hi,

This is my first post. We are planning a trip in early May, it's my dd's birthday, we are going as a surprise. I have not been to Disney in 30 years, my dh has never been. We are taking a 6 and 8 year old girl, for the first time.

We are very excited, and I have learned a ton from this board. I am wondering about the pros and cons of Residence Inn and Embassy Suites.

Dh wants something larger, we will be there for 5 days, and must include breakfast, thus my choices so far. I hear Hojo's is great, but a no go for us this time.

TIA
Misty

not sure on the hotel's your requesting.. there is a link with hotel pictures I would check that.. Also.. check the HOJO entertainment rate.. you don't need the book.. It's not too badly priced and you can order the card off ebay.. thats all you need.

Embassy Suites is great, you get a suite and a full hot breakfast, but you can't walk to the park. I would say that is the only draw back.

We stayed at the Maingate Inn in December and had a pleasant stay. It only has a continental breakfast which includes, hard boiled eggs, toast, pastries, cereal, juice, coffee and some fruit. Also I know their pool will be closed for construction sometime soon but I'm not sure of the dates. Not sure if this effects your decision or not.

If you are looking for a full breakfast within walking distance I would check Park Vue Inn, it is right across the street and gets really great reviews on trip advisor.

The breakfast must have changed then since we last stayed, it was a full hot breakfast and managers specials at night. We walked to the park most days, the evenings we took ART back since we seem to have good timing. They also did grocery shopping for us and put the food away. We have always had pleasent stays there.

Just got off the phone with them and they still offer a full american breakfast.

Just looked at the pictures of the residence Inn. It looks really nice, I don't know why I've never stayed there before. How close is it to DL?

Barely under 1/2 mile, depends on where/how you cross the streets and where you are located in the building complex.

I have stayed at both, and they were both great!

If I had to choose, I would go with the Residence Inn. The room was wonderful and and you get a full kitchen, which comes in very handy, especially with kids. The staff at the Residence Inn was wonderful and very pleasant. I also like the fact that you can walk to the park if you want to, although it does take about 20 minutes. A few days during our stay we just missed the ART bus and decided to walk over instead of waiting for the next one. It took about 20 minutes with a double stroller. Probably not a walk I would want to do at the end of the day, but in the morning it was fine!

We stayed mid 2010 and there was a full breakfast available. Eggs, pancakes, saugage, bacon, omletes, ect.

Thanks everyone.

i have looked at lots of pictures, and am reading the review link posted.

I am no even more confused at where to stay! lol.

I wanted to stay on property, but we decided it was a little much.

I guess I will do a little more research about parking and breakfast, and internet at Residence, and discuss with hubby again.

We are going the 2nd week of May, anyone been then? What is the weather like typically?, and the crowds?

Thanks

Scratch what I said, I thought you said the Ramada Maingate Inn. Sorry!

Definitely check out HoJo's! I just looked here, and they have the Entertainment rate available on May 8 through 11. At that rate, you can either get a standard room with two beds for $59/night, or, if it's available, the Kids Suite is $99. The latter is a two room suite - king bed in one room, twin bunk beds plus sofa sleeper in the other. Each room has its own bath.

We've also stayed at both places. We are limited on where we can stay with 4 kids and 2 parents in one room!

We enjoyed both places. The drawback to Embassy is that you are not within walking distance, but we found the ART to be timely and not a problem.

The pros to the Residence Inn are that it's roomier and within walking distance. We walked to Disney almost every morning, and my 4 young kids did great with that. We found the breakfast to be satisfying as well.

I would go with where you can get the better deal.
