I notice a number of WDW resorts have beaches next to water. Is there swimming at any of these? Specifically I saw a picture of the Swan/Dolphin beach and it looked like there was an area roped off maybe for swimming.

I believe you are talking about crescent lake, which is the lake near the swan/dolphin, beach and yacht club, and boardwalk. You can't swim in this water. The only swimming is in the resort pools. :beach:

To my knowledge you are not allowed to swim in any bodies of water on WDW property. You used to be able to swim at the Poly and Contemporary in early days but that stopped probably around the same time they closed River Country. I'm sure someone else will chime in with more information.

The bodies of water at WDW are not fed by rivers, creeks, etc. Therefore the water is pretty stagnant. Add to that all the boats and ferries that travel the water ways and I am sure that you can see that the water would not be clean enough for swimming. I have seen people let their children wade in the water and I am always freaked out by it. Central Floridia also has a problem with amoeba in warn waters in the summer. Several children here have died in the last ten years in different lakes and bodies of water.

Plus don't forget about the alligators.

it is moving out of florida

here is an article about it and why you and your children need to stay out of all the fresh water in Florida, SC

when you ask a CM they will generally say the alligators - but Disney can deal with alligators.

this thing is why distillery water is used in neti pot or should be

We've had a couple of deaths due to the amoeba in Louisiana and they weren't even swimming. Both were using Neti pots with tap water.

oh that is so sad - to lose your life over something that cost around $1.10 PER GALLON

I have seen water moccasins on several occasions at WDW, last year on the boat from Wilderness Lodge back to MK after dinner and it was raining lightly and i look at the water and standing straight up, maybe 10 feet from the boat in the water was a water moccasin. I'd imagine they are in all the bodies of water - not something I'd like to swim with!
