Yes, your 2018 points will be available for borrowing for your January 2018 trip. Keep in mind that your January 2018 trip is actually in your 2017 Use Year. So you can use any available 2017 points (first) and then borrow what you need from 2018.

Thank you so much! I will get a hang of this DVC thing soon. I have been on the Boards all afternoon and just learned about this "walking a reservation" thing. That's way over my head but goes to show how much there is to learn about DVC.

I was wondering about that! Thanks for the tips. Do you have any input on if that will work with one laptop open and an iPad open at the same time? Or do you think it best to use two laptops/desktops?

Also side question I just thought about that has been making me nervous: August use year. I got back from a trip last week using 2016 points. We have an upcoming stay in May using borrowed 2017 points. Will I be able to book next week for this Jan 2018 trip using 2018 points?

And as Granny mentioned you'll be able to borrow 2018 points and use any remaining 2017 points. That brings up another point to mention - once you borrow the points they will stay in your 2017 UY so if the location you get at 7 months ends up being less than the PVB room you can't return the borrowed 2018 points. However if you do have 2017 points to use then those would be freed up and could be banked into the 2018 UY. Otherwise you'll end up with borrowed 2018 points that will need to be used by July 31, 2018.

I think I understand but double check for me to make sure I do: I have 2 points left in 2017 points. I have a 100 points for 2018. It worked out that the PVB point amount I need is 102 points (crazy how that worked, right?!). So those 2 2017 points will be used plus all 100 of my 2018 points. BWV is winning in my poll right now so that would be my first preference 7 month resort. It costs 92 points. If I get that, 2 points from 2017 will be used and 90 from 2018 will be used. 10 2018 points will then need to be used before July 31, 2018.

Am I on the right track with this?

If you are able to switch to the BWV then the system should use the borrowed points first and you would have 2 2017 points (that could be banked into the 2018 UY) and 8 2018 points that would need to be used by July 31, 2018.
