Resort parking fees are pretty much on the honor system, according to a CM

That's bizarre. But was he refusing to show ID to the guard? One has always needed (at least since 2010) to show *something* to show them who you are when you enter.

The guard asked if he was at staying at BC and he said no. The guard was turning him away, until I said I was staying there. Not sure, what year the trip was, but I'd say 2008 - 2012 time period. I'm trying to remember ages of grandkids.

I’m confused. Are you reporting an event that happened 6-10 years ago or recently

Well, following that logic, you shouldn't have to pay anything at all.

Guest is just a nice way of saying customer.

FCDub...
I understand, but you get my point.

Parking Fee is just another way of saying 'we are going to charge you more because we can and you will pay it'. Or...'we don't want to add this charge to the actual room, so we'll add it to your vehicle'.

:rolleyes2

Not really, the parking fee is only for those guests that take advantage of on-site parking. So think of it as a pay for use fee, don't use it and then you don't pay for it.

I always wonder when they will start charging for ME from / to the Airport.

We stayed in New Orleans recently. In addition to our room rate, we were charged for parking a vehicle.

We were not charged tho we drove in, checked then re checked our reservation at gate. Don’t recall at CM desk if she asked but they must have.. we parked at main lot POR for the entire visitor

We checked out of AKL on Tuesday. We went down to settle our bill ($3 for a bottle of water at Typhoon Lagoon :rotfl:) and said we also needed to pay for parking. The cast member said we don't owe anything and that he didn't see any charge for parking :confused3 I keep checking the bank account to see if they already charged it, or if it hasn't hit yet...Weird.

We just stayed at Yacht Club last week. We were never asked if we drove and would have a car on property, but the parking fee showed up on our bill.
This is what I'm expecting to happen. Hopefully they don't charge everyone and rely on guests to check their bills.

Exactly, I am actually more surprised now when I come across a hotel that does not charge for parking. Heck, back in 2001 when I drove to WDW solo, I was surprised I did not have to pay parking fees. It seemed that every other hotel I booked that year had a parking fee since I spent time in mid-size "big" cities. I do dislike that WDW went away from free parking for their self contained lots, but I just have to take into consideration the parking fee when I compare resorts onsite and offsite going forward.

I just got back from Dollywood’s Dream More resort on Wednesday, it puts the deluxe Disney resorts to shame. Also makes me realize the moderates and values are just motels. No parking fees there

IMHO they are not eager to do this, as the whole point of DME is to virtually ensure that guests spend all their money on property, rather than renting a car which allows easy access to more affordable stores and restaurants.

Yes, but that is Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Territory. I do not expect them to charge parking in many places there as there is too much competition, especially when you can rent a huge chalet for the same price. The only time I pay for parking in that area is for something like valet at Margaritaville.

Pigeon forge looked just like international drive in Orlando to me. They have a titanic museum that looks like the ship hitting the iceberg and wonderworks has an upside down building there and all the gimmicky stuff that’s right outside Disney’s door. I’ve never paid for parking at any hotels that are not in the heart of a major city

I don't drive to WDW, because, well, Canada... it's far lol

BUT I have noticed with hotels in general, it seems the more you pay, the more extra charges there are.

I stayed at a Coast Hotel recently for work - parking included, internet included, and free breakfast.

Just stayed at the Fairmont - charge for parking, charge for internet, charge for breakfast.

I just always find that amusing since the Fairmont room was about 6 time the price of the Coast Hotel one.

i always thought it was amazing they didnt charge for parking, but when i was in the area for other reasons it was a big incentive to drop by. its not weird to me they do charge for parking now though. all hotels in major cities do. hotels in suburbs dont, but its always a pesky fee i look for when booking "downtown" business area hotels. i know disney isnt a business area hotel, but its an industry standard. anyway..

I tend to avoid the touristy areas of the Smokies. As soon as I can, I hit backroads to get around. The build up has been insane over the past 30 years.

As for only paying for parking in the heart of a city, for the most part that is true in many areas of the country, but the trend for paying for parking in some outskirts of cities has increased. Even before WDW started charging, many resorts in the Orlando area already charged. We stayed at a resort in Lake Buena Visita before a cruise and they charged for parking.

absolutly, I just hate the trend, but the industry is definitely trying to push this to be the norm. I find it funny when I see a highway exit hotel listing free parking as an amenity.
