at Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu. The next morning when it was retrieved for us, it had a huge (and I mean huge) dent all the way down the side nearly from the front to the back. It looked like the valet had hit the side of a wall and just kept driving. There was, unfortunately, no way to prove that valet parking was responsible. I've been very wary of valet parking anywhere ever since.

You are definitely correct. While valet parking my brand new car at the Grand Floridian the CM marked on the seat with an ink pen they use to fill out the valet tickets. He still had it in his hand when he got ready to sit down and it made a huge mark across the edge of the sit. :sad2:

This is my take on valet parking if you are not staying at the resort.

As stated it is up to the staff to determine when or if to turn away a nonresort guest. If I am staying at the Grand Floridian and paying the high rate they demand, I am better be assured of valet parking. If not I have a problem with them not those taking up the spaces.

If they tell me they are full, I will simply tell them unless all of the spaces are full of guests staying at this resort, then find a place for my car at their expense.

This may be a stupid question, but I've never valet parked my car, mainly because I'm uninformed. When tipping, do you tip the person that parks your car and the person that retrieves it? How much do you tip?

We're cheap. We only tip on pick-up and then only $2. Quite often the valet will be going out to the parking lot with my car and picking up someone else's car to drive back. If it's raining, I'll tip a bit more and on drop-off just in case s/he needs to run back in the rain.

ETA: I have also left my car in a valet parking space and gone into one of the parks after a meal at the resort.

Yes, but if you do get your car damaged while a guest with valet at the Disney resort, the resort will take care of it and you won't have to. My husband's car was brand new when we took it one trip to the YC. It got damaged while in the car of the valet and they told us about it and apologized. The management of the hotel had us get an estimate to have it fixed and then sent us a check to cover the costs!
