I'm looking to go back to WDW in early December 2008 (11/30 - 12/6 specifically).

I'm finding that on the WDW website a lot of the Deluxe Resorts have only the higher end rooms available...are all the standards really booked up already?? Have they just not released rates for some rooms? Or is there something going on that week that I don't know about?

TIA!

If you're looking at the Wilderness Lodge, then I'd say that, yes, the standard rooms are probably booked up. I was told that there are a very limited number of standard rooms at the WL. That's why I booked our June, 2008 vacation in June, 2007.

Agreed, I booked our upgraded room in August 2007 for our trip in September 2008. It seems that the WL is a hopping place.....

Thanks! Yep, WL was one of the resorts I was looking at! And to think...my husband is making fun of me for planning & booking 14 months out!

Guess I should start planning our 2010 trip soon, huh? :goodvibes

Not necessarily. Last year they release standards in blocks over a few months. That's how I got mine last Oct for this Dec at WL.

We considered WL for next December and as long as packages have been available on line, there has been no standard rooms at WL available, so my gut says that they just haven't been released yet.

We opted for the GF instead and booked that yesterday :santa:

I'll definitely keep checking back then!

We'll only have our kids with us for 4 of the 6 nights...so I've been thinking of splitting our stay (4 nights w/ kiddos at an All Star and 2 nights alone at a deluxe! ) But, if I can get a cheaper room at WL I think I'll go ahead and splurge on a whole week there!!

Thanks for all your input!

First off, to the OP -- I LOVE your screen name -- Marty Moose! :)

I too am starting to look into a December 2008 trip -- almost the same dates -- and am finding some resorts really booked to the hilt.

My question is, would I really want to stay at a hotel that is 100% booked to capacity? Won't the transportation and pools be packed? Maybe it would be more relaxing to stay at a place that isn't everyone's 1st choice for a certain time of the year.

I don't know -- what do others think??

p.s. If you really LOVE a particular hotel, I'm sure it's worth it....I know there are some people who wouldn't dream of staying anywhere other than their fav Disney hotel.

Not all of the rooms have been released into the booking pool yet, they will release blocks of them throughout the year. The All Stars may be one of the only one that is truly booked at that time because of the Pop Warner Football thing, that is where all those rude, rowdy, obnoxious tweens/teens stay.

We have decided to go December 13-21, so that we can miss all of that but still be gone before the Christmas week crowd comes in. We will also miss most of Mousefest, too.

themilesfamily - thanks! BTW - I have a 3yo named Ava too!! :)

PrincessSuzanne - Do you know for sure when Pop Warner is in 2008? I've heard that it is the first week in Dec...but also that it is always the week AFTER the week after Thanksgiving (so since Thanksgiving is late in 2008, it would actually be the second week).
???

Oh, and to answer your question. I definitely would not want to stay at a hotel that was completely booked! I'm hoping that the rooms just haven't been released yet, because the whole reason behind going at that time (and pulling our kids out of school) is to avoid the massive crowds during xmas week! If it turns out that the hotel really is booked to capacity, I would definitely look elsewhere!

No, the only dates I found were for 2007 and those are December 4-8. Mousefest is usually going on about the same time and for 2008 it is December 7-15, 2008. Mousefest is December 2-10, 2007. Maybe that will give you some heads up.

Suzanne princess:

I'm there the same time and could get WL Courtyard view with bunk beds. I'm actually booked though at AKL pool view bunk beds for the 28 and 29th of November (Everything else too much $$ due to Thanksgiving) and then we are on the Wonder from the Nov. 30-Dec.4. Then we wanted Poly for the last 3 nights and couldn't get anything but Concierge. So, we got AAA rate at Beach CLub for less than what we are paying for AKL!

I think rooms will open up as time goes on.

Not Suzanne but will try to answer the Pop Question:

They won't release their dates until next year, but their playoffs or whatever are Thanksgiving Weekend with the big tourney the weekend after. That would mean Pop Warner week should be 12/8 to 12/12 with some coming in early and some staying late. We decided to take our chances with that week rather than coming in to deal with the post Thanksgiving crowds (not to mention to save money on the airfare by avoiding flying Thanksgiving wekend)

I started in early August looking for a standard deluxe resort room. No luck finding what I wanted. Finally got availability for POR 12/2-12/11. Not the exact dates I am looking for because I want to avoid crowds. Like you said, thats why we go then. I am very concerned the talk of crowds with Pop Warner. Is it only at the resort, or the parks too? Plus the parade taping. How many days is that?
Just when we think we have a plan.....
:santa:

FYI...I've been trying to book Thanksgiving week for a normal room at GF since July. I called when it was room only, no packages, exactly at day 499 and no rooms. I called multiple times since then, checked online when packages were released and there have never (as far as I saw) been any regular rooms available for Thanksgiving night and the following Friday night. I was able to get garden view the sat before thru Thanksgiving, then had to pick something else. This does not seem normal to me. I don't know who could have booked the rooms if they were released. I'm guessing there is either a convention, or the rooms weren't all released yet. Same goes for Poly...I tried there as my backup, and only now I've seen just a lagoon view room for my dates...nothing for Thanksgiving. I'm going to just keep trying as this Thanksgiving and Dec approach, and hope there are some rooms they release.

I hope you all are right and that rooms haven't been released yet. I just can't see spending over 8,000 on room only - no tickets - no dining - over Thanksgiving week. :scared1: We wouldn't even have enough left for a turkey leg!

Any ideas when they start releasing rooms??:confused3

I would love to know if rooms are taken or just not released. If they are truly booked already, WDW will be very crowded next Nov& Dec:confused:

3forme-- Now I really have a taste for a turkey leg!:goodvibes

OT, Did you really have to mention those Turkey legs, now I have a craving and won't be at WDW until December 19. Could we leave the turkey leg out of the discussion :rotfl2:

I will also be going to Disney World next December. When is the best time to go so the crowds are at the lowest? From what I can tell Pop Warner and Mousefest will be going on the second week of December 7-13. So will the first week of December be better?? Will there be a lot of people staying over from the Thanksgiving weekend? I was thinking Dec 2-6, 2008 would be best.

Also I just got an email from Disney's Visa Rewards. They were offering Saratoga or Key West deluxe resorts for a great rate during the low times at the end of this year including December. Is this something they offer every year; I would love to take advantage of the same offer next.

Thanks,
Carl
