After returning from a grand gathering trip in Feb., I joked to my mother that I would love to come back with no kids. Well....we decided, why not? DH isn't into another trip, but mom and I have Disney fever. We need some help in picking a resort. I have been to WL and AKL, mom has been to AKL. We are looking for someplace different this time. Mom is in her 60's and has occasional problems with her feet - not too serious, but I want to avoid large resorts with lots of walking - there's enough of that in the parks! We would use Disney transportation, but without kids, we won't be in such a rush and may even sleep in :earsboy: Looking for quiet, relaxing, good restaurant, and nice grounds. I like to swim (Mom doesn't), but any pool is OK. What's a good resort for a mother/ daughter adult only trip?

Do you want a deluxe or a moderate???

For a moderate I would say POFQ, because its the smaller one, less walking, beautifull resort.

For a deluxe I'm torn between CR and Poly!

Good luck!

I love the Boarwalk Inn or Villas. I like that its a hotel with interior hallways- like AKL. We stayed at POR when I was pregnant and I have to say the walk to my room from the bus stop was awful. I was so tired after being in the park all day I just wanted to be dropped off in my bed. Of course the 6 blisters didn't help.

But BW is nice too because you can walk over to Epcot if you are in the mood for walking. Or take the boats over to MGM and Epcot.

That's my vote. Have fun on your kidless trip!!

Well if you are interested in a monorail resort I would suggest the CR...the rooms are large and quiet, if in the tower access to everything can't be beat and the views from the balcony are to die for. Nice pool, Concourse steak house is a lovely quiet dining venue and you are just a monorail hop to the Poly and GF with many lovely dining options.

If you prefer the Epcot resort area I would opt for the Beach club...lovely property, phenomenal pool and the closest walk to Epcot. I think a boat ride would be better for MGM...it is a pretty long hike IMHO. Cape May is a good buffet (no characters at dinner, which should not be a problem for you), Beaches and Cream is fun for ice cream and/or sandwiches/burgers and there are several nice dining options a short stroll away at Boardwalk.

My personal preference is the CR, but BC and/or BW would be nice too.

Not sure if we want a deluxe or moderate. We have never stayed at a moderate, mostly because my kids are wild sleepers and need to be in queen size beds LOL! The nice thing about staying in a deluxe for this trip is that we would split the cost of the room. I'm thinking this might be the best chance I would have to stay at one of the more exspensive deluxes, plus I've always wanted to try a monorail resort. Then there's the other part of me that feels slightly guilty at spending that much money on a vacation that doesn't include my family..... :confused3

YC & BC wonderful pool and great restaurants in the area.
You might also consider GF or the Poly as they are on the monorail.

If it were me and my mom, we'd be heading to the GF in a heartbeat! Of course, it's my favorite resort and the first time my mom saw it, she fell in love!

What's to love:

A quiet and serene resort that is both elegant and inviting
The orchestra or grand piano playing in the beautiful lobby
MK is the first stop on the monorail and the first stop on the boat launch from MK
Easy transportation to the other parks
Beautiful rooms with fabulous garden views and magical lagoon views
Four onsite restaurants (plus V and A) and a great "food court"
Two pools and a beach
Magical views of the castle, "Wishes" and the Electric Water Parade
Turndown service every night - with yummy chocolates

Have fun deciding - and have a great, guilt-free time with your mom. You'll treasure the memories forever!

Minniesota - I think the GF would be great, but Mom is convinced that it is too fancy. She says she would have to buy a new wardrobe just to stay there LOL!!! I have walked through this resort once and thought it was beautiful. I keep thinking, "It's Disney, how fancy can it be?" Surely you can hang out in your shorts and Mickey Tee-shirt???

I'm sort of in your same situation...Mom (79) and I are going in January and since she told me to plan the entire trip, I decided to stay at the Poly for the convenience of the monorail, the bigger rooms, the fact that we both love anything tropical, can go out on the beach to watch Wishes every night, watch the parade on the lagoon.... Just is pure Disney in my mind.

That said, I absolutely love the Boardwalk area. That area is more vibrant and active, while the Poly is more relaxed and reserved. Very tough decisions! Good luck!

WILDERNESSWOMAN - I know some people have that notion about the GF but honestly, my family is as normal and "non-fancy" as they come, and we have never felt out of place there. I've stayed at the GF 8 times - I arrive on Sat. for my 9th trip!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

When we were there last fall with my parents, we all wore shorts, capris and t-shirts every day! It is Disney - but with a special twist of magic that makes you feel like a princess!

Tell your mom that my 76-year-old mom lives in the woods in northern Minn. and she was very comfortable at the GF - and she didn't buy one new item of clothing for the trip. ;) She just thought she'd died and gone to heaven! She doesn't swim either but one day she and my dad just sat in the shade around the quiet pool and ordered a sandwich and pina colada for lunch. I think it was her favorite "park" day!
:rotfl:

My 70+ yo mother and I took a "girls only" trip a few years ago, and stayed at the Boardwalk. It was perfect for us!

My mom has bad knees and trouble walking long distances, so we rented a scooter for her during our days in the parks (highly recomended, by the way). At night we would casually stroll the Boardwalk, sometimes with the scooter, sometimes not. Because there is always so much going on in what is really not a very big area, it seemed there was something entertaining every few steps.

However, I've never been to GF, but it does sound fun to stay there with all women and plan to spend time at the spa!
