Resale vs. Direct from Disney

My husband and I have been thinking of becoming DVC members for years. Between vacations and runDisney events, we average 3-5 trips a year, so buying would save us money, but we always held off because we didn't want to finance it. We are finally at the point where we have enough saved to pay cash, and are tinkering with the idea of looking at the resale market rather than buying direct from Disney since we'd get more for our money.

Are there any pros/cons to buying one over the other that I'm missing?

Just scan through the purchase threads, your question is asked a few times each week.

Thanks, being new to this forum I couldn't figure out where the search function was-- and now that I see it (and how obvious it is), it's much easier to figure out. Sorry about that!

A direct purchase will get you immediate opportunity to make reservations - even the same day as your deposit is made. You will also be able to use your points for the non-DVC options like the Disney Collection (non-DVC resorts, Disney Cruise), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection.

Resale purchase will not allow you any of those, but will allow you to save a considerable amount of $$$$ depending on the resort you want to purchase. There are few VGF resales atr this time, so if that is your choice a direct purchase may be best - otherwise you can save money with a resale purchase at any other resort.

I would suggest looking at the ROFR thread on this board for some guidance regarding current resale pricing that has passed Disney's review.

Good luck with your decision. :)

You can scan down the page or search, scanning will show you the most recent threads and you won't have to look very far. No reason to be sorry, we all entered the world of the DIS and DVC as newbies, the DIS is a great place to learn.

Good luck and have fun.
