For those of you who have resort hopped, I read here that Disney will transfer your bags for you, between resorts, free of charge. Just wanted to confirm that all I would need to do is bring my bags down to Bell Services, let them know where I am headed, and they take care of the rest? Would I pick up my bags at Bell Services at the new resort? I know it would take some time for the bags to arrive, but say I were to check out at 11am, would my bags be at the new resort for check-in by 4pm?

Just trying to get a gauge of the timeline and what to expect. It sounds easy enough… I hope it is! We won't have a car.

We booked our AoA resort package, for this November, at the beginning of this year. We ended up choosing flights for the day before d/t pricing. AoA doesn"t have any availability for that first night--so we made a reservation at PoP for our arrival night. I told the reservation cast member that we would just walk across the bridge to AoA and she laughed at me!! She said that they were not about to have us walk across the bridge pulling our luggage--that is what bell services is there for!! :-) So it sounds like it's their policy.

Yes they will do it for you.
One other option, when we did a split stay we took a taxi and moved it ourselves. It cost $20 and we were lucky enough to have our room ready early so our luggage went right in and everything was all set when we returned from the park that day.
I didn't want to leave everything with bell services in case we came back earlier than our luggage arrived and wanted to get to it for swimsuits and electronic equipment.

On move day:
Call Bell Services and have them come pick-up your luggage and refrigerated items. Be sure to inform them that you have items to keep cold.
Tell them where you are transferring too.
Check-in to your new resort.
Go do whatever you want that day.
After getting your room text and you are back in it (items are not at your new resort until 2 - 4 PM), call Bell Services to have the items delivered to your room.
NOTE: You must be in the room for the pick-up and delivery.
If you want to go straight to the parks and not go to the resort first to check-in and not get the text, yes you can do that.

If you do online check-in and sign up for the text message, you SHOULD receive it without going to the resort.

Just wanted to add one thing to what com_op_2000 posted: Whenever you use Bell Services, it is customary to tip. There is no charge for transferring your bags between resorts, but the CMs who carry your items back and forth will be expecting a tip.

As an alternate 1st step, I would call or stop by bell services day(s) before you leave and "reserve" the pickup time from the old room.

Thank you all for the great tips and advice!

So they can transfer cold items and attempt to keep them cold? I assumed that we would have to finish up our cold items before the move (which we'd likely still do anyway).

Yes, they can and will keep them cold.

There are both refrigerators and freezers available in the luggage rooms. You need to point out which bags are which. Be sure to save your grocery bags when you unpack from your initial grocery run. We keep some of the cloth re-usable grocery bags in our owner's locker just for these transfers.

When transferring luggage, we'll typically tip both the person who picks up the bags in the first room, and the person who delivers them to the new room.

Be sure you realize that you may not get your luggage until past 5pm! I have had Disney move my bags about 10 times....not once have I had my bags at the new resort until well past checkin time. I even had one instance where the new resort (POR) had to make multiple calls to the old resort (BCV) before they got around to bringing the bags over...finally got to POR around 5:30-6! At WL, they managed to lose them....still think that the bags hadn't arrived (it was 3:30!), so they just told me they were lost. They were there an hour or so later.
Now I take a cab, with my luggage, first thing in the morning.

We resort hopped 3 times in one trip with 9 people. Bell services was great at each resort. We had a ton of stuff and they never missed a beat!!!

We used this service once as we were a party of 9 and was changing resorts. It all worked well. We actually made our arrangements the night before after asking the bell service how to handle it. You tip on both ends since the luggage is handled by two different sets of handlers. Once the luggage is received they will not deliver until you get your room and call them to have them delivered -- you must be in your room. We had a lot to move so tip $40 for the move ($20 on each side).
