Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

Uh oh. I just bought a new car and I haven't had a car payment in 4 years so depending on how I handle my money, I may have to switch to somewhere a bit cheaper...like WL or OKW or SSR.

:sad2:We have to switch....So DH decided he would try to surprise me with something nice, went on the WDW website, and up popped in 122 days you'll be here......insert GF pic here. So needless to say he saw how much I spent, and I got a "not so nice" phone call at work. So to maintain harmony, we are now booked WL Deluxe room. The nice thing is I have $2574 coming back to me. I know we will still have a great trip, but :sad2: Back to wishing for me.

Congrates on the new car! What did you buy? Changeing resorts is worth it for a new car I think :)

Everytime DH or I bought a new car it never failed one or both of us would end up with work cutting back on OT so we would have to make adjustments in other areas.

Aww so sorry, but WL is beautiful you will be happy with the Deluxe room. I love it and it is DH's favorite resort. I could book anything and DH would never complain, he is not one for financial matters, when I talk Disney his eyes sorta glaze over and he will say book where you want, I am the one who tends to be more practical and start to worry about how much everything will cost.

I will be wishing with you........GF is one of my Dream resorts too :cloud9: the bad thing is I want to stay in the Main building $$$$ and during Christmas Season. :goodvibes

Thank you. Yeah he's the practical one. He thought we were staying at Pop, so WL is a compromise. It's all good. The money is nothing to sneeze at, we work VERY hard for it:thumbsup2 And when it comes down to it, the kids will be happy ANYWHERE in Disney. I'm for Christmas too. I have never seen the decorations up. DH said we can go visit GF this summer to check it out, but I said NO WAY I'll cry:sick:

Not a bad deal. Congrats on the new car.:goodvibes

I don't have it yet because it's not on the lot but a Hyundai Elantra. I found a bunch of Disney stuff...stearing wheel cover, floor mats and an awesome window decal!

Woops! At least you're still in a deluxe resort! And more money to spend!

:rotfl: I wish I could find some king of excuse to do that too! :rotfl2:

But I'm stuck with one cake - maybe. Better make it a good one! :goodvibes

I still might switch over to GF. ;) The CL there was sooo good, and the resort is so lovely (Despite the Laura Ashley barf-style decor ;))

But - I really didn't like the bus service there at all. The bus service at AKL is so much better. :)

I say get 2 cakes! Make up a celebration if you must lol. 2 cakes for everyone! "Let them eat cake."

:scared1: Oh no!!! Now I feel sad to be staying there. I'm sure you will love the WL and you will definitely have a magical trip no matter what.

:lmao: That's my parents whenever I try to discuss any of the plans with them. I get the same response every time. "You're the pro. You know everything. You just handle it and we'll go along with whatever you say."

You know I have never stepped foot into GF. I have held off going there even to eat , prefering to admire GF from afar since when I do stay there one day I want it to be the first time I go there. I have gone to CR and the Poly to eat so the magic of staying at those places have lost a little of the "Magic" for me.

My stay in September will be my first time stepping foot on GF property. The only time I've ever seen it is when passing through on the monorail from Poly or CR. I never, ever had an interest in the resort until sometime around February. I'm pretty sure kaffinito talked me into it! :rotfl:

Too funny. I guess maybe that's how my brain is working too. And DH says that it'll be better when the kids are bigger and we need a lot of space. And they can get the WOW factor. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

disneydreamin247Please don't feel guilty. I enjoy every bit of everyone's trip reports, and pictures. I can't get into WL like the kids are (yeah DH ruined my surprise), but once I'm on WDW property I will be happy no matter what. Now I have to redo ADRs:rotfl:I never wanted to stay there either until reading these boards. My time will come:goodvibes Now I have $$ to take you to Houlihan's (the Woodbridge one is open I saw)

The first time I ever went to WDW back in '89 and I saw the GF from the monorail I told DH that someday I was going to stay there. What is crazy is there were a few times I could have stayed there already but for one reason or another I have never booked a room there. In fact this years trip I had GF all priced out, read most of the GF thread then decided on CR TPV and booked that , then ended up switching to BC because of F&W Festival.

Make sure you take lots of pics and do a TR for those of us dying to stay there

I posted about your change to the WL thread before I saw your post here, so now I know why it's not a secret anymore.

I think things happen for a reason, and you know that I was all for the WL Deluxe room, so I'm really happy for your change. But, I know that it's not what you envisioned. I still think that $2,574 is a substantial savings which could be used toward a future vacation, adding a meal plan or even staying a bit longer at the WL.

I already posted a reply to you on the WL thread, but it's worth repeating: You and your family are going to love the WL and I have no doubt about that. You also need to plan on boating, riding bikes or walking over to FTW. They have a petting farm and stables and if you've never done it, I would highly recommend Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue. Everyone will love the show and food:goodvibes

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start looking forward to the Lodge! I don't mean to be harsh, but you are still going to WDW, you're still going to be in the MK resorts area, you're staying CL (my favorite CL) and you're saving a lot of money, too. Since the cat's out of the bag, you can now show your family photos and talk about the trip all the time:hyper:.

Here's some photos from our balcony to get you excited:

Oh man I'd be most upset about my surprise being ruined!

I can't help feeling bad. That's my personality! And sorry sister, but I'm treating at Houlihan's! DS really liked the WL and wanted to stay there and I conceded for him. That boat is SUPER convenient and the bus service was really good while we were there. We also enjoyed sitting on our balcony and watching the EWP while enjoying a Mickey bar. If it weren't for my issues with the front desk staff I probably would have enjoyed our stay there and since you don't have to deal with them I say ENJOY!

I will definitely be taking lots and lots of pics!

I'd love to stay at CR but only in a tower room and it never seems to be available with a discount. I would probably make that portion of the trip shorter though since I'm not sure how much I would like it there. I've always wanted to but it feels more like a hotel than a resort.

Okay my switch sisters, I need some advice or words of encouragement on an unrelated topic. A friend I used to work with is annoyed that she has yet to meet the princess and is being not so nice about it. Tonight I was honest with her and told her I haven't been having people over because DS hasn't adjusted well and is having meltdowns everyday and when people come over it's a million times worse. (he loves his sister to death but is having a hard time adjusting to the change) I have only had one friend over because A) her baby is only 12 weeks older than Lily and B) we're very close and I'm not embarrassed of DS' meltdowns in front of her. She'll joke with me about it instead of it getting awkward. I really don't know what else to say to this friend. It isn't like I don't want her to meet the baby but I just prefer not to do it here.

That was too funny! :lmao:

I agree. Cake can never be too plentiful. I was thinking of possibly, maybe, perhaps doing 2 cakes since my dad's birthday is 2 weeks after our trip.

I agree with everyone else, order two cakes. Your dad will really be surprised since his birthday is after your trip. That would be so sweet of you, I think.

stepdisney Gas prices are insane. I drive a Suburban too:scared1: If any more discounts come out I MAY switch to 2 rooms CL, but I really want GF!

WDWKOOK Wasn't even gonna acknowledge my birthday, I HATE my birthday (like my RC sister disneydreamin247). Plus I got to pick the resort right? But it is an excuse for cake:thumbsup2 You know.....my anniversary is August 11;)

kaffinito I HAVE to plug your TR. It was great:goodvibes AND I got my 2nd Vacation Planning DVD today....enjoying it now with the kids:lovestruc
I didn't realize you would do two regular CL rooms since you were looking at suites. If that's the case, have you priced out two STD GF/SL rooms compared with one Deluxe WL room? Would one Deluxe GF room accommodate your family? It sounds to me like you really did have your heart set on the GF, but not necessarily a suite?

Can I join the Birthday Haters Club? I absolutely love my DH's and DD's. I love buying gifts, wrapping and planning and making their favorite cake, so it's hard for me to understand why my birthday is so "difficult" for DH. DH hates shopping and I have to admit, I'm really hard to buy for and frequently take things back that he buys for me. He wants a list from me, but then I could just buy myself what I need, right? I got so upset before my last birthday that I begged him to not buy me anything or worry about it at all and I got my wish:rolleyes1.

Kaffinito: I enjoyed your TR, too. Can't believe your trip has come and gone.

I know you really have your heart set on the GF, but personally, I think the WL has a fantastic WOW factor when you walk into the lobby.

I hope you guys will post a photo of your girl's night out!

As a compromise, could you meet your friend at a park or mall or for lunch while DS is in school?

You shouldn't feel like you have to have her over. In fact, I think if you ignore her she will stop inquiring and then when you feel ready you can have her meet your DD. You've got enough stress right now, don't let your former co-worker make you feel bad, you've done nothing wrong.

Her baby is 3 months older so she is in a different place than you right now. I think she's being a little pushy and should give you some breathing room.

So my boyfriend and I went to Half Price Books and I found this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3401/4610605298_25c9702b66.jpg and it had like two pages on WDW. It was from the 80s and it talked about Epcot. I was gonna buy it, but not for the two pages on WDW. lol I think it was very early 80s because I know part of the article said, "In 1982". It had a picture of the Kitchen Kabaret and some other things, but I can't recall.

And 2 days until my birthday! My co-worker, the one who sees pigs every day, brought me a little gift bag with a couple of Alice in Wonderland items from the dollar section along with a little piece of cake with a blue rose on it at work yesterday as my gift for my birthday. It was so sweet! I was almost in tears. She was off yesterday, but she came in just to give that to me. I felt so special. She brought me the gift bag yesterday because we weren't going to be working together til late next week since I'm not working on my birthday or the day after and she's off on Wednesdays.

I just had to share that with you wonderful gals since I don't really have any updates for my trip. :goodvibes I hope everyone else is doing well. I'm pretty exhausted from being at Six Flags all day. I'm also sorry to hear that you won't be staying at the GF, pas130!

bitohoney Congratulations on the new car! I love the Mickey decal you've picked out for it too. :goodvibes

Maybe to save money you'll have to switch to BLT? :rolleyes1

pas130 Oh no! :sad1: I'm so sorry that happened to you! I am really really proud of you though for keeping your secret for so long

And WL is a beautiful resort, and has that breathtaking lobby. It's the only CL left that I want to try - it's supposed to be very good. :goodvibes

Maybe you could follow KOOK's suggestion and see if you could get two rooms at GF? Maybe even GV rooms? There aren't any bad views or rooms there - trust me on that one. :)

sjs314 I hope you do get to stay at GF. It was never on my list of places to stay, but DS18 picked it for his 18th birthday. :goodvibes

I know what you mean about CR and Poly. I had visited there when I was a small child, so to me they still and always will have that childlike magic for me. :goodvibes I feel that way about BC and YC though. They just seem so commonplace since we've eaten there so often.

My stay in September will be my first time stepping foot on GF property. The only time I've ever seen it is when passing through on the monorail from Poly or CR. I never, ever had an interest in the resort until sometime around February. I'm pretty sure kaffinito talked me into it! :rotfl:

It wasn't me! I'm a cheapskate, remember? :rotfl:

Actually it might have been me after all. My description of the food at CL was probably what did it... You were pregnant at the time.... :teeth:

WDWKOOK;

Here's some photos from our balcony to get you excited:

Those are really nice pics! Maybe I might just cave in and let DS18 stay there in August...

Out of curiosity, how would you compare the CL at WL to other CL's?

Okay my switch sisters, I need some advice or words of encouragement on an unrelated topic. A friend I used to work with is annoyed that she has yet to meet the princess and is being not so nice about it. Tonight I was honest with her and told her I haven't been having people over because DS hasn't adjusted well and is having meltdowns everyday and when people come over it's a million times worse. Honestly, if she doesn't understand that she can't meet the Princess just yet, then just try explaining it to her again using a different tact. Your DS will settle down eventually - oldest DS was pretty much the same over his "baby" brother.

Try meeting her somewhere else just so she can see the baby. :goodvibes

In my experience their Tower rooms have been available on previous general public room only discounts, Annual Pass rates, Bounceback rates and AAA rates.

But they are hard to get. :goodvibes I just looked (just looked!) at the website today and there weren't any rooms at all for August 26-30th but there was even a Garden Wing room for August 26-29.

Well when looking for their rooms with a discount we always would reserve months in advance so maybe that's why I have always seen them available. For our trip in December 2010 with the Atrium Club floor was not available with the Bounceback rate no matter what combination of days we tried, however we could have stayed on a regular floor with the Bay Lake View using the Bounceback rate. Plus we found out that information in August 2010 which was 4 months before. So that's the one time we couldn't get what we wanted. Finally let's not forget about all the conventions they host per year and sometimes those groups get their rooms blocked 1 - 2 years in advance, so that would the exception when their rooms aren't even available at the rack rate.
