I remember this was discussed at one point, but frankly don't remember how it was or if it was resolved. Is there is an "official" policy regarding such a thing? I came across a thread where someone was asking what the AP rate was for a site in FW in May so that they could reserve it and then take advantage of the extra magic hours. To me..it doesn't seem worth it. Especially given that they likely will be taking a site from someone who actually does want to occupy it. Seems a shame really. Especially during the month of May where I think FW is especially enjoyable and sites are likely more in demand. Surely, they are not the first to think of such a thing, and I wondered does Disney have any way of monitoring whether sites are actually occupied or not? The feeling of the poster was to quote them "you snooze, you loose". I'm thinking there is probably not much that can be said to convince someone expressing that sort of sentiment that it's not the right thing to do. They feel they paid for it..so what? Do they have a point?

I don't see how you can prohibit one from doing it. It's their right. Same as if you rent a spot, and go to the beach for the day or a spring training for a day.

I can see both sides. I really don't have a answer. But if there going to do this why don't they just get a tent site.

This subject comes up on my other camping boards. People will reserve prime sites for more nights that they are going to need just to save them. Some people reserve the site next to them just to have more space for when their visitors come over for a holiday get together.

Over Memorial Day weekend we paid for 4 nights at a local place so that we can leave late in the day on Monday. Some people may look at that as taking a site someone else could have used that night. But I don't want to have to leave at 11:00am that day....we want to stay until about 7:00 that night so we had to pay for another night.

It's like the people that make ADR's just in case they want them. Or book FW for the holidays "just in case" they want to go and figure they can cancel them later. I'm sure there are other people that wanted those reservations but couldn't get them because they were all booked up.

We may not always like these things, but that is the way things are set up and we all know how to "work the system" to get what we are looking for. From a business stand point, I'm sure the campgrounds don't care if someone is actually on the site or not as long as it is paid for.:confused3

Does it really seem worth it to book a site that is some $70.00 for an extra hour of "magic"?...That just seems extreme to me.:confused3 I totally understand booking a site for a day later..if you plan to stay the entire day, and don't want to leave by check out..that sort of thing. We've done that. Or even booking a site next to you in a resort you know is going to be crowded and you want the room. We've often made reservations for a longer period than we needed..and then when we were sure of our dates, we cut them back. However, you ARE occupying those sites at some point. In this case, the individual has no intention of ever setting foot in FW. Somehow, it just doesn't seem "right". They are securing the reservation for the sole purpose of the extra magic hour.

Auntie.........I encourage these scammers to take advantage of the Pop century........or All-stars.......

It will be cheaper too.........:thumbsup2 We are here to help......

I agree with Gatordad, as long as they pay for the site they should be able to use it how they wish. I remember someone posting pictures a while back with a site that was occupied by some industrial type fridges and cook equipment (maybe for a large group?).

Besides my Dad is paranoid enough that he would literally pack a tent up in his car every morning and re-pitch it at night, this would throw a monkey wrench in his plans :lmao:

I can't for the life of me see doing this myself, to use EMH wouldn't they have to come all the way down to the fort and check-in  Seems like a giant waste of time.

I read some travel guide where this was used as a cost savings strategy in conjunction with renting a house every night  Why not just camp and save the house rental fee, if you wanted EMH that badly.

Since so many campers bring a car, and have the ability to eat off-site, or cook at their pad, its likely not hitting them in the pocket-book too badly by having empty paid for sites with the parties staying and eating off-site.

You are obviously not aware of the sea of rental homes in the orlando area........$45 dollars anite are not uncommon in the area..........

sounds like people with more money then sense. wait till they get there and see all the people at the EMH. I am sure Disney doesn't mind they get the $70.00, no water used nor electric and no clean up. they come out way ahead.. but I think it's not right, they may have knocked some one out of a weeks trip cause they couldn't get that one day..

We do the same thing all the time!

But you'd be saving yourself $45 dollars a night! Not to mention you'd be missing out on :wizard:, and gratis Disney transportation.

I'm well aware of the rental homes, but if I wanted to stay in a house, drive somewhere early in the morning find parking and then back late at night I could just stay at home and go to work! I read those threads on rental homes all the time and the concept could not make less sense to me

these people get plush living plus free parking and all the other benefits of resort guests.........the concept is hard to beat economicly :teacher: .....you have not rode the buses much..;) .....I will drive to the parks every time..........they are 10 minutes from most villas....

If they are paying for the site, it is not up to me to decide which is the "right" way and "wrong" way to use it. That is between them and Disney, and Disney doesn't care because they are getting paid for the night.

The reasons stated above are why they don't have free dining and ticket upgrade specials at the Fort.

I think that's a good idea. Likely the rate will be near the same, and it does appear Disney doesn't have an issue with it. It's just my feeling that when you are reserving a site in FW, you are likely taking it away from someone who would enjoy not only the parks..but the resort itself. From what I've read here on the boards, there are a good many people that visit the Fort, and never set foot in the parks. Again..I frankly don't see the upside to paying either for a site or a room for the extra magic hour. I've never been impressed with it either way. All that bother for a magic hour. Please:rolleyes:

BTW does anyone have first hand knowledge of someone doing this at the Fort? A lot of the references here were for other camp grounds where someone paid for an extra day to stay 6 hours -- not exactly the same thing as paying and NEVER occupying a site. Just curious.

So what if they don't go in the parks. They can do what is within the limits of the law with that site. There are people that camp all winter and all summer, should we kick them out because they are using up "too much" of the Fort?

Au contraire, I only ride the buses. And I'm in a wheel-chair to boot so on top of the long wait, I have to put up with people glaring and giving me the finger, for getting loaded first, and it still beats driving off-site every-day... too much like a regular work-day.

I read a guide-book recently that recommended it. I'm going to say Pauline Frommer's? I'm not certain.
