I have two memberships, one for Sep UY and one for Oct UY. DH and I have a reservation in 13 days under our Sep UY. My dad, who has terminal liver cancer but up until last week was doing fantastic, has taken a turn over the weekend (Stupid Cancer). We hope he gets an appt in the next day or two to provide some clarity (and that he's honest with me about said appt...), but I'm preparing myself for the fact that I may have to cancel within the 30 day window to travel out of state to be with him.

We have reservations for January and May 2025, but under our other membership. The only other time I had to cancel within this window, I had another upcoming reservation in the same membership and I was able to modify online once I hit 60 days out to use the points in holding. I assume I can't do that this time since the holding points will be in the other membership, correct?

Is my best bet to hope there is availability for a 2-bedroom in January once I hit 60 days out so I can secure a new reservation with the holding points and then cancel the original reservation booked with my Oct UY membership? Are there any other options for me?

Of course, a few weeks ago I switched our upcoming reservation from SSR to Boardwalk, which used a lot more points that I may now not be able to use. (Again, Stupid Cancer).

Thanks for any advice!

I am still fairly new to all of this but I would call Member Services and explain the situation. It may not matter, but it won’t hurt. While it was for an entirely different reason (and only for one night), they did help me earlier in the summer and narrowly escaped having points in holding - worth a call.

Thank you! Once I hear from my dad, I do plan to call, and I'll say I've had absolutely nothing but great service from Member Services. But, I know the rules and won't expect them to do anything special for me so I need to prepare my brain for that outcome, lol!

Sending you hugs!

I had to cancel less than a week out in 2022. I called and said I need to cancel due to a family emergency (mother had a heart attack and bypass surgery and came home the day before I was supposed to leave - my dad needed my help with her). Fully expected my points to go into holding, but the cast member put me on hold and said let me call and see if I can get the holding on those points removed. And she did. Put all the points back in regular status and even un-borrowed the 8 I had used on the reservation. To say, it was a huge weight off my shoulders in a seriously stressful time would be an understatement. I hope MS can help you too.

Oh, I'm sorry you had to go through that and hope it all resolved well with your mother! Thank you for the data point.

A few years ago, I had to cancel three days before. Points were returned. Medical issue with DH. He was cleared to go, few days later took a big step back.

Sorry to hear his condition was not a straight line improvement! Medical issues are so difficult, for so many reasons.

Sending caring thoughts for your dad and your whole family.....
I also encourage you to call Member Services once you know where things are at with your dad. I have been a DVC member and a member of Disboards for a long time and I have read about many, many instances of Member Services using pixie dust to help. God bless you. Good luck.

No additional advice that hasn't already been given, but my sympathies and hope that he pulls through!!
