Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

There was a time that I thought the Poly had a fine CL, one of the top on property, especially in the late 90's, early 2000's. Chef Dick had that place top notch, you have to admit. Now, I have not stayed since Chef Dick has retired, and I would've loved to stayed at the CL if we could have, don't get me wrong! ;) Just to try it and see the difference and why some are griping. Some people have nothing to gage CL by. You can't compare WDW CLs with offsite CLs. Just can't. Different animal. ::yes::

The Tonga longhouse is fabulous as far as service, second to the 14th floor TOWER CLub at the CR. Now, I would love to have DH take me THERE in lieu of RPC to those new rooms/suites when they are finished! Just wonderful, that whole floor~love it!:cloud9:

Hope I didn't ramble to much!
Ramble? Never! I appreciate your comments:)

Tonga's out since we don't "need" a suite and the Tower Club is closed for renovations. You're right about offsite Vs. onsite CL - very different birds.

Think I missed that you have Poly GV CL booked? Okay, I guess I am the only one here that shares your Poly experience and would hesitate to stay there again until after the next refurb - even then I'd do so expecting some of the CM's to be less than cheery, although CL would help with that....but...her comes the but....I would absolutely NEVER stay GV CL because some of those views are plain awful! The back of the pool storage bldg, nothing but a tree in full bloom...maybe it's just me but if I stay Poly CL is will be a lagoon view with a request for 3rd floor (no 2nd fl balcony, as you know).

What about GF SL CL? It is still an MK resort, it would be a new experience - the rooms are large and lovely and until I stayed there, never appreciated the ambiance.

Or if DH would enjoy an EPCOT resort how about BWI CL? It has the absolute best CL reviews. I'm with you about YC rooftop views and even some so called water views that are nothing more than a very obstructed SAB view. While I dislike the creepy BW clown pool, there is a quiet pool...and you can request a water view with CL. :thumbsup2

I love strolling through International Gateway over to one of the EPCOT resorts (have stayed at all except YC, including S/D)...but do miss being on a monorail resort and that special ambiance of an MK resort.

Again, as much as I love the Poly, would not stay there until a refurb. And while I'm not a fan of CL in general, we did seriously consider Poly and/or BWI CL, but BWI would have won out b/c Poly CL offerings do not appeal to me. Maybe I'm odd. :rotfl:
I love your honesty about the Poly, it's so refreshing. Everything you wrote is true and now that I'm down to a month before check-in, I'm getting cold Poly feet:laughing:, so thanks for chiming in.

The reason we've never been interested in the GF is primarily because we vacation at The Greenbrier in West Virginia and the GF is almost exactly the same theming as The Greenbrier (floral overload). Also, I've read many reports that the walls are very thin there. So those are my two (lame) reasons for not staying.

You are very right about BWI's CL, it gets rave reviews and that is really tempting when you spend a premium for CL at WDW. And knowing that CRRF4L loves it AND the CR, which is my favorite, says a lot.

But, I'm just not crazy about the location and the theming. Not to insult anyone, but the carnival-type theming isn't very appealing to us and every time I mention the resort to DD and DH I get the same comment about the "disturbing clown slide." I've mentioned there is a quiet pool, but they're afraid that our room would end up overlooking that "disturbing clown slide." I know this is so petty and unimportant in the scheme of things, but I can't seem to get them past the carnival theming.

BWI is the only Deluxe I have never been in. In fact, I've only been down the BW once in all our many visits to WDW. It is truly unchartered territory for us. We've just never felt compelled to venture "out that way."

Anyone (CRRF4L?) have any helpful advice to convince me to stay there instead of the Poly or YC? I'd love to hear everyone's opinion who's stayed at BWI. Is the carnival theming overwhelming or is it actually more subtle? Knowing how I love the CR and WL, what do you think would especially appeal to me over at BWI?
popcorn::

I gotta tell you, we've stayed in the BWI CL's standard, deluxe, king rooms, etc, but our best stay was in one of the garden suites!
The ones without the white picket fences, they have a much better floor plan and a private HUGE balcony for viewing the FWs!

BWI CL's CMs makes their CL. ::yes::
Not their offerings or where the lounge is located, just the CMs.

Here I am again!! :rotfl: Understand about GF and Greenbrier.:thumbsup2 Hmm... we never heard a peep from another room during our GF stays.:confused3

Sooo....we do think alike. I'm not a fan of the BW Carnival theme at all and not crazy about the BWI in general - though we've only stayed in the Villas, it shares a lobby and of course, the Boardwalk - which we did not enjoy. It's just not my cup of tea. I like BC, but find the rooms too small and who knows what the view might be. Like YC decor, but same room size and view issue. The last few times I've made a ressie at any of the EPCOT resorts, switched to the Poly.:confused3 Also LOVE CR (what is better than the monorail gliding through - it is ultimate WDW resort, as is the Poly), but not crazy about brown refurb (the previous one was worse...remember the red/purple swirls???) so hoping the next refurb will be a lighter color scheme - though fear they will go with a design similar to BLT.

Sorry...I am no help at all!!! :sad2:

p.s. Go to Tikiman's site, listen to the music, hear the waterfall...check out views of GV CL....then follow your intuition. ::yes::

Well when staying on the Boardwalk Inn side no matter if it's in a regular room category or Club Level room category, your room won't face the clown pool. Only those staying on the Boardwalk Villas side might get a room with that view.

Well as I said before I have stayed once before at the Polynesian and it was good, however I haven't stayed at the Yacht Club. Now the only thing I can say is will you mind having to walk outside when going to the GCH for getting to their stores, restaurants and transportation options? At least with the Yacht Club everything is in one main building.

As for the carnival themeing for the Boardwalk I can honestly say it's more subtle. The only time you would notice a carnival like atmosphere is during the evening when they have various acts and etc that happen along the Boardwalk, which are very fun to watch. Besides that another great aspect is walking to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Plus in terms of distance the Boardwalk is the closest resort to Hollywood Studios.

You are ALWAYS helpful and I appreciate how understanding you are and your wealth of knowledge:goodvibes.

If I could stay at the CR the whole 12 nights, I probably would, but there's a night or two in there without availability. In fact, I always check the resort booking page (I'm obsessed:rolleyes1) to get a feel of how crowded the resort will be when we're there, and the CR (and GF) are completely booked for our dates. I suspect the CR is full of conventioneers and the GF might be having some weddings:confused3. None of the other Deluxes seem heavily booked at all.

This will be DH's first CL stay ever and his first trip back to WDW since he was in AFG so maybe that's why I'm a little obsessed about this part of the vacation. I want the second half of our split, which is CL, to be a wonderful first CL experience for DH. By wonderful, I mean having a neat and tidy lounge that doesn't feel crowded or look messy, with guests who are mindful of the rules of lounge decorum (I can wish, can't I?) and that has a friendly lounge and CL staff.

My main worry about the Poly lounge is that I read a lot of reports of many guests who saunter in from the pool and have wet bathing suits on and no cover-ups and/or shoes and kids who are unsupervised (similar to what I've read about the BC lounge). DH would absolutely hate that, but he loves the idea of the beautiful Bay Lake views and the sushi and large lounge seating area of the KK Club.

So what would you guys do?

~Stay at the Poly, knowing what my reservations are about the rooms and lounge...

~Switch (back) to the YC/CL (DH has never stayed at an Epcot resort), even though only STD view rooms are available now... (DH says he could care less about the room view)

~Or switch back (again) to WL where the lounge is great, but I can't walk or monorail anywhere (except FTW) and the rooms are so small and we were just there at Xmas and DD doesn't want to go back now...

I'm leaning toward the YC. But, I will tell you that I am definitely going to visit BWI, the only Deluxe I've never been inside. And, I'm going to ask to look at a room; we did this once at the GF. Should I ask to see a Deluxe or a regular room?

Gee, this is a tough decision....did you say BWI CL is not available? Because from everything I've heard and read that would fit the criteria (which would be mine as well) best. If not, then I guess YC, but I'd hate that std view...who knows though, with your simple requests maybe you'll get assigned a nicer view. :goodvibes

I'm thinking go with YC CL if you think your DH & DD would really enjoy an EPCOT resort, then you'll have the best of both worlds. I can't see your dates at this moment, but if early August (think you're leaving August 5?) I do know of at least one convention at CR b/c I seriously considered attending, but do not enjoy a solo trip and could not find anyone to come along ( friend would not have been left alone a lot or have to attend any boring conferences - but all of my non DIS friends are not into Disney at all).

Still do not feel good about a Poly stay right now - but if your heart is drawing you there.... :goodvibes

BWI is available and you're right about it meeting my (silly) CL needs, but it's that darn carnival theme/atmosphere that I just don't think will work. I mentioned to CRRF4L though that I will visit the resort and try to see a room there so that I can get a better idea how I would actually "feel" there. Yep, I still don't have a warm and fuzzy Poly feeling either.

You're correct that we depart from WDW on the 5th. Would you mind telling me what convention is going on at the CR in the end of July/August?

I hope you don't mind me asking how your dog is doing? Oh, and I've never lived in the Tampa/St. Pete area, but just think how close you'd be to WDW!

The rooms at BWI do not have a carnival theme at all - more of an upscale boardwalk, I guess. The rooms might have a couple of wall hangings like that, but not the decor at all. I'm sure you've seem photos since the refurb - rooms are nice. True, none of the BWI rooms are near that awful clown pool so would not have to look at that and could use the quiet pool instead of the clown. Even thinking about that pools gives me the creeps. I like the idea of stopping to get a feel and see a room.

Honestly, I do not like the boardwalk theme or the pool, but the inside of the resort doesn't portray that strongly. Holiday decorations have red/white striped ribbon on the wreaths, a nautical theme.:confused3 Not a big fan of the lobby either...sorry...it is so small and the gift shop is TINY. Also, do not like the Boardwalk area, especially at night - nevertheless, I would try BWI CL b/c have heard only great things about it - did read a couple of reviews that mentioned then CM's being a bit on the snobby side, but most rave about the CM's. Would love to stay in one of the deluxe rooms.

Of course I don't mind sharing the convention :goodvibes: MI Hummel, August 4-6 (with pre and post stays available for attendees as usual) - I have an interest in Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel and Franz Goebel and wondered it it might be a way to learn more...but am not a collector of Hummels - have a couple.

Gracie and Jackie are both doing well for the moment - thanks for asking :flower3: - but we know it is only a matter of time. Gracie is my baby and Jackie is Mia's (Jackie was in ICU twice since December, but we will not go that route again should she get that sick again - do not want to put her through any more.)

Not sure DD will like St Pete (does not like Tampa at all), but she does want Sophia to be exposed to a lot of diverse culture/s and experiences.:thumbsup2 Thanks! (suggestions most welcome ::yes::)

My vote would have to be Poly. Sorry! :rotfl: I can't seem to get away from the MK resorts. I like having the convenience to MK AND Epcot. Staying at an Epcot resort loses major points because of the bus to MK.

hahhahahaha! It's hard to beat that reasoning! ITA!
That's why I love the MK resorts, including the WL.
And the GF is my TRUE LOVE of them ALL! :lovestruc

Now, we did have no problems in May at the YC with the buses. None at all. Really. (but that could have been a fluke! ;) )

Agree with you about Poly, but also share WDWKook's concerns about Poly room and resort cleanliness etc. It just hasn't had the best reviews in quite awhile and our last stay was just okay -staff, room etc was not good - still love the Poly though.:goodvibes Absolutely do not enjoy the buses to MK from EPCOT resorts, love the monorail from any MK resort (love all four for different reasons, with monorail resorts my absolute faves). Staying on the monorail allows us to be completely immersed in the enchantment. While we do enjoy the stroll from WS to the BC/YC, it is not the same as walking out to the monorail - MAGIC!!!

I LOVE your second ticker!!!!!

Most people say they're a deluxe snob but I'm just a monorail snob. :snooty: :lmao:

Honestly if I couldn't stay on the monorail I'd be fine with CBR or Pop, but I love the convenience of the monorail.

I can totally understand those concerns. I'd be happy to report back after our trip. :thumbsup2
I may one day be able to stay at an Epcot resort but for now it just isn't in the cards. Thanks for noticing the new ticker! :goodvibes

I love your 12,000 posts:yay:

As far as FL is concerned, if diversity of culture and experiences is what she's after, then South FL would probably be to her liking.

I'm glad that as of right now, the dogs are comfortable. You're doing a great job getting through this:hug:

You've delineated the pros and cons of BWI very well - thank you.

My vote would have to be Poly. Sorry! :rotfl: I can't seem to get away from the MK resorts. I like having the convenience to MK AND Epcot. Staying at an Epcot resort loses major points because of the bus to MK.
Yep, walking right over to the TTC is a major draw. If we were to stay at an Epcot resort, we would probably go to the MK mostly during our stay at the CR and/or we'd walk to the front of Epcot and take the monorail (with a stop at Club Cool, of course;)).

We don't really enjoy buses to/from anywhere. When I'm at WDW I want to be able to walk and/or monorail everywhere - it's so much more exciting. We drive to AK and DHS to avoid the bus, but DD loves the bus:confused3

I just found this thread...
Hello, my name is Kim and I am a resort changeritis. We are planning a trip for May 2012. It started out as a November trip, though. I am a date changeritis as well.:lmao: It started out at staying at CR /w a MK view room, then PC for finances, then changed to the CSR, then back to the PC. Then (when we were still going in Nov) I found out about the Art of Animation, so I changed it to that. Since our last trip, I've wanted to stay at the WL while it's dressed for Christmass, so I changed to that. My DH decided that liked the idea of having our own bedroom seperate from our DS's so I changed to the cabins at FW. Then the dates changed, but we still had FW in mind. However, I started feeling bad about the DS's having to sleep on a pull out, so I changed it to the PC. Then I read about the Royal rooms at the POR, so we switched to that. Now I'm afraid the boys will think it's too "girly" and feel selfish doing it since I'm the only girl in the family. Then I read something about renting DVC points, and I had totally forgotten that you could do that. Now I want to rent DVC points. My first thought was to get a studio at BLT /w a MK view, but I may save that for when I graduate. It will give me something to look forward to when I really don't want to do school work. I am seriously thinking about getting either a studio at the WL or at AK /w a Savannah view. The DS's said they wouldn't care if they had to sleep on a pull out couch since it would mean they would get to go to WDW.

I'm leaning toward the YC. But, I will tell you that I am definitely going to visit BWI, the only Deluxe I've never been inside. And, I'm going to ask to look at a room; we did this once at the GF. Should I ask to see a Deluxe or a regular room?
Well the difference between the Standard Room and Deluxe Room is the extra space and extra TV that comes with the Deluxe Room. However if there are any empty rooms chances are it would be a Standard Room because there is like only 10 total Deluxe Rooms and most of the time they are sold out.

Hi Gang! :yay:
It’s been a busy week at work and at home. DD has been bugging me to move into another bedroom (our “extra room”) so we have been cleaning, and going thru her stuff to donate or give away. Then we have to paint, move stuff and get this all ready for August (before our trip)!

WDWKOOK: Can’t give first hand knowledge in the discussion about CL (having never stayed at this level) AND the only deluxe I’ve stayed in is WL and OKW, BUT I would vote for the POLY (my dream resort).

No, not unexplored! I stayed YC/CL last August. Now, it was supposed to be for 8 nights and after one night I "needed" to go back to the CR. This trip the CR is already covered for the first 5 nights;)

I've also stayed at the Poly in '03 and '07, but never CL there. '03 was great, '07 stunk and we moved to, you guessed it, the CR after 3 nights:rotfl:

Christine suggested I switch back (for the third time:rotfl:) to WL CL since I really liked it. But that darn transportation is a lot less convenient and the room is much smaller. Any thoughts on that? It's even $500 less:rolleyes:

But ... could it be that you are so much happier in the MK area? Yes I know this time you will be at the CR the first part of your trip, so maybe that will be the difference. Does your DH want to stay at an EPCOT resort?? If so, I would probably try for BWI, but I like the idea of staying at a MK resort in the summer (love the POLY tropical theme) and have the monorail and the beautiful beaches at night. If it were there during F&W, no second guessing, stay over in EPCOT. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised with the POLY service since ’07.

Oh, and I love the WL!! Yes you do not have the monorail, but you do have the boat to MK. It is so peaceful there and will be different from the CR. AND, since it is the second portion of your trip, won't it be nice to kick back and relax some??

Or ... how 'bout this? Can you change your CR ressie to be the second part of the trip?? Stay first in the EPCOT area, knowing that you will be ending your trip in the MK area which you so love? Or I am complicating things too much :lmao:

Have a wonderfully peaceful time at your cabin. It is funny years ago when I first started going to WDW I loved the fact that from the moment I got on the plane until I pulled back into the driveway at home, work was the furtherist thing from my mind before that if I stayed home there were endless phone calls and once I even ended up going to a district meeting right in the middle of my vacation which caused DH and I to have words and promted me to buy our first answering machine, no more work calls were taken:rotfl:
But I realized those days of peace at Disney are now gone forever when I last vacationed with Ddil there she was stopping to work, answering emails etc all work related as we walked around the parks. Technology has inturrupted what was once a place you could get away from it all.
You sure speak the truth!!

Most people say they're a deluxe snob but I'm just a monorail snob. :snooty: :lmao:

:rotfl2:
Honestly if I couldn't stay on the monorail I'd be fine with CBR or Pop, but I love the convenience of the monorail.
Love the POP!!

P.S. In a way I'm relieved ... I can't possibly change my AKV ressie, whew!! Now just trying to decide between having a DP or not, if so, do I go for the QS, reg DP, how many days, etc. ...

Christine: Way to go on the 12,000 posts!! It will take me FOREVER to get even half of that!! :cool1:

Hi Kim and :welcome: !! You are in good company here. BTW, I'm renting DVC points for the first time this august (staying at AKV studio) so I can let you know about my experience if you like. And I stayed at WLV and loved it.

Another thought ... keep in mind that POR Riverside should almost be fully refurbed and the manson section wil be converted to the Haunted House theme ... your two boys might love this ... plus queen beds:thumbsup2

Just today I got the inexplicable urge to change from Poly/CL back to YC/CL. Any thoughts? Anyone?

You KNOW I choose YC. I'll be there in August. I love the location. I can't really speak to the CL. I don't see the value of it at all but I hear it is nice.

I am so planning on getting step in a crown! :thumbsup2

WOW!!!! A serious case of "Changeritis" Welcome :welcome: Have your dates changed? FW may be a good choice if you want to save AND have enough space. Also, FW is in the MK area. I vote for FW.

My DH asked me to check out Kidani and BCV!! We have until the 5th to make changes.....although you all KNOW I've switched resorts during check-in :scared1:. We are thinking about more space.

StepDisney: Just realized that you will be at Universal before DW ... just like me. What days are you planning on being in Universal?? Tentatively we are going on 8/17 & 8/18. :)

(I'm staying at Kidani!!)
