Hello ! we will be traveling down to disneyworld in December 2017 (10-17)
There will be 6 adults and 9 children from ages 6 months to 9 years !!

We are having a hard time choosing a hotel to stay at.
the ones we have narrowed it down to are..

Port Orleans Riverside
Disney's Caribbean Beach
Disney's all start Movie

A few questions though.

1. If we stay at riverside can we go over to the French quarter to check out the resort and go swimming in their pools?

2. Which resort would have the most to do for the kids on our "relax" days?

3.Is there really much of an upgrade going from a Value resort to a Moderate?

4. Any reviews good/bad for any of those 3 resorts?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated !!

Riverside and French Quarter are sister resorts and so you are allowed to swim in the pool there. In my opinion, Riverside has the better pool. You can visit/tour any of the resorts on property.

Of the three you mention, we've only stayed at POR. We really liked it. The grounds are really nice, nice pool, and being able to ride the boat to Disney Springs was great.

We love the splash pad and pool at Caribbean Beach. I think it could be a great option for those age ranges!

The upgrade from Value to Mod:
  • in room coffee makers
  • queen beds (instead of doubles)
  • water slides at pools
  • table service restaurants at the resorts
  • ceiling fans in rooms
  • subtler landscaping

1. Yes

2. Both CBR and POR would have plenty to do for the kids, with CBR having an additional splash pad area that would be a bonus.

3. YES, IMO. Think Motel 6 vs. Holiday Inn.

4. If you can swing it, I'd throw the value off your list and focus on the mods. Don't forget to take a look at the food court offerings from each resort to see what might be a better fit for your eaters.

Of your list, I'd suggest POR unless there was a significant cost difference that made CBR cheaper.

You can use all the amenities at POFQ including their brand new kids splash area. You also have the option of taking a boat ride over to DS. Our biggest factors for Mods over values is queen beds vs full, 2 sinks vs 1, plus a little bigger room. We also think POR food court is one of the best if not the best of the Mods.

We really enjoyed our relax days at CBR! My daughter, age 5 at the time, would ask to leave the park and go back to swim. The pool is zero depth entry and has two slides. I'm not sure how much swimming you will be doing in December though

Sounds like your group would have plenty of activities to enjoy at Port Orleans. You can rent a bike to ride around and enjoy the scenery. You could even take the boat ride over to Disney springs from there.

Have fun!!!

thanks for the answers ! I think we are all leaning towards port orleans riverside !
i think we will throw the value resorts off of our lists !

I would go moderate. I've stayed at both CBR and POR and I prefer CBR. I like the theme and pool much better. The rooms at CBR are very nice, they have queen beds, some have trundle beds to sleep 5 and I love the wooden door dividers for the bathroom area. The pool at CBR and splash area is amazing, kids would love it.

I was not impressed with POR when I stayed there in 09/2015. It was ok but I like CBR better.

Does anybody happen to know if they usually offer free meal plans or any discounts in December ?

I will add that some rooms at POR also have trundle beds. And agree with the excellent food court too.

We're excited for our upcoming trip to CBR due to the great kiddie pool/splash area as well as the zero entry main pool! I really wanted to stay at POR but I figured our son would enjoy the pools at CBR a little bit more.
