Reservation question

I purchased some points from a DVC member in March 2006. Our trip is scheduled for October 21-28 2006.

I have a signed contract and have already paid in full.

I sent an email to the seller in early June about when to expect a copy of our reservation. She replied that she already sent me a copy and it was 'very odd' that I had not received it.

Well, sometimes things happen. She said she would get another copy and send it to me (also in early June). I did not hear back from her. I emailed her last week saying that she could fax it to me instead. I have heard nothing since...

My question is: I vaguely remember reading that you cannot make a reservation unless you are within the 6 month window of your stay. Is this true? If so, then she could not have made the reservations in March, because that was over 7 months out...

If the six month rule is correct, then she may have just forgot to make the reservation, which is OK as long as she can still do it.

I guess I don't know whether everything is OK or if I need to start preparing my case for Judge Judy. We purchaed our airline tickets already, but I am holding off on buying our park tickets until this is sorted out...

thanks
Jenny

If you are a DVC member:

You make a reservation at "your" (where your points are connected with) DVC resort ELEVEN months out.

You make a reservation at any DVC resort SEVEN months out.

So, yes the renter could have made the reservation, regardless of where she owns her points.

I hope you hear back from her soon.

Is there anyway I can check with the resort to see if the reservation has been made?

subscribing.....I would like to rent points from a DVC member but this is the kind of thing my DH is afraid of. I am anxious to hear what other have to say.

Did she give you the confirmation number? If so, you can call member services to verify the reservation (407-566-3800).

Try calling DVC member services and let them know you are a guest of whoever you rented points from and see if a reservation has been made in your name..."I'm going to be a guest of [member]. I'd like to verify that there is a reservation in my name." I'm not sure if they'll give you the information without a confirmation number, but a DVC cast member told me that any of my guests could call and confirm but not make changes.

EDIT: Removed the toll free Member Services number. It is not allowed to be posted. - Chuck S

Thank you all for your responses.

I was able to call and verify that a reservation has been made. It was made in the sellers name not mine. The customer service rep said that it must be made in my name or we cannot check in.

Is this just Standard Operating Procedures that a seller does--and I can expect that she will move the reservation to my name closer to travel date? (once she is sure we are not backing out)
Or did she make a mistake?

Thanks
Jenny

The name may be easily changed by the member at any time, so that is not the issue but you mentioned that you have a contract - hopefully that contract clearly spells out when you should have received the confirmation in your name. If you have already paid in fullm you should have a printed confirmation (or a copy) from Disney in your name. As you were told by MS, you will NOT be able to check-in unless the reservation is in your name.

Hopefully, you have a phone number for the member you are working with and can contact them in that fashion. IMO, there is no excuse for not having the name changed already - especially if you have paid in full. The change can be done with a simple phone call by the member and they will receive a printed confirmation usually within a week. If it's still in their name, it's no wonder you have not yet received a copy of your reservation.

I would continue to aggressively contact the member and ask for the confirmation promised.

Good luck! :)

I agree with Doc that you should aggressively prod the member to change the name on the ressie and send you a copy of the corrected confirmation.

Your description sounds like a member who is new to renting and doesn't really know what they are doing. There was never any reason not to make the ressie in your name -- the member maintains complete control of the ressie, so what's the point of putting in her name? :confused3

We almost never hear of renters having real problems with owners (and we certainly WOULD hear!), but we do occasionally hear this kind of anxiety-causing and unnecessary junk. I'm sure you'll be fine -- just sounds like someone's a little on the sloppy side. Maybe WAY on the sloppy side.

Have a great vacation!

Thank you all so much. You have been extremely helpful.

The member did mention to me that she has only rented once before, so she is kind of new to the process.

I am relieved that there is at least a reservation for the week we plan on going.

I will call the member today to request that she change the name on the reservation and send me a copy. My gut feeling is that she believes that she is protecting herself by doing it this way... I don't think she is dishonest--but since I paid in full back in March--have tried to keep in contact with her, told her when we bought our airline tickets, she should realize that I am not dishonest either...

Thanks
Jenny

If you have paid in full, she now has complete control over her points as well as all the money and has nothing to gain by holding out with the name change. Unless your agreement included some cancellation policy with a full refund up until some date she has no financial liability any longer and even in that case, she will still control the actual reservation of her points. She could change the name back to her own up until you check-in at the resort if there were any unseen problem later- but if she already has payment in full, there is no reason for her to delay her obligation regarding this reservation.

I'm sure all will be fine. Have a great trip!

Just so you know, member services isn't open on the weekends so she can't call them till Monday. But if she doesn't change the name sometime early next week I would be a little anxious. Just keep persuing it, I'm sure it'll work out in the end. :thumbsup2

I totally agree with Doc. I rented a few times with the same member, paid him within the first week of booking always got the ressie from him with no problems.
