Do you usually get a small table if you request one for dinner....we are a family of 4 and would really like to eat as a family. thanks keri

Hey Keri....love your name as it is how we spell our daughter's name as well!!! Don't see that spelling very often!!!

Anyway, you certainly can request through DCL or your TA (whomever you booked with originally) to have a table of 4, but they can never guarantee it.....

What I do is when we board we dine in Parrot Cay for the buffet as opposed to the buffet up on Deck 9. For lunch that day it is open seating, but we hunt around the dining room for our table number (which will be printed on your KTTW card). Once you find your table you can see what size it is. If it is a larger table you then can go to the dining changes venue to see if you can change your table to a table of 4. When and where to make dining changes will be printed in the Navigator you get at check-in.

Thank you so much...gosh I feel like there is so much to know....how do you ever figure this all out? Thanks for the compliment on my name also....i love the spelling....hated it when I was a kid because I could never find anything with the name spelled right ( or like mine I should say). thanks for you suggestion! keri

I am so excited and can't wait for our first isney cruise September 24th....

We made a request for a table sized for 4, just for the three of us, DW, myself, and DS (9) for our Magic cruise this month after we got stuck with some really stiff tablemates on the Wonder in January. As the poster said, i was not guaranteed or confirmed in any advance materials, but that is what we got, and there are definitely tables for 4, so I think you should have a good opportunity to have your request satisfied.

And we did have a much more enjoyable cruise just being ourselves, rather than having another family with absolutely no conversation skills or personality sitting there at the table, which put a damper on things. Our top preference would have been to have fun tablemates, as we got lucky with on our second DCL cruise, but the risk was too great, so we opted to go it "alone".

Hope you get your wish and have an awesome cruise. If you used a TA, have the TA make the request for you.

what an awesome idea, to check your table first right when you board :) I was planning on going straight to PC anyways. Didn't know about the table number on your card!

My little son is a special needs child and we're definitely requesting a table for 4 in advance, and then onboard if it's not given.

Personally, I like getting to sit with other people. In fact DH and I sat with a great couple on our 09/19/04 Wonder sailing and we got along so well with them. We still keep in contact with them and we are sailing again with them 09/16/06......Give it a try...if you are not compatible with your dinner mates, I have read stories here on the DIS of people being able to change tables.

It may be they just want to sit with family--- no offense---

I too enjoyed meeting new people at dinner on my Cruise but the next one I take I will request a table to our self as well, I will be sailing with My Mother and father in law and my new husband(whenever we save the money to go) and they are all very shy people it took them a long time to feel comfortable around me... so they did say they would feel more comfortable that way.

Out of 13 DCL cruises we had 2 cruises that we had horrible tables mates....one was actually mentally disturbed (travelling alone) and we had to complain to the dining manager to deal with him because he was even making the female asst. server cry as well as terrorizing my kids...doing things like taking a roll off my DD plates, taking a bit and then putting it back...rubbing our friends back and leering, makaing inappropriate sexual comments, yelling at the staff....after about 10 minutes with this guy we realized there was a major screw loose.....next night the guy was sitting by himself at a table and happy in his own little world.

Next time we were seated at a table for 8....we are a family of 5 and were seated with a mom and 2 kids who did not want anything to do with conversation...we tried a few times and they would just grunt and turn away....they spoke english because we heard talking with each other....very bizarre. Most other times we cruised with friends and were seated together.....this past Jan. we cruised with just our family and enjoyed having a table with just us....we really bonded as a family again and enjoyed going over the events of the day our kids who are 21, 20, 16...not often do we all get to eat together at home with such varied schedules....so this was treat for all!!!

We were five cruising on the 4 day Wonder in March. We did what the previous poster suggested: we went to PC for lunch, checked for our table number, saw that it was a large table that we would share with another family. I went to the dining changes area and immediately received a table for 6 which accommodated our family wonderfully. We are not anti-social but we just really preferred being with our family at mealtimes since we scatter during the day taking in all the activities.

HI WE REQUESTED A TABLE FOR 4 ON OUR DISNEY WONDER CRUISE ALONG TIME IN ADVANCE AND WE WERE SEATED AT A TABLE FOR 8. LUCKILY THE OTHER PEOPLE WERE VERY NICE AND IT WAS PLEASANT BUT I AGAIN AM REQUESTING A TABLE FOR 4 FOR OUR NEXT CRUISE. :grouphug:

On my two cruises, I requested a table just for our family and got it both times. Once was atable for 6, my parents were with us and this past August it was a table for four.

Oh my gosh! I NEVER thought about doing this! I always went and stood in line at the reservations/dining change line to make sure we had a table just for 4! We never went to PC for the buffet when we first got on, but maybe we will do this next time!

Thanks! What a great idea!

Just to add...if for some reason you cannot find your table number....just ask one of the CM's in Parrot Cay and they can show you where it is.

Be warned, your table number can change between boarding and dinner time. The head waiter called our cabin about 4 pm and told us our table number had changed.
Disney is the first cruise where we had a table to ourselves (4 of us). It was kind of lonely, however DS and our waiter took turns doing magic tricks after dinner, so we always had a crowd around the table after dinner. Another advantage of late seating, no hurry to leave the dining room.

When I get onboard and go get my Palo ressies I just ask the guy at the dining room change table in there if the table I am assigned is for just us and they check for me. The past 2 cruises they have put us alone as I requested and I am hoping that this time they do too. Though this time I requested a certain server along with a table for just us so they might not be able to do both...though I would prefer the table for just us if they had to pick just one! Even at lunch time if we go for a sit down lunch I ask for a table with just us. I really don't like sharing my dining table with others.

I have cruised DCL 5 times and have been placed at tables with table mates just 3 times (once we were part of a reunion group of 19 and the other we were extended family of 10). Our first experiende (just DH and myself) was the best, second time was very interesting and the last was just awful (we had the opposite of the non-conversationalists). I am sure our November Reunion will just be the 20 of us and December will be another grab bag.

We requested a table for just the 2 of us when we booked. When we got onboard, we went to where they make dining changes to see if we got our request. The CM there said we were at a table for 6, but he switched us to a table for 4 and then blocked out the other 2 seats on his computer. However, when we arrived at AP for dinner, they led us to a table that already had 2 people seated, so we asked again and we were brought back to the Head Server station and were switched again to a table alone. So if you are persistant, you will definitely get the table arrangement you want :earsgirl: .
