I have a rather stupid question....so I apologize if this sounds really dumb!
Last year I was staying at Coronado Springs. Will again at the end of april.
Now...last year the boom gate (is this the right word? sorry for my english) to the parking lot which goes all around the property was open all day every day...with one exception. One day when I returned to the resort it was closed. Now I didn't really know what to do since there is no staff there. Are there cameras where they can see a car is waiting to be let in? I first waved my kttwc in front of the little post (think there was a speaker or something in there) and waited like 2 minutes before the boom gate opened. All in all I felt a little stupid...anyone know what I should have done? Do I just hold up my parking permit or my kttw card?

there is a slot to put your card in on the machine that moves the arm. the gate will then open.

Really? Are you serious? There is a slot?
Now I feel like a complete idiot since I just saw the speaker or whatever it was on the machine and not the slot...oh my
Since it just happen one time I dodn't bother to ask someone either...but I figured I'd be better prepared this time ;-)

That is very unusual that the gate remained open, I've never seen that. Any resort I've stayed at the gate is closed. Yes, there is a slot to put your KTTW card in to open it :goodvibes

Now that they may be doing away with KTTW cards in favour of the RFID bracelets, I guess they'll have to put in a reader now at the gate?

If CSR has installed the RFID readers on the room doors, there is no slot now. The machine will have a RFID reader, so you just need to tap your KTTW card on it and the gate should open. When we were at the YC the last time, they had the new RFID system up and running and it worked pretty well, as long as you actually touched your card to the reader.

Wow, thanks! I think CSR switched to RFID locks...so now I know what to do. So weird, there are all those little things coming to my mind before I go. I#m so excited, want everything to be perfect and worry even about the smallest things!
And yes, the gates were open every day during my trip last year. The resort parking lot was absolutely empty during that week so I guess they didn't really care about who parked there.

Not so weird, we here are all focused on the minutiae of WDW!;)

I'm excited FOR you, I hope everything is perfect. Have a magical vacation.pixiedust:

We actually didn't need to touch the card to the reader at POR in Dec hubby could leave it in his wallet & tap it & door opened. I tried just taping it with my Dooney backpack in the area it was to the bag and that worked as well! Thought I'd let y'all know, keep you from having to dig your cards out each time!

A reader, such as what Disney uses, will read from any angle from those people who are not used to using digital cards.

though that at the main entrance there was ALWAYS a security guard.

so if you have the same problem just back up and go to the one w/sg
