How necessary are advance reservations for dining during September? We want the freedom to be spontaneous (eat when we feel like it) but don't want to miss out on the places we really want to eat at (character breakfasts, etc.).

Thanks!

Read througth some of the posts here and on the DDP board. MANY places are booked solid for parts of September.

If there are any must do's for you family, I would make those ADR's now. If you can't get in, keep trying, plans do change and cancellations are made.

good luck and let us know how you make out!

September is free dining month so I would definately make ADRs. You can always try to switch them later or cancel if you decide not to go, but there will probably be VERY few places that you can walk up and eat at.

If you want any type of table service dining at all, you probably should have booked your ADR's over a month ago. Alot of places in September are already booked. If your okay with counter service then you can be as spontaneous as you like! If not, call wdw dining and have a cm help you find some openings that you would like. You can always cancel them if you change your mind.

Good luck!

I have had my dining reservations made since April for September, and just called last week to change some of them, and couldn't get one change I wanted. Call ASAP.

They're only necessary if you want to eat there. Call today and you might luck out.

Sept is free dinning so YES. I would make reservations if there is a must eat at place for your family. Good luck!:thumbsup2

To be honest, I would book something for every meal. I have a huge list of ADR's, one for each meal of the day for every day we are in WDW. I know we won't make all of them, but it is really nice to have them just in case.

Unfortunately, spontaneity and character meals don't go together. These get booked up many months in advance, and some (like CRT) are booked solid at 180 days.

With the advent of the dining plan, many restaurants are no longer accepting walk-ups....if they're fully booked and you don't have an ADR, they'll simply turn you away.

Also, the free dining promotion is going on in Sept.; so the situation will be even worse. Call today for ADRs. Availability will be limited, but at least you'll be able to get in somewhere.

Are the restaurants in DTD any different? I was hoping I could get into those without ADRs.

Thats why some of us cant get anything then. :headache:

i booked my adr's for the first two weeks of september the beginning of may. the two i most had trouble with were coral reef and CRT (wanted dinner for both and had to settle with 8.40pm and 8.50 pm). i didnt book any charactor meals so not sure about these. in downtown disney i booked planet hollywood for dinner, where i had no problem with times, but wolfgang puck was less flexible (8.30). i would call now, you can always call and cancel some when your there.

Thanks for the heads-up on the reservations. I called yesterday afternoon and made the reservations. We got everything we wanted except we had to take a late (9pm) seating at Boma's (our son will be sleeping by that point so my DH and I will be able to enjoy a "quiet" meal), we had to switch our character meal at Akershus from breakfast to dinner (breakfast was all booked), and we had to switch one of our dinners from Whispering Canyon (no availablity) to Spoodles (tons of availability).

Interesting thing was the availability for Ohana's breakfast on Sat Sep 15 and for the Playhouse Disney breakfast at MGM on Sun Sep 16. I expected both to be booked up solid since breakfast on the other days was, but the times were wide open. So for anyone out there wanting those two places on that weekend, there is still plenty of availability for breakfast.

Also, FYI for anyone trying to make reservations for mid-sep, all the restaurants I made reservations for had plenty of availability still for lunch (1130am - 2:00pm).
