I saved huge amounts of money by refusing to purchase most of the non-distinctive merchandise. On our trip to WDW, we bought: 1 lb. Kona coffee; one cookbook; two Disney t-shirts at the parks (gifts); and one non-Disney t-shirt at DTD.

I miss the resort stuff. I miss the WDW stuff (as opposed to "Disney Parks").

But I have stopped wasting so much money on Disney stuff.

I can't see why people aren't happy about the non-resort specific merchandise.

Can't you be happy that you get to keep /save more of your own money instead of leaving so much money at Disney World?

I think for many people part of a vacation is bringing home a mug, t-shirt, magnet, or pen from their trip. It's done at tourist venues all around the world. I have mugs from London, t-shirts from Hershey Park, magnets from the Smithsonian, and so on. I also have an All-Star Music Resort magnet, a POFQ hoodie, etc. I'd like to get more things from the resorts that I've vacationed at. I think many people feel the same way.

A few trips back there was a lot of Disney doll things that had Disneyland theming on it; some even said, "Disneyland". I am at Disney WORLD, and want to buy things that say, Disney World". Same would be true as if I was at Disneyland.

I understand they can cut costs by making generic "Disney Parks" items, but I really want something specific to the park I am at. Same is true for resort-specific items.

I'm not a regular here on the Unplugged, so I'm curious as to what is the email everyone is talking about?

Pete, the host of the DIS Unplugged weekly podcast shared that all should email Thomas Skaggs from Disney to complain about the decline in resort specific merchandise in hopes that if enough people complain, there might be a reconsideration. The email that seems to be working is tom.skaggs@disney.com

Wow! What did your reply say? Did it sound like an automated reponse?

It didn't sound automated, but it did sound canned. "Thank you for your interest", etc. He did say that they are "exploring opportunities to reintroduce resort-specific merchandise over the next year" at BWI, BWV, and FW. He said that they have merchandise at GF and AKL (can anyone confirm this?).

So, buy it when you see it!
