Reservation Confusion

I noticed that 12/14 AND 12/15 is not available for a particular resort. This has been the same for other dates in December 2015 (The CURRENT day and the NEXT day will not be available). The first day of my intended reservation is 12/19. If the same pattern of unavailability continues, there is no way I’ll get the reservation I want.

I understand why the CURRENT day could be unavailable, but not the NEXT day. Can anyone explain what is happening? Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the dates that I want?

I would assume it is caused just by the general phenomenon that the further out you go, the more availability there will be because fewer people have had the opportunity to book those dates. Similar to how I can book a meal at BOG on my 10th vacation day but there's no availability all the days preceding it.

December is very popular.

It's interesting that it's ONLY the current day and the one next day. The booking window allows reservations that BEGIN on the 11th/7th month, so you'd think it would be the whole week.

You could book for the dates that are available and then go on standby for the others, if you're willing to risk standby. Since it's so far out, that might be a safe choice.

That’s the problem. Today, if I wanted to make a one week reservation at the 11th month window it would start on 12/14/15. 12/14 and 12/15 is not available 12/16 – 12/21 are available. I can’t make a reservation for the available part (12/16 – 12/21) because it’s PAST the 11th month window. My only option is to waitlist the reservation.

Something just seems odd.

Remember that people could already be booked into those days, if they booked a few days ago, for instance, on the 12th, people could have booked the 12th to the 17th. There could also be people already walking reservations up to Christmas?

I wish I saw Chuck’s post before I called Member Services for clarification. It’s “Duh” on me, lol. If someone booked yesterday (12/13) at the 11th month window, they can book for 7 nights 12/13 – 12/20. That’s why 12/15 can already be unavailable. I just need to waitlist what I can, then when the waitlist comes through modify it as needed.

Thanks everyone…! :goodvibes

According to MS, walking reservations in December has become very popular.

I expect that it will get even tougher as members learn the ins and outs of the system.

Makes buying a fixed week something to consider.

That will happen with popular room types, in particular. January of 2013, I was trying to book a 2 BR value room at AKV for the first week of December. Every single day of the week I wanted, as soon as booking time opened, the first day going forward was always unavailable, and the next 6 days were available. Happened every single day. I gave up, and booked a 2 BR Savannah view. Plenty of availability with that. I assumed it was people walking a reservation. We have a Dec. UY, and walking a reservation for the first week of December (with our limited points) is impossible. Lesson learned...aim for a room category where there are lots of rooms.

Wow, I've been a DVC member for quite a while and this is the first I am learning of walking a reservation! Learn something new every day. Seems a little shady though doesn't it, as it blocks those people who simply want to call and book the week that they actually want. Didn't DVC just enable the 11/7 months PLUS 7 day mark just a couple of years ago?

You might have a chance. 12/14 is the last night of adventure season. Point values go up to choice season 12/15 to 12/23, then it moves up to premier season.

Do not give up! Go on a waitlist. This happened to me last year or standard view studio at VGF! Waitist came through in a few days. :)
