Not sure if this is the right place for this question so mods please feel free to move.

I was in WDW in December and when we went to use RAC, we weren't able to check-in our son. They said there was a discrepancy on his name and that the airline wouldn't allow the check-in (I had already done our check-in online but I wanted to drop off our bags with them, etc).

Anyway, I want to make sure it doesn't happen again in Feb when we go back. Who do I contact to make sure our names are correct? He's currently listed with Disney as "Joey" but his name on his passport and plane ticket is his full name. Does it matter? Do I call ME or is there someone else I should contact?

Thanks in advance!

There are multiple issues here and you may need to post more info if you want a complete answer.

What airline? You said you checked in yourself. But then RAC had a problem. Did Disney give you any more info? Did you self check in work for all of you? How did Disney enter his name for check in?

Since you mentioned a passport are you from another country? That may affect things, I don't know. Any child younger than 18 does NOT need an ID, passport or otherwise to fly in the USA. I'm not sure about this if you are not US citizens.

I don't see what you have on your Disney reservation would matter. RAC pulls up your reservation from the airline's computer. Perhaps his name matches someone on the terrorist watch list. But in that case I don't understand why it allowed you to do online check-in.

That could be the reason but the OP said they checked in themselves. There's some confusion.

Thanks guys for the replies. We are all US Citizens and we always carry his passport with us as his ID (even though we know we don't need it).

We were flying Southwest which is why I checked in 24-hours ahead of time in order to get group A. I've always done that when I fly SW and then go to RAC mainly for luggage.

His name is the same as his dads, only difference is he is II and he (my son) also had the Pre-Flight Check thing on his boarding pass so I don't think it's a name problem with the terrorist flight list.

At the end, since SW allows two checked bags per person I just checked his suitcase as my own and when I got to the airport printed out his boarding pass (RAC gave me mine and my hubbys) but I was hoping to avoid that this time. I just like it to be as easy as possible and easy for me is having everyone's boarding pass in my hand before we head to the airport.

I guess my main question was, where does RAC pull names from? Is it names from ME and they match them to those on the airline list or do they have their own database directly from the airlines?

Thanks again.

That's really odd. Since you checked in and technically had (unprinted) boarding passes I'm pretty clueless as to why RAC had a problem. Sorry.

That's ok, I thought it was strange too. I just wanted to make sure that RAC didn't pull names from ME because then my son's name won't match (he's listed as Joey). Thanks anyway.

RAC is separate from DME. I've checked luggage when I rented a car, no DME reservation.

Next time RAC won't print his boarding pass, go to the resort customer service desk they can print the pass for you.

I have had the same exact problem twice. Once in 2011 and the second time last year. I have Jr. at the end of my legal name (as shown on my license) and that seems to be the problem. I have no problem checking in myself, but RAC is unable to process my check in. They also cannot accept my luggage since they can not check me in. Last year, I just paid extra to check in my bag under my wife's name.

We are going again in March and fully expect to have the same problem again.

You may be on to something. My son is a II, wonder if that's the problem? This is the first time I have a problem with it though (he has been 5 times). Oh well, I will prepare to just check in his suitcase under my name and do as I did in December just in case.

Thanks everyone! :wave2:pixiedust:

I suspect that RAC drops off the suffix (Jr, II, etc) and since it doesn't match TSA records it kicks out.

I would keep all names legal and with the jr or II so that ever bit matches.

I did. I even made a special call to Disney before the last trip to make sure the Jr was listed. Did not make any difference.

Checking with Disney will not help with airline reservations. You need to check with the airline. That is where the name is critical and must match the ID that is presented.
