Do you have any memories of Disney resorts that are now history?

Let's share for fun!

I'll start!

I remember when the GF had real towels instead of paper towels in the public washrooms off the lobby.

Remember the resort 'atlas' given out when you checked into the Beach Club? It had every room number on every floor listed! So convenient!

Also remember the glass trees in the CR? They were cool! How about the 'Dixie cup' trees out front?

What memories would you like to remember fondly?

If you could bring one thing back, what would it be?

I remember when the Ladies Room of the Lobby in the Beach Club also had cloth hand towels instead of paper.
I remember the original Fleetwood Travel Trailers at FW. The preceeded todays Cabins and were located near Pioneer Hall. We stayed in them our first visit as a family. At that time it was the most economical choice, as even the Moderates hadn't been built yet.
I remember the Top of the World dinner show in what is now California Grille at the CR
I remember the "Gold Key Card" vacation package. It was truly all inclusive and a magic key to the world. We enjoyed that vacation immensely
I remember the Fairway Villas at what is now SSR. We loved those as well as the Original Treehouse Villas.

As an aside, I hope this nice thread doesn't turn in to just remembering lower prices at WDW. There were lower prices everywhere in the past. That is the world we live in. JMHO

One of the things I miss most is the old décor at the GF, where different buildings had unique décor. Alice in Wonderland in Big Pine and Conch; Cameo in main building and Sugar Loaf; Wind in the Willows in Sago; and, my favorite, in Boca Chica, was Floral :cloud9:

ALSO

Miss the views from Polynesian Hawaii building.

Swimming and jumping off the floating platform at the POLY. The egg shaped chairs in the room at CR. Customer service!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: It took me awhile but I had to find a pic of those chairs. My sister and BIL took me when I was 12 and she has a picture of me and my nephew sitting in them. Being a kid from Detroit I thought these were the coolest:rotfl2: I won't even go into what I thought the 1st time I saw the monorail come "inside" the hotel. Awww memories:)

I remember the first time we ever went to disney in 1996 on our honeymoon and having the "Grand Plan" at GF. We had 3 sit down meals and lots of snacks, golfing which we did at the Palms, watercraft which we rented Searacers, private dining, park tix, etc.

Those were the days. We enjoyed everything.

I believe we went to GF on this plan when I was a teenager. My mom had some kind of deal through her credit union that enabled us to stay at GF. It was fantastic!

I remember before the Boardwalk was built. On our first trip to Disney we stayed at the Dolphin. Back then the Beach/Yacht club was under construction and hadn’t open yet. They use to have these trams that would take you from the Swan/Dolphin to the international gateway. On our next trip (about 4 years later) we stayed at the Beach club and the trams are gone. However, even today when we walk back the old stations/platforms near the entrance to Epcot, my mom and I always go “remember those trams they used to have.” Not necessarily something needed, but it was a nice perk and much faster than the boat.

I remember staying in the east wing of the Contemporary. BLT is there now. We also stayed there when MK was the only park and GF hadn't been built yet. I remember taking a tram out of the International Gateway to see the future Epcot resort area, which was mostly a bunch of walls with posters on them.

The North Wing rooms at the CR were our Go To's back in the late 90's to post 9/11. I remember snagging those rooms on a GA resident rate of $129 and the WL rooms were $99. What was so great about the North Wing was you could get a ground floor room and sit on your patio while the kids played on the playground. The good old days!

Bonfammile's (sp?) at French Quarter
Zippity Doo Da drinks at "Dixie Landings"
Breakfast at Boatwrights

And don't forget the Club Lake Villas that surrounded the lake where SSR is now.

We stayed in them on three trips to WDW.
As I recall a 1 bedroom suite was around $75.00.
