DH & I are planning a trip for September 6-11, 2021. DH has never been to WDW. We are in our late 40's. DH is all about saving money & says the values are fine because he's a penny pincher. We are currently staying at ASMo. I'm looking to upgrade & can't decide between CSR tower room, WL, CCR studio, or AKL Kidani studio.

I would choose CSR Gran Destino Tower for the following reasons:
  1. It's new and beautiful. Probably the closest you will come to deluxe in a Moderate Resort.
  2. WL and AKV do not have opening dates as of yet. That means that dining and some amenities are not available, even though DVC rooms are open at both resorts.
  3. The Dig Site pool is not only beautiful, but it is laid out nicely and has a great slide.

Wilderness Lodge has a June 6 opening date. OP is going in September.

Of those options, I would also go with a CSR tower room. I think a Moderate hotel option would be most likely to make you both happy, which is important, especially if you want to get him back to WDW anytime in the future. The tower rooms feel more like a Deluxe resort, and the dining/bar options are great for an adults-only trip.

The one drawback is the bus system at CSR. I'm sure you've heard there are many interior bus stops, which can slow things down a bit. When we stayed there, we didn't find it too bad, but if it gets to you, think about using Uber/Lyft. Luckily, CSR is the most centrally located to the four parks of all the resorts, which is nice.

I've had stayed at all those resorts except WL, which is on my bucket list.
We tend to end up at Coronado often due to the great deals that come around. The resort is just as beautiful as the deluxe resorts.

Where are you planning to spend the most time, theme parks or resort?

The GDT Tower is great but can be very busy due to it's location at CSR. CSR only has bus transportation from Disney.

The WL has bus and boat (MK) transportation and it is easy to reach the other MK resorts for dining or visiting. The WL has a much quieter vibe.

CCV is the South wing of the WL so it really comes down to pricing CCV vs WL regular resort rooms for that location.

We will be spending about equal time at the parks & the resort. The pricing for CCV is about $350 cheaper than the regular WL room.

Hmm the prices for CCV and WL should be the same for a studio vs a Standard view that week.

That is if you are comparing similar rooms. They now have a King room as a booking category at the WL at $395 vs $390 for a 2Q room or a CCV Studio. If you want or need the kitchenette at the CCV for a Microwave and some more paper plates. I would go with the WL resort rooms as they will only have had 3 months of use by Sept.

Note: room rates are averaged since Friday nights are higher.

I would do the CCV studio. The studios are perfect for couples, IMHO and the CCV rooms are gorgeous! You also have the plus of being at WL (which is beautiful) and the boat to MK which is very convenient.

Gran Destino is lovely, but CSR is still a mod and doesn't compare to WL/CCV, IMHO.

I appreciate everyone's advice! We have decided to stay at CSR but didn't go with the tower rooms. DH didn't like the "hotel" feel. We went to Yellowstone last year so we decided to go with another theme than WL. My heart was set on Kidani but there was only standard views available. Thanks again
