Resort Parking fees for visitors!

A couple years ago, we booked a preferred room at POR in order to guarantee the pull down bed. There are only 4 of us, but no one wants to share a bed with my son (he kicks!!!). I haven't looked at the booking categories, but hopefully there is a way to book this type of room even if you have less than 5 people.

Disney doesn't bend on occupancy, ever, even if you ask nicely. Here are the options as I see them....

1. Have the two extra adults book their own room at POR for the two nights they will be there.

2. Change your POR reservation to a room for five, but let them know at the desk when you arrive that two of your guests will only be there for two nights. You'l still pay the higher rate for the room that sleeps five for your entire stay, but there's no need to pay extra adult fees on the nights they won't be there.

3. Assuming the two extra adults are coming at the beginning or end of your stay, book a split stay at POR. One reservation for a 5-person room for the nights your guests will be there, and a separate reservation for a 4-person room for the nights you won't have guests. This will require you to switch rooms, but you'll have to look at the rates and decide if the money saved will be worth the inconvenience.

You could consider another resort that sleeps five, but I'm guessing that POR will still be the most cost-effective option, even with the higher rate in 2019 for the five-person room.

Just wondering, hopefully someone can confirm, but if they have a package you would have to buy dining plan and tickets for those extra guests as well too wouldn’t you? So book the room for 5, but you’d be paying for the full package rate not just the extra nights?

Only if you add the extra guests to the room ahead of time. If you check in, and then tell the front desk you are expecting more people, you don't have to buy them the dining plan or the same tickets.

But then he runs the risk of getting a room that only sleeps four instead of the one that sleeps five.

And if your guests have a car (or two between them), they will pay for parking for the nights they are there.

But since the OP is traveling in 2019, and a 5th sleeper is a bookable option at POR in 2019, it would just be a matter of booking one of those rooms. Then they can have a guaranty of a room that accommodates 5 when the extra guests arrive. Just add them to the room for the nights that they will be there and pay for parking those nights. The room costs more than a standard room, but just like everything else Disney does, if they find something that people specifically request often enough, they will find a way to charge for it.

Thank you for these options. They will probably be coming in the middle of our stay. I'm thinking they just need to find an alternate sleeping location. You guys are great. Thank you!

I would much rather be able to book a room with the sleeper than hope I am lucky enough to get one.

With so many variables to consider I believe this is the most worry/hassle free plan.

It is a vacation after all, keep the unnecessary stress to a minimum. ;)

After talking to my TA, she says that we can add them to the full stay and pay the extra for them. Then when we check in we can let the resort know that they will only be staying with us for two nights and Disney will refund the rest. That way we are guaranteed to get a room with an occupancy of 5. I just want her to confirm that Disney will believe us and refund us. Has anyone done this before? Had a member of your party originally scheduled and it changes and Disney refunded you?

I’ve never heard of that. I’m pretty sure you should just book the room for 5 and that way you’ll have what you need. You won’t be able to add 2 more people if you’re booked in a room that sleeps 4, anyway.

KEEP IT SIMPLE :thumbsup2

2019
5th Sleeper room is bookable category
Just book it, maybe $12-15 a night to guarantee that bunk
Add them when they arrive for the two nights plus car
Pay only those nights for extra adults and parking

OR

Once they are ready let them book wherever they want
Onsite or offsite
Meet you at parks or restaurant etc

AND

Connect with them via Friends & Family
If or once they have tickets
YOU can book their FP+ at 60 days along with yours
No matter where they stay, on or off property

Yeah but I just don't want to be out that extra money if they are only going to stay for 2 nights. My TA said they will do that so I will verify that before she changes it.

The issue is I have booked a special deal with this TA and it's for just the standard room so changing to the actual one with the 5th sleeper isn't an option I don't think.

Never heard of it and don't see how a TA can guarantee that. Honestly, I don't think you have any guarantee until you arrive and find out at the hotel.

I don't think you answered but did you get the Dining Plan and/or package too? That complicates it.

So if you can't change to a sleeper room then they can't add the extra folks to your reservation ....
.... so you don't have to worry about the refund.

The problem I see is now you are waiting until arrival to see if you can upgrade to a sleeper room and if they can't (it's a very popular resort and the sleepers are VERY popular rooms) then she has no room to stay in and you'll be trying to find one with with days notice. I don't think I'd take that risk.

She says she will be able to add them to the room because their package is room only and the tickets are separate. No dining plans. And if we book 5 in a room, even if the booking is only a standard room, wouldn't they have to put us in one of the rooms with the 5th sleeper? I'm not trying to get over by any means at all on Disney. I'm just trying to figure out the most economic options. I appreciate the input from you all!

No. Disney wants more money for those rooms, so in 2019 the standard rooms with a 5th bed are a bookable category at POR and not simply a room request. You would have to actually book that room. If you were to try to put 5 on the reservation, your option would default to that booking category and you will pay the increased price.
